Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:  I feel that this company should also refund me the money I had to spend taking out the bad transmission and replacing it with the 2nd transmission for a total of $478.62.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Mr. [redacted] brought his truck in for an engine replacement on April 21, 2014. We replaced the engine and had him ready to go May 2014. We...

require that a deposit of half is placed. his total balance due was $1672.92. We allowed him to leave $500 as a deposit. When the truck was finished we tried several times to contact him. We finally did in August. He said he would be in. He never did. Further attempts were futile. He finally responded in November when we sent him a notice that his truck was going to be processed as an abandoned vehicle. He came in on December 21 and left another $200 on his bill leaving a balance of $972.92.
During this time we processed abandoned vehicles off of our tow lot. One of the vehicles processed was a red dodge pickup like Mr. [redacted]'. Mr. [redacted]' truck was the one actually processed in error. When the mistake was realized we spoke with him and the Illinois Secretary of State to try and reverse the error. Nothing could be done at that point. I told him the options:
1. Complete refund of all moneys paid in plus extra for the value of his vehicle's condition when he brought it in
2. Replace his truck with another like his
3. Send his truck to the Sec of State and have his truck inspected for a corrected title

He opted for a combination of 2 and 3 for which ever one could happen first. I found him a 2001 Ford F150 4x4 He said no he didn't like Ford. We moved forward on the SOS inspection. Ultimately his truck would not pass the inspection with out a LARGE amount of work to be done so as to even pass * safety inspection which had nothing to do with our work on the vehicle but the overall condition: broken back glass, parking lights broke, horn issues, safety issues. About this time I came across a 1999 Dodge extended cab that was tremendously better condition than his older truck and had a much higher resale value. The transmission was bad so we put another in it. transferred his items from his truck over such as better tires, ladder racks and grill. Mr. [redacted] seemed to be very happy with this. When it came time to transfer the title over I even split the title fees for him. When I told him he still owed the original balance due of $972.92 he refused and told me I owed it to him for I had a "multi million dollar business". I told him that both he and I were both guilty on this issue. He should not have left his truck here seven months with no contact and we should have not had a mix up with abandoned vehicle processing. Us both being responsible for this issue had been a reoccurring part of the conversation all along and he has agreed up until the time to finish paying.
In the end he would be leaving in a vehicle that is two years newer, much, much better condition and has a much higher resale value than what he started out with. He left his bill and vehicle unattended for several months. I have gone far and above to try to accommodate him and the error which never would have occurred if he would have been responsible and picked it up with in a reasonable time or even contacted us in a reasonable time or even made payments versus doing nothing. For the balance due, Mr. [redacted] drives out in a better position than he came in. In the end I have paid out more to correct this error and do right by Mr. [redacted] than his original bill was.
Photos of both vehicles are available to show what he started with and what he can leave with. All I ask is to finish paying the bill which should have been done in May 2014 when his vehicle was finished.
