Bill Clark Homes of Raleigh Reviews (4)

I purchased a new Bill Clark home in Vass NC. Within a month the roof leaked and caused interior paint damage. This occurred in Sept of 2017. Bill Clark sent a roof contractor to my property and they fixed the roof. The roofing contractor broke a piece of the hardy plank siding during the repair. It is 7 months later and I have not been able to get Bill Clark Homes to repair the interior damage along with the other warranty items I have submitted numerous times.
If you are contemplating purchasing a Bill Clark built home I would be very wary. The company is very present and attentive during the initial process. My experience has proved that once the house is sold, Bill Clark Homes execute a vanishing act and they do not back up their product. As a active duty soldier I naively thought that a company who has the luck to have a business in this great country would treat those who serve them faithfully better. I was wrong.

Defective master bath tub. Builder sent contractor out to fix several times. Work not completed. Builder refuses to even look at issues. We settled on a home which was purchased from Bill Clark Homes in 8/2014. During our walk through we noticed issues with our master bath tub. The builder finally sent a contractor out to address the issues with the tub and the contractor found several cracks in the tub. The contractor came out several times and the contractor and I found additional cracks during a closer inspection. The contractor addressed the cracks but in doing so had to spray something on the tub to build it up. He was to buff it out afterwards. The contractor normally buffed the areas in which he "built up" but did not buff one rather large area in the tub. He also did not fix 2 deep scratches on the side of the tub which he said he would fix. I believe the contractor was overwhelmed with the amount of work this tub required to fix it correctly and inadvertently missed these areas. The contractor mentioned several times if he knew there was that much damage from the beginning he would have recommended they replace the tub. The contractor also felt that he was accused by [redacted] from Bill Clark homes that he was causing additional damage to the tub. When I brought this up to Bill Clark Division Manager [redacted] he stated they would not do anything else to remedy the issues that remain. I offered to schedule a time with him so that he could see the issues that remain himself and he did not respond/ignored my offer. Desired SettlementI want them to address the remaining issues my tub has. They need to buff the overspray and take fix the two areas that have scratches. Business Response Bill Clark Homes has addressed and repaired this homeowner's tub numerous times since closing at our expense and outside of any warranty coverage. Bill Clark Homes hired a factory trained and authorized contractor go out to the home several times to meet with the homeowners personally to address some scratches in the fiberglass tub (which is very common in new construction). The contractor fixed the items the homeowners pointed out, but every time they went out to complete (buff out) the repairs, the homeowner marked more items the said needed to be repaired. At the homeowners' request, the Bill Clark Homes Division Manager personally went to their home on Friday, December 5th, prior to the tub contractor's final visit, to discuss the tub and some unresolved issues they had. They showed the Division Manager exactly TWO additional spots in the tub that still needed "fixing". The Division Manager had to get within inches, and shine a flashlight on the tub, to see items the homeowner was concerned about. The Division Manager committed to having the tub contractor on site the following morning to address the TWO additional spots. When the tub contractor got there the following morning, Saturday, December 6th, to fix the TWO remaining items, he sent the Division Manager photos of the tub with over 32 areas marked with tape that the homeowners wanted addressed (not just the TWO indicated previously). The Division Manager authorized the tub contractor to go ahead and address whatever the homeowner taped to make them happy and complete all the tub repairs they requested. The tub contractor communicated to the Division Manager after leaving the residence that all the repairs were completed to home owners' satisfaction. The homeowner communicated with Bill Clark Homes via email over next 30 days with no mention of any outstanding tub issues. On January 7th, over a month after the tub repairs were completed, the homeowner identified to the Bill Clark Homes warranty department during a scheduled warranty visit that they wanted additional areas of the tub addressed. In a final attempt to satisfy the homeowner, on Friday, March 27th, the Bill Clark Homes warranty manager re-polished the additional areas of concern in the presence of the homeowner. Bill Clark Homes has made every effort possible to make this homeowner happy using factory trained and authorized contractors as well as our own warranty staff. There are no defects, warrantable or non-warrantable, with the tub in this home. Consumer Response It appears that Bill Clark left out that the additional issues found when the tub contractor came out was due cracks found throughout the tub. The authorized contractor stated this tub was in the worst condition he has ever seen with a new build. He stated that Bill Clark did not take the care needed to protect the tub during the building process. The areas pointed out that still need to be fixed was pointed out to the contractor previously and not fixed. The area that was buffed on March 27th was not completed. He buffed a portion of the area pointed out previously by me. I was NOT home during this visit. My husband works from home and was not able to stand there and watch to make sure the work was completed correctly. Through out my contact via email with Bill Clark homes it was stated that the tub was not repaired to our satisfaction. In addition issue they have not removed the oil stains left in our driveway which was pointed out and listed on our walkthrough. The excuse we keep getting is it has not been warm enough to address. Keep in mind our settlement was in August. I am pretty sure there has been ample opportunities weather wise to address this issue.

Bill Clark Homes refuses to complete french drain in yard as submitted in plans to town of Fuquay Varina. Town claims it can't do anything about it.Bill Clark was aware of standing water in our yard when they sold us the home. A plan for french drains was found at the town hall by our association. The home next to ours which just sold also has water in the yard and they refuse to buy it until they install the french drains. I want Bill Clark to install french drains in our yard as well as they are in the process of installing french drains in theirs.Desired SettlementI want Bill Clark to install french drains in our yard so we can walk in it without our boots and my grandchild could play in it.Business Response Bill Clark Homes refutes claim by buyer. Home was built in 2005. Home functioned as a model from 2005 until time of purchase by buyer in 2009. Home had fully sodded yard, mature landscaping and underground irrigation system at time of purchase. Bill Clark Homes reviewed our subdivision plans, construction drawings, and lot plans and can find no french drain plan for this lot or any other in the subdivision. Bill Clark Homes then contacted buyer to find out who buyer spoke with at town of Fuquay Varina and to convey that french drain may not be feasible on their lot due to presence of underground irrigation system. Buyer responded they did not contact town but contacted an agent of home owner's association who contacted town. Buyer unable to provide contact information for agent of home owner's association. In an effort to confirm no french drain plan exists with town of Fuquay Varina, Bill Clark Homes met with [redacted], plan reviewer in Inspections Department, and asked her to check for any french drain plan or french drain requirement for the buyer's lot. [redacted] then consulted with [redacted], staff engineer in Engineering Department, to review the subdivision plans and construction drawings. Response from town of Fuquay Varina is that no french drain plan exists for the buyer's lot or any other in the subdivision. Buyers signed and initialed standard form of contract 5/5/2009 including addendum that specifically states that swales, ditches, and drainage areas may hold water. Purchaser agrees that such condition shall not constitute a defect or warranty claim. Buyers had pre closing walk through with Bill Clark Homes on 7/7/2009 and final walk through with Bill Clark Homes on 7/9/2009. There is no mention of any issue related to standing water from either walk through. In an effort to satisfy buyers and after closing, Bill Clark Homes installed, at our expense and outside of any warranty or contractual requirements, additional trees to increase absorption of water on lot. The lot next-door to the buyers lot does have a yard drain system installed by Bill Clark Homes. That lot is lower and elevation, does not have an underground irrigation system, and was included in the contract negotiations and sales price for that home.Nothing prevents Buyers from making what ever changes they see fit to their lot (with proper permits, if required, from HOA and town of Fuquay Varina).

We were not informed of one year warranty limitations on our brand new home until after we had officially closed on the home.We purchased a brand new home from Bill Clark Homes in April of 2014. This home came with a one year warranty that we were made aware of during the purchasing process. While we thought that was an awfully short period of time for a home warranty, we were okay with it since the product they're selling is so beautiful. During the first warranty meeting with [redacted] we were informed that the warranty did not cover things that were considered cosmetic in nature. He said that they would make repairs at 3 different points in the first year of home ownership which we understood. The first two times they worked on our home they left debris including some of the supplies they used scattered around our home. We were expecting to come home to a house that looked better than when we left that morning. The last time they performed work on our home was the time that nail pops were handled. [redacted] had warned us ahead of time that they would only repair the pop and put plaster over it. He said we would have to sand and repaint the areas ourselves. At the time we had no idea how many nail pops we would have to repair. It turned out there were probably close to 100, and since the time they were there, many more have surfaced. We never had this issue in our previous home. After they made the repairs to each area and packed up for the day we came home to find that much of the debris from their work that day was still scattered around our floors, etc. That weekend my husband and I spent the majority of one Saturday sanding and repainting each spot that they repaired. Even the areas that did not have nail pops but required some other sort of repair did not get painted by Bill Clark Homes. The dust that was created by the plaster sanding filled our home and every crevice of our beautiful dark floors. No matter how many times I vacuum and mop they have never been the same. There is still this white haze that remains. I do not believe that they can have their customers do these repairs themselves in good faith. It is simply no way to do business. Our home now looks like somewhat of a patchwork quilt in some light. Even though we used the paint that was provided by Bill Clark Homes, you can still see the difference in the spots we painted vs. the spots that had been painted professionally by BCH. I am so terribly saddened that my beautiful home now looks this way and I feel very strongly that BCH should do a better job of making their customers feel valued and appreciated. We should each have enough respect for (and pride in) these homes not to treat them this way. I reached out to the manager for this territory, [redacted], in early May with a written letter. I followed up with him a week later and he claimed he had not received said letter. I then decided to email him the letter as an attachment on 5/18. On 5/22 I reached out to him to see if he had had a chance to review my email. I was getting the feeling I was being ignored. He defended their "policies" and believe BCH did nothing wrong here. I have never seen said "policy" in writing nor did he share it with me after his response. When I explained that I was not happy with the response I received from him and asked who I should speak with he said "I'm not sure who you should speak with at this point. What exactly did we do wrong here?" He never once attempted to call me or rectify this situation in any way. When I reached back out on 5/22 with another response explaining yet again why I was unhappy and that others in the neighborhood also feel this way, I was ignored. He never wrote me again after 5/22 at 4:58 p.m. I am looking for a resolution to this situation asap and I would appreciate immediate attention to this matter.Desired SettlementWe would like to have our entire downstairs repainted or receive a payment for the value of painting that area so we can have it done ourselves. There are also several small areas in the stairwell and master bedroom that need attention.
