In completing a computer repair on my mother's laptop they downgraded the operating system from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 Home. They installed the Windows 10 Home from a Image backup that they had created in 2015.

They installed software that allowed them to remotely monitor the computer.

They installed Norton by buying the software key at ***, *** or other retailer (they are not an authorized retailer). Norton licenses allow more than one computer (typically 5 or 10) to use the same license key. In discussions with Norton BL Software had 49 license keys they had bought registered under their account. When the software was registered on my mother's computer it was registered in BL Software's name not my mother's name - even though she was the rightful owner.

Desired Outcome

Refund I would like my mother to be refunded.

first off it would have been beneficial if this person had seen fit to contact us so we could have discussed the procedures that were carried out to repair his mothers Laptop.
1) the laptop was brought in not posting when his Mother was asked as to what Windows she had she did not know when she contacted her son he replied it was Windows 10 but not sure what one ( Pro or HP )
2) A clean install of windows was carried out and the Bios selected the level of Windows that gets installed as the registration license is embedded in the Bios through the UEFI ( Unified Extensible Firmware Interface ) this is out of our hands as the License is already there.
3) We installed Norton From A License we owned as his Mother was asked if she already had one she gave my Tech the Go Ahead to Install from one of my Licenses as she did not want to purchase a 5 or 10 user for the use of 1 license ( we do not purchase from *** we use a software distributor in Ontario.
Further how dare you accuse us of installing monitoring software in the 30 years we have been in business we have never used or own software of that nature we use team viewer only upon request on customers PC's.
Second it takes approximately between 4-6 Hours to fully install & setup windows correctly on a PC not to mention how much diagnosis time was used to try and recover her Laptop in the first place all that was charged to her was 1.5 Hours Plus the cost of Norton ( this includes the installation & upgrading that is required to have it right up to date)
We have prided ourselves in being as fair as possible to our customers if this individual had a problem with what was carried out it would have been nice to have discussed this with him.

The laptaop was purchased well in advance of the release of windows 10 (July 2015) and originally came with Windows 7 installed.

I converted the machine to Windows 1o under the free upgrade program.

The Bios would not have a registration license in it for Windows 10. When I reinstalled Windows 10 PRO just prior to my complaint it did not select any Operating System automatically.

I talked with Norton about the antivirus installation. They advised me that under the BL Software name (credit Card) there was a number of licenses registered and that they had been bought at various retail outlets (apparently they track wehre). Norton advised me during my conversation that they would investigate.

Ask BL what they were charging for the Norton Software?

I have saved the hard drive minus the two pieces of suspicious software as evidence - there are directories on the drive that clearly indicate it was an install from someone elses computer.

once again if this individual would like to discuss this with us pickup the phone or come into our office and we will discuss this with him otherwise we are done attempting to explain ourselves ***
We had asked his Mother in the beginning what version of Windows 10 she had and she had to contact her son as she was not sure at that time he did not know and told her so. secondly for everyone's info we buy multiple licenses of Norton for our senior citizen and business clients who do not wish to have their credit card info on line or to be constantly emailed by a company to upgrade or to purchase there product and to have their account info available to anyone who calls asking for it.
