Bill Taylor Painting Reviews (1)

Review: Bill Taylor painted the interior of my house, but made sloppy lines around the windows that put paint on the vinyl window. We talked to him several times about this issue. We told him what we thought was a reasonable minimum to fix the issue: Paint removed from windows downstairs, but he could just straighten the lines upstairs as those Windows had paint on them from a previous owner. This was unacceptable to him. He stated that he could not remove the paint from any of the vinyl windows, the best he could do was straighten the lines. We said that that would be OK for upstairs but stayed firm that he had to fix the paint better than that downstairs where there was no previous errors. During a previous conversation, he had said that it seemed like the only solution was "to give money back" but when we brought that up on his final visit he said he had done too much for that now. But we disagreed as he had only done touch up that he was obligated to do. At that point he said "I'm done" and left.Desired Settlement: I would like the job finished, but he is unwilling to do the work needed to do the job how we asked. So a partial refund is the only way to resolve this, so we can hire someone who will finish the job properly.

Response:

The upstairs vinyl windows had paint on them from the previous paint job (not painted by me or my company - it was done sometime in the past). We, as painters, try to cover this with the new color to make it look presentable. When the downstairs windows were installed originally, they caulked them on the inside as well as the outside. There was caulking above the white paint line. Over the years since then, dust had built up on the caulking above the painted line. This does not clean off. I then cut in the new color over the dirty caulking to make it look more presentable and much more aesthetically pleasing. Some of the lines were not perfectly straight. I told Mrs. [redacted] I would, and did, cut in the ones I could fix. She was not happy with this and said she wanted the paint on the windows removed. VINYL WINDOWS ARE TOO SOFT TO SCRAPE OFF PAINT OR AGED CAULKING. I told her that I had done all I could do for the vinyl windows in the condition they were in, when we started. I said I was sorry she still felt the job wasn't done to her liking - we did the best we could cleaning up the botched job the previous painters had messed up. Again, vinyl windows are too soft to scrape aged paint or caulking. This is an issue the clients should have taken up with the previous painters when it occurred.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: the painter did not cut in the paint lines as he indicated as he stormed off of the job before any fixing of their botched job could be completed. He is making excuses for his poor prep work. The lines he left, which we didn't want done the way he left them, are sloppy and a mess. He decided to add paint to vinyl windows that had no paint before and afterwards said there was no way to fix it. I do not expect that. He put paint on my windows and I didn't want that. He must fix it or compensate.
