June 15,To Whom it may concern,This letter is written in response to your letter dated 06/01/(ID ***) In regards to a complaint registered by an individual against our companyI will begin by saying we take pride in our workmanship and customer service and do not take a complaint
like this lightlyI will also say that in the years of doing business at this location, this is the first complaint of this nature that we have ever receivedWe have had a number of customers that have certainly proved more challenging; this particular customer being one of themIn cases like this we try to resolve the issue(s) to the best of our ability.This customer came to us in March of seeking our services in building a seasonal cabin for him on some wooded property he ownedWe gave him some pricing and it soon became clear that this was a customer that wasn't going to be satisfied unless he got more for lessHe attempted to get us to lower our pricing and include more options at the same time (the shutters he mentioned was one of the items).The customer had an excavator friend take care of doing all the excavation for the projectOnce the excavation for the basement and retaining walls was complete, Black Creek poured footers and installed the block foundation and retaining wallsOur mason has installed hundreds of block basements and hundreds of feet of retaining walls and is very meticulous with his work, and always makes sure it is done rightAs you may or may not know, the drainage and backfill around a retaining wall and foundation are extremely importantDrain lines must be installed to carry moisture away from the block and clean, crushed, stone should be used to backfill to minimize the "pushing" force which can lead to the block walls cracking and leaningAgain, the customer was responsible for the excavation portion of the job and I do not remember if drains and crushed gravel were installed or not.As far as the shutters are concerned, throughout the course of the project it became clear that we would be unable to provide the kind of shutters he was looking for with the results he wantedWe did tell him just that and credited him what we charged him in the first place.At the end of the project he had some issues that were unsatisfactory to him, which we returned and repairedAfter that, he sent us a letter and included final payment, withholding a portion of the final payment, saying he was not satisfied with the projectContrary to his assertion, that was never resolved and his balance due continues to accrue finance chargesAs a company, we have so few of these instances, that we have not sent this to collectionsIf we get paid, great; if not, it is a lesson learnedCertainly, a customer that chooses to do business this way forfeits any warran^ ty repairs in the futureObviously, this situation falls in that categoryIf you have further questions for me, I would be more than happy to discuss them with youThanks and good day.Regards, Kurtis M
