Hi.  You were told this complaint would be handled this week.  You were called today, Friday, 11/10 and it was handled.  Dey

He said warrenty started when I received it. And I have picture tge day I got it. Connected the motor to ever thing jan 30. picture of that. Motor lasted 75 hours it died July 6. I sent message about it to them on 7th that stated my Motor broke yesterday. I have paper work showing I never abused the motor or maxed it out. It died within a year. I deserve a full warrenty. He is illegally selling on ebay. He makes the deal not on ebay so he doesn't pay the fee. I can court sepena to get ebay messages where we talked about the warrenty. That was the only reason I wanted it and have messages talkin about the extended year plan. And how he would honor his work. They didn't respond to messages. I had to send multiple messages then had to call to get a response with rude phone call. Then bullied into a 1 time fee for $1700 he will pay 1 way shipping. Only if I took it by end of business. This is wrong. I paid premium 10k for a motor that has a expectancy life of 5 years. It Didn't last 6 months. This motor was broke in correct and papers will state. It was a bad motor and I should get what I paid for. A premium rebuilt motor.

[redacted] didn't contact us as to his motor problem until after his one year warranty was over. He was given the option to purchase an additional 4 year warranty when he originally purchased his powerhead, which he declined. That said, we offered to pay for shipping both ways and repair it for $1750. The...

normal cost to rebuild his motor is $4250. We feel we are being more than fair, given we haven't seen the motor to see exactly why it failed. He declined our offer.Sincerely,Dawn O[redacted]Assistant Manager for Blackbird Industries

Review: Bought a 150hp Mercury outboard engine. Never received the controls. The fuel pressure gauge was broken and the wires to the starter were bare. When I contacted the seller, I was basically told that my mechanics don't know what they are doing. Seller claims their mechanics are the best . Would not offer any relief or operable parts. I would never, ever do business with this company again. Please save others the aggravation and out of pocket expenses that I have suffered through their false promises. I have paid over $1000 in an attempt to get the engine running that this company shipped to me.Desired Settlement: The cost of the mechanical labor required to get the engine running and the cost of all parts that were never received or that had to be replaced because they were inoperative.

Response:

Mr. [redacted] purchased a motor from us in September of last year and took delivery of it early December. He at no time said anything to me about controls or fuel pressure gauge or starter wires being bare until eight months later now that it is the end of the summer! We did refund him $500 and sent various (unnecessary), parts earlier to try to make him happy, but he continues to complain. As our warranty states, the motor is a USED motor that we make every effort to make like new and sometimes the customer has to take responsibility for some minor repairs. That said, he was told that electronics are only warrantied for 90 days, but if he wanted to send the supposed "bad" part back, I would send him out another one. I never said his mechanic didn't know what he was doing. Mr. [redacted] insulted our technicians by telling me they needed to go back to Mercury School. I only told him our technicians probably have way more experience than his did.........All of our motors are thoroughly inspected and run before shipping out to make sure the customer gets a good running motor. We do over 500 motors a year with few complaints so as far as I can see there is no one "suffering" only mostly very satisfied customers with good running motors at a fraction of the cost of new!

Review: I had an outboard powerhead rebuilt on 3/29/2013 which included a new engine block and came with a warranty. The motor stopped running in August when returning from a day on the water. I removed the powerhead assembly and called the company to return the powerhead to find out what happened. I recieved a call from a gentlemen there who accused me of submerging the motor. He told me that water was throughout the motor and in the carburetors. I was told the whole motor was junk now. I replied by saying that it was impossible the motor was under water seeing the boat is trailered and the whole boat would have to go under water because the powerhead sits above the transom. I asked if there was another possiblity he said no and insisted he was right and had pictures. I decided to have the powerhead returned to me and have it looked at by someone else. I recieved some parts but not the complete assembled powerhead I had sent. I called them to find out where my powerhead was and was told ,after being put on hold several times, that they will look into it. a few days later, I recieved another container with, apparently, the rest of my parts. After looking through the parts, I can confirm the second shipment contains parts that belong to me. The engine parts that I recieved indicate a failure of cylinder #3 which caused a crack in the block allowing salt water to enter the cylinder and ultimately into the internals of the motor. The other cylinders show no water intrusion assiciated with submerging a motor. additionally the carburetors show no corrosion associated with being submerged in salt water. All the exterior components (starter, coils, electronics, etc.) also do not show any signs of being under or in the presence of salt water. I believe the company is just trying to get out of honoring their warranty. There is evidence of internal damage to cylinder #3 causing the crack in the block and causing the water intrusion.Desired Settlement: I would like them to honor thier warranty policy. I want my complete assembled running powerhead with all the needed parts just like I paid to originally have done.

Response:

Mr. [redacted]'s motor was full of water Internally and in the fuel system , We do not cover engine failure due to water Ingestion Into the motor. His motor was torn apart In order for us to fix it and when he indicated he was not going to pay for the parts to fix it, we sent it back at his request* He did not pay us to put it back together and it is a moot point because if he wants someone else to fix it, it needs to be torn down.

Response:

I Do Not agree with Blackbird Industries that the motor failed from water ingestion. I have been a mechanic for almost 20 years and currently hold both Honda and ASE master technician certifications. Furthermore, I had a Mercury Master technician come and inspect the parts (see attached). The water in the motor was a RESULT of the damage incurred with cylinder # 3 which cracked the cylinder wall and allowed water to enter the cylinder. The carburetors as well as the intake reed valves were inspected and no water intrusion or blockages were found. He inspected a fuel sample and confirmed there was 2 cycle oil in the fuel as well as an operable oil injection system. The damage was confined to only the #3 cylinder. In Blackbird Industries written policy, they claim to inspect all parts and will advise you if any additional parts need repair or replacement. The motor was rebuilt and assembled by Blackbird Industries. The failure was due to a defective part or assembly. They should honor their warranty as it is written.

Response:

Regardless of what Mr. [redacted] believes or tries to declare, he is wrong about his motor. The water came in through the fuel system and not from an external source. We do honor our warranties, but this is definitely not a warranty issue. As far as helping him out with the problem, we were more than happy to do the labor at our expense which he turned down, but we are not willing to absorb the cost of the replacement parts due to his error.

Review: I had 2 boat motors (both outboards) rebuilt by this company. What was supposed to take 4-6 weeks took over 8. They did not following my instructions of paint color when painting the motor housings, and then blamed me for the wrong color choice and thereated to charge me twice. Once I got volcal they backed down and told me there wouldn't be a second paint charge. Once I took possession of the motors again, I had a local marine repair business take a second look, and the motors had been "rebuilt" completely wrong. One motor wouldn't even [redacted] from neutral to forward or reverse. They had chopped parts and welded them in such a fashion that if I had attempted to drive my boat with these motors, I would have done significant damage to the entire boat. One powerhead that was supposedly rebuilt was not. Water lines were connected in wrong locations. There were fuel leaks in both motors. One motor wouldn't even start at all once back on the boat. These guys were so difficult to deal with by the end that I can't even imagine trying to enforce my warranty, and why would I? I do not want these is touching my motors again. What cost me approximately $7,000 with this company cost me another $7,000 back here at home.Desired Settlement: I want a refund for all of the repairs I had to have made here locally, since these issues were supposed to have been taken care of when this company "rebuilt" my motors and "took a fine tooth comb" to them. This company is a waste of breath, time and money!!! Very poor customer service, VERY difficult to get ahold of, and once you do, they go crazy on you over the telephone.

It is very upsetting to hear this after we went over and above board to fix Cory's motors. He brought them to us in the back of his pick up all smashed up. First of all, we only rebuilt one motor, the other one we went over and determined it didn't need rebuilding. He was only charged for ONE rebuild. Secondly, we replaced many parts that were either missing or broken with used parts we had here and didn't charge him. He didn't like the white paint, so we repainted them again to make him happy. We do over two million dollars worth of rebuilt motors in a year with very little problems because we run them in our test tanks before shipping, thus insuring all the problems he SAYS are there is taken care of. Just because he has a marine dealer to tell him something, does not make it so. I would say that dealer made so pretty good money off of him!He has a one year warranty. If there is something wrong with the motor we rebuilt, he can send it back for us to fix as long as his dealer didn't make any unauthorized changes.

I had a terrible experience with them as well in 2016. I bought an e-tec 300 from them that they rebuilt. It blew up on my after only 9 hours. It was covered under warranty it took them the rest of the season to rebuild it again. By the time I got it back the season was over. They would not reburse me for the mechanics bill for diagnosis of blown #3 piston that requested to get a compression test done. They would not pay for dismount then remount of motor that I had done only 1 week prior of it blowing up on me. They sold me a bad motor then wouldn't make it right. I bought it with a bad oils pump and cylinder #1 that was not firing then a cylinder #3 that went bad on its second trip out.

The owners son that I was forced to deal with was very rude. He had his money and couldn't care less about his customers. I spent over 10k on a very expensive anchor, that's all it was good for in my opinion. I felt so violated from BLACKBIRD industries that I was forced to sell my boat. There's no way I could trust going out on the water with family and friends with an unreliable motor. They give great prices but you get what you pay for. Stay away from them save up a little more money and go with a more reputable company.

You've been warn it's not worth the aggravation and headaches dealing with them and giving them your hard earned money.
