Blackburn's Medical

Review: On 6/3/15 Blackburn's initiated the installation of an item on my wife's power chair, with the implication that it was covered by insurance. The item looks jerry-rigged, as if it is not a manufacturer part. It was therefore not entirely surprising when it stopped working shortly after installation. A repair was scheduled, but the technician indicated he didn't have the parts to perform the work, and indicated that someone would call when the part was available and repairs could be made (this call has since been received, but due to my wife's being in the hospital and then a skilled nursing facility, no repair has been scheduled).

In August we received a bill from Blackburn's in the amount of $2212.37. When my wife called she was told that this was the "portion" not covered by insurance. The EOB from the insurance company stated the item was considered experimental and so was not covered.

It would have been appropriate for Blackburn's to be more transparent about the item, including the cost, the fact that it was not covered, and the experimental nature of the item. In that case we would have had the opportunity to make an informed decision as to whether the item was wanted or not.

On 10/2/15 a letter was faxed to Blackburn's requesting that the item be retrieved and the charge removed, but we continue to receive statements for the amount.Desired Settlement: Removal of the charge.
