Review: Apparently you have to be a member if you use their services. I was a customer/member for about 14 years and apparently accumulated $600+ in membership funds. I moved to Arizona and got a tiny check. I called and asked to be released as a member and to receive the total funds they say are mine as a member. I was told that I was a member for life and that I would just get that tiny check every year. This year it appears that they are BILLING me for $3.35!!Desired Settlement: $604.19

Blackfoot Telephone Cooperative, Inc. operates as

a non-profit corporation and is a cooperative. Customers who buy services from

the company become members of the cooperative. Each year our members earn a

portion of Blackfoot's income based on the amount of services they purchase.

These earnings are called capital credits. Each member's capital credit account

is maintained by the company. Capital credits are placed in member's accounts

based on criteria established in company bylaws. Capital credits are paid out

to members when directed by Blackfoot's Board of Trustees.

Moving from the Blackfoot service area or

discontinuing phone service does not result in a full payment of capital

credits. The bylaws only allow payments for general distributions or estate

retirements upon death of the current or former customer. A customer

continues to maintain its capital credit account as an inactive member

with the Cooperative even after they have disconnected your service. Customer

will continue to receive capital credits checks until all funds allocated to

their capital credit accounts are paid out.

The $3.35 for this customer was paid out as a

general distribution for 2015, which is below the $7.50 minimum amount to issue

a check and will be added to her next distribution, which is scheduled to occur

in 2016.

Review: A phone number [redacted] repeatedly will contact me with an automated greeting that begins as "Hi, this is [redacted] from Account Services" in which the solicitation is about consolidating and lowering credit card debt. An option to be added to the DNC is provided, but when pressed, is asking for more phone numbers which are then added to the automated call list and begin getting calls.

When I speak to a representative, which I have on several occasions, and asked to be removed from the list - the rep terminates the call, and calls resume. If I engage in a conversation with the rep, and an undesirable answer is received, the rep terminates the call.

In web searching this number, and this tagline "Hi, this is [redacted] from Account Services", I am one of thousands of people receiving this unwarranted solicitation. I am on the national DNC registry, and as this is a B2C solicitation - I fall under the guidelines of no contact. If nothing can be done to prevent this from occurring further, then I presume further measures will be required to make this practice cease.Desired Settlement: I would like these calls to cease, and the law to be followed. If a caller asks to be removed from the list - remove them.

Blackfoot Telephone Cooperative is in receipt 1/21/14 of the complaint filed with you by [redacted]. Blackfoot has received many calls regarding an entity appearing to call from [redacted] and talking about credit management. Blackfoot Telephone Cooperative is a wireline and data service provider that offers telephone service. As such we do own the telephone exchange of [redacted] so it is understandable how complainant [redacted] believes Blackfoot is responsible for or in some way associated with these calls. However we are in no way associated with the entitiy making these calls to people all across the country. While [redacted] has been a working number with Blackfoot Telephone Cooperative in the past, it has not been active in our switch nor assigned to any active customer since 1998 (please see attached, redacted view of inactive account).

Our Central Office Manager verified on 1/15/14 that these calls cannot be traced because the calls are not connecting through our switch. He determined that this is what is known as spoofing a number. A way to make it appear that the calling number is something other than the actual number the caller is associated with. This is a well documented, questionable sales practice used by companies that lack integrity. We have been encouraging people that receive these calls to contact the FCC and file a complaint so that this number spoofing can be investigated fully by them. It is not within our power to make these calls stop,

since we are not associated with the calls or the company making the calls,

the number is not an active number (when that number is called back, a disconnect message is given)

and we cannot trace the calls since they are not passing through our switch.
