When this man first came to my house it was to clean Grandfather clocks I paid him $I then gave him a Mantel clock to fix because it would not stay running He said it probably just needs cleaning but would have to take it apart at his home to do it On of the Grandfather Clocks worked for three weeks and then stopped a few times Also it would chime the hour on the quarter ofThat was what was wrong in the first placeI called him and informed him the clock had stopped and the chime was not right He said he would look at it when he returned the Mantel clock I kept calling him to find out when he was going to return the Mantel clock He told me he had it running for a week and it was running fine! Still weeks went by and I kept calling only to be told once that he does not return calls when he has nothing to say! Then I am informed that he needs to replace a partI agreed Weeks again go by and still no ans Finally, he answered the phone and says he has replaced two parts and the clock is running fine In fact he says that the clock is keeping his wife up at night! He has the clock approx months and does not seem to care that the one dining room clock it not right To my surprise I get a call that he wants to return the clock and tells me it is running fine! If he knows what he is doingthen why replace two parts if the clock is years old and cannot be fixed! What good is a clock that will not run?? When he returned the Mantel clock he says, he forgot his tools to fix the Grandfather clock!..However, he manages to move the hands and make adjustment so the clock is running fine now He leaves the Mantel clock with me and I wrote him a ck for $made out to his business The next morning I place the clock onto a dresser and start the clock....It would not run for more than minutesEverything that was wrong with the clock was the same when he returned except for two things The hands were loose and would not go around He did tightened themAfter he leaves I notice the middle key area where you wind the clock is frozen and cannot be wound! How is a clock running in his home under these conditions?? I was about to call him when the phones rings that he wants to return the ck because he does not have a business account and cannot cash the ckThis is the real reason he returned otherwise he would never have returned to look at the clock When he arrives he asks me for playing cards to level the clock Since I owned this clock for forty years I know it has to be level! He also says maybe the clock will need more parts replaced! I in good faith gave him another ck and hope for the best that the clock is fixedI phoned him the next day and told him the clock would not run My abuse as he calls it is when I told him I was struggling to believe in him and felt he lied to me and was not honest with me from the beginning How is it that he kept the clock for six months and replaces two parts and says it runs fine in his home but will not run in my home! Seems silly and I think what is obvious to anyone is this man took advantage of me or does not know what to do to fix the Mantel clock or he simply wants more money! I feel since the clock will not stay running at all now....I can not wind the middle key areaI deserve a refund so I can take the clock to someone else for repairI feel strongly the clock can be repaired There are hundreds of the same clock on Ebay for sale working fine! The last thing he said to me when I last called him was and I quote, " I will not give you a guarantee for this clock and further you did not ask me for a guarantee!" I trusted him that he would do the right thing Thank you

Mrs. [redacted] has failed to understand the nature of a hundred year old clock. I picked up her mantle clock, after servicing two grandfather clocks that continue to run, I brought the clock back to the shop for cleaning, lubrication and adjustment. A great deal of time was spent on adjusting the clock...

to get it to run, time that she was never charged for. When I had the clock running it became apparent that the chime spring was worn out and needed to be replaced. A spring was ordered and modified for this clock and a worn hook in the spring barrel had to be made for the spring to work. The clock ran successfully for a week in the shop and the chimes responded at their normal speed. The clock was returned to her with instructions that the clock had to be on a level surface and might require shims with trial and error to find the right spot for the clock to keep running. She did not follow my directions so I made a return trip to her house to level the clock. After 10 or 15 minutes of the clock continuing to run I left but informed her that she might have to continue to experiment with the shims if the clock would not continue to run. She called today to tell me the clock was not running and expected that it would be guaranteed to run reliably. The time spring may be worn or the clock may need a complete overhaul (a $300.00 expense). I offered to come back to her house to look at the clock again and possibly bring it back to the shop for further evaluation. She did not accept my offer and became abusive on the phone. I do everything in a workman like manner for everything done to the clock and have not charged her unfairly.

When this man first came to my house it was to clean 2 Grandfather clocks.  I paid him $200.00. I then gave him a Mantel clock to fix because it would not stay running.  He said it probably just needs cleaning but would have to take it apart at his home to do it.  On of the Grandfather Clocks worked for three weeks and then stopped a few times.  Also it would chime the hour on the quarter of. That was what was wrong in the first place. I called him and informed him the clock had stopped and the chime was not right.  He said he would look at it when he returned the Mantel clock.  I kept calling him to find out when he was going to return the Mantel clock.  He told me he had it running for a week and it was running fine!  Still weeks went by and I kept calling only to be told once that he does not return calls when he has nothing to say! When he returned the Mantel clock he says, he forgot his tools to fix the Grandfather clock!..However, he manages to move the hands and make adjustment so the clock is running fine now.  He leaves the Mantel clock with me and I wrote him a ck for $130.00 made out to his business.  The next morning I place the clock onto a dresser and start the clock....It would not run for more than 10 minutes. Everything that was wrong with the clock was the same when he returned except for two things.  The hands were loose and would not go around.  He did tightened them. After he leaves I notice the middle key area where you wind the clock is frozen and cannot be wound! How is a clock running in his home under these conditions??
