In response to the complaint dated 10-23-15, please review the following information. My company completed an aluminum patio awning in September The awning is a commonly used product made of aluminum panels with a perimeter trim, front gutter, and support posts, and is referred to as
a "pan roof"We received a service request in June to address a leak in the awningUpon observation by my Service Manager it was discovered that the patio roof had a significant accumulation of leaves thus restricting drainage into the gutter and downspout, and causing water to back upI have attached a photo taken by my employee showing the accumulation.
When asked about a future remedy, my Manager mentioned a secondary cap offered by the manufacturer as an optional feature, called "protector pans" that cover the pans and can prevent some debris accumulation in the pansThis option is seldom used, and upon reviewing the photos this AM, it would not have prevented the debris obstruction in the gutterI would not recommend the installation of the protector pans, as the gutter is not covered by this optional feature and still would require periodic cleaningThe original installation was complete and nothing was omitted from the original order.
Not unlike the roof or gutters on a home, the awning gutter should be examined and cleaned a few times per year to perform properly.

Since there seems to be no way to respond to Greenville Awning's reply online and since your office appears to be closed at this time, I am sending this email. What I have to say is…. "No one told me that the awnings gutters would have to be cleaned. If I had known that, I would have looked elsewhere for an awning. I don’t have time to clean out awning gutters, my mother is in a nursing home and I have to check on her everyday. And I can't afford to have to pay someone to clean ouot the gutters on a regular basis - I could barely afford to pay for the awning."
