Sold me a defective part, would not take it back, and now they ( sid) tell me it is my fault that I bought, and I will have to figure out how to sell it, makes sense?

. I dropped my car for an oil change and minor electrical problems. They made me sign the usual estimate sheet before I left. Dan, the service manager had told me that it could take several hours, but that they could not start working on my car until later in the afternoon because they had 4-5 cars ahead of mine. At 3:30pm I spoke to him again and he told me that they were about done with the oil change. (They close at 5:30pm btw). At 4:25 he emailed me the estimate. Over $1,000! I called him back and said that I it was outrageous, at least twice what I was expecting. He told me: "I will see what what I can do". I trusted him (big mistake). He called me back at 9:30am the next morning to tell me it was just a relay and a switch to change. Nothing much. Parts would cost $30 and he needed half an hour to install it. I agreed. I was all happy and expecting that I would pay for the oil change ($200 which is not cheap already!) + one hour of work the day before (between 4:25pm and 5:30pm) + half an hour in the morning. To my surprise when I picked up my car they had billed me for 6 hours and 45 minutes of work! Of course they could not have worked 6 hours yesterday between 4:25pm and 5:30pm (one hour at most). Since I had only objected verbally over the phone and not in writing they knew they could squeeze me for the full amount of the estimate they had send me at 4:25pm the day before. Despite my verbal objections over the phone, they even added the extra half hour for this morning on top of the estimate! Bottom line $1,134 for an oil change a relay and a switch!!! I had not choice but paying, since in Ontario the law allows mechanics to keep vehicles until payment has been made ... *** ...

You came with your 1994 *** Convertible for:
1. Lube oil and Filter
2. Electrical problem with dash lights and side market lights not
working
3. Convertible top not functioning properly
Electrical problems take time to check into and diagnose. You were given an estimate for the electrical diagnostic and repair. The estimate was approved by you and signed to go ahead with the work. You were charged $1,003.75 + tax accordingly for the repairs completed. You called the police as you did not want to pay the bill. You were told by the police that you have to pay the bill. Our hourly rate is 30% cheaper than the main dealers.

1) Electrical problems sometimes take time indeed, but any competent mechanic will first check the relays and switches. That only takes 10-15 minutes ... and that is all he replaced (1 relay and 1 switch).
2) I spoke to your service manager at 3:30pm and he told me they had just about done with the oil change. Then he emailed me the estimate at 4:25pm ... and your shop closes at 5:30pm!
3) Your service manager told me that he could not start working on my car until later in the afternoon because there were 5 cars ahead of mine. If you mechanic spent over 6 hours on my car it means that he spent about 2 hours to service the other 5 vehicles (one of them which needed wheel bearings to be replaced). Really? 5 cars in 2 hours, including replacing wheel bearings on one of them?
4) Your hourly rate is perhaps 30% less than the main dealers, but if you spent 2 hours on a car and bill for 6 ... you are still far more expensive.
The bottom line is that between 3:30 and 5:30 with 6 cars in the shop for one mechanic it is simply impossible to have spent over 6 hours on my car. You know it as well as I do. The police told me to pay (because there is a law in Ontario that allows mechanics to refuse to release vehicles until payment has been made). The police added that I could then go to Small Claims Court and post review on line, which is what I have done.

A close friend recommended Birkshire Auto because I needed servicing on my 2000 [redacted], and this was way back in 2002. Birkshire gave me a far better price than the [redacted] dealer, and explained that some of the work the dealer quoted did not need to be done yet. This higher level of integrity continued to be my experience throughout the next 12 years of servicing and purchases I made with Birkshire.

Since 2005, we have purchased 5 vehicles from Birkshire and we have been so happy with everything from the deals we got on the purchase to the excellent service. We first bought a 2001 [redacted] for a good price that my wife wrote off in a serious accident, not her fault, and she was unharmed due to the solid contstruction of the [redacted]. To replace this [redacted] in 2008, Sam went to auto auctions looking for our ideal vehicle and found it six weeks later... a 2004 [redacted] with low mileage in mint condition for a great price, which, over the years, turned out to be a great deal.

In 2011, I needed a company car for my key sales person to work trades shows and make sales calls, and so I bought a mint 2008 [redacted] with low mileage which has needed very little maintenance. In 2012, I bought my daughter a 2001 [redacted] with 110.000 km in great condition, and she loves the soft ride and safety for her children of this solid car. This [redacted] has required continuous maintenance, which Sam told me it would, thus the low purchase price we originally paid.

Lastly, in autumn 2012, we bought a 2009 [redacted] for my wife, which is the best vehicle we have ever owned, for luxury and performance, as well as low maintenance. Birkshire has serviced all these vehicles, always explaining exactly what was needed and why. My experience is honesty and high integrity all along, and that's why we keep coming back. After more than a decade of really good experiences, I have good grounds to highly recommend Birkshire Automobiles.

Birkshire Automobiles did an outstanding job restoring my vintage ***. Top notch service from owners Jas and Sam - personal and friendly....you become part of their family - exceptional experience.
