I was in a panic. The [redacted] had hacked my [redacted] computer, installed ransomware and was requiring me to buy [redacted] for $500, remit them to [redacted] and hope they send me the description key to decrypt 10 years of tax files for over 300 tax clients. [redacted] walked me through the process over a 5 day period and ultimately all those tax files were decrypted and usable as needed for future years. No clients ended up at risk BUT: If I had it to do over again, I would be penny wise, not pound foolish and contract with [redacted] to provide the computer security I had neglected thinking that a double layer of over-the-counter antivirus/malware software was sufficient.
