Bishops Square Reviews (%countItem)

My son rented an 3 bedroom apartment from Bishop's Square as a college student with 2 other students, each paying $595 per month for rent. My husband and I were the guarantors for the lease. When he moved in, the apartment was run down and not what was advertised on the website. There were things that needed to be repaired before he moved in, but they were not. His refrigerator was broken when he moved in and it took 2 weeks for the apartment to replace it. His air vent was so dirty, my husband had to take the cover off and clean it because there was no way any air was getting through all of the dirt and dust on the vent. When he moved out, he was asked to clean in a specific manner. He did not thoroughly clean the way it stated, so each tenant received a bill for cleaning. My son's portion for cleaning just the downstairs of the apartment was $122.68. Each roommate was charged that amount for the downstairs cleaning, which equals $368.04. He was also charged for the stair banister which was obviously chewed up by a dog before he moved in (one of the items that needed to be replaced before he moved in). I refused to pay for the banister, so it was quickly taken off of the charges. He was also charged $75 to deep clean his bedroom. I requested to see pictures of the apartment as it was left. The only issue was that the toilet was not cleaned thoroughly. The bathtub had a rust stain that was there when he moved in. The bathtub never drained properly and was never fixed. There was a trash bag left in a bedroom and we were charged $25. There was a trash bag left downstairs in the living area and we were also charged $25. The letter we received with the bill did not have a phone number that we could call to dispute the charges. I called the apartment complex and was told I had to email the person who deals with the accounts. I then started emailing her back and forth asking questions. I requested a copy of the invoice from the cleaning company that charged $368 to clean the tiny downstairs area of the apartment and charged each roommate $75 to clean the bedrooms. I was told that those could not be released. Instead, I was sent the pictures of the rooms again. I requested a copy of all work orders that were placed for that apartment during the year that my son lived there. I got no response. I finally received the name of a manager that I could email. I sent him a detailed email asking for assistance in understanding the exorbitant charges from the apartment complex. I even told him I would be contacting the Revdex.com if I did not hear from him. I am being forced to pay these charges with no explanation or they will send it to a collection agency. I feel that this apartment complex is taking advantage of students. The apartment was not in disarray, nor were there any damages that would warrant charges so high. My son had the lowest bill out of the 3 roommates. One of his roommates got a bill for over $900! None of the pictures that I saw showed damage that would add up to that amount. Anything that was broken or needed repair as a result of my son, I gladly paid. I vehemently disagree with the cleaning charges and I would like help in resolving this issue.

Bishops Square Response • Jan 08, 2019

We are receipt of the complaint against Bishops Square on January 2 2019. Upon further investigation into the matter, it was determined that all of the pictures related to the move out charges for *** son, were sent to her on October 7th. On January 2, 2019, a copy of the invoice from the cleaning vendor was emailed over to *** as requested to show her that the cleaning company did in fact charge us a heavy clean for cleaning her son’s unit here at Bishops Square after he moved out. After *** received a copy of the invoice from the cleaning company, she was ok with the cleaning charged. We have reached a settlement agreement with *** to close out her son’s account here at Bishops Square.
