In reference to the complaint from Mr [redacted] , I would like to respond with accurate details about the work my company performed for him sans-serif;"> On 7-11-2014, my worker and I went to his place and fixed the broken pipes in his pump house and installed a prime valve on the suction side of his pump We reprimed his pump , but could not keep it pumping due to a leak in the suction line The suction line was a black poly pipe which was installed many years ago by the previous owner [redacted] ) The suction line was installed to pull water from the [redacted] river for yard irrigation Mr [redacted] had many problems over the years due to floods, algae, and silt that the pump sucked out of the river Mr [redacted] made most of the repairs due to his knowledge of water systems He was the maintenance supervisor for [redacted] ISD where I also did extensive work for him My worker and I worked from 12:PM until 2:PM on 7-11- I told Mr [redacted] that he would need to have the suction line replaced if he wanted to repair the existing system I told him he would have to have a path cleared along the river bank in order to make the repairs I told him I would try to find someone to clear a path along the river for him so a new suction line could be installed My worker and I walked down stairs leading to the river bank We walked to the end of the suction line and estimated the distance to the pump house to be 300' Mr [redacted] agreed and hired me to do the job I told Mr [redacted] that I would charge him for the work performed on 7-11-when we installed the new suction line I was unable to find anyone to clear the river bank, but Mr [redacted] found someone and had it done I ordered 300' of 2" schedule PVC pipe and a 2" foot valve I went to Mr [redacted] 's a second time on 7-24- My worker and I worked from 9:AM til 2:PM to install the new suction line and foot valve It took joints of pipe which are 20' long each to reach the screen That is a total of 220' We primed the pump and activated the irrigation system The pump with the new suction line and foot valve performed perfectly I told Mr [redacted] that if the system failed again, he should install a submersible and that he could use the new 2' pipe that we installed I told Mr [redacted] that the previous owner had lots of problems with the centrifugal pump because of the silt and algae from the river In reference to Mr [redacted] 's complaint that I overcharged him on labor, I only charged him for hours labor when we actually worked for hours counting the combined trips and jobs I am attaching time sheets from my worker who uses a phone application to track his hours on each job we do I only charged Mr [redacted] for hours because I wanted to give him a break on labor so that he would hire me for future jobs In reference to Mr [redacted] 's claim that he called me on 8-26-to repair a leak and that I repaired the leak on 8-28-14, I did not work for him on 8-28- I repaired a leak for him on 8-13- I am also attaching a time sheet from my hand for 8-13- I invoiced him for that job on 8-18-(See attached invoice) The reason the job was not warrantied is because the pump got hot and melted the fittings attached to the pump just like it did the first time and many times before with the previous owner The pump got hot because of silt and algae that it sucked into the impeller I phoned Mr [redacted] on 8-13-and told him about the repair and that it did not loose it's prime I told him it was because of silt and algae Even though the suction line is screened, the pump is still able to suck algae and silt into it's impeller causing the pump not the pump efficiently The pump continues to run when the irrigation system is between stations which causes the pump to heat up and melt the fittings Mr [redacted] says in his complaint that I should have used metal fitting to prevent the melting, but in my years of experience, the metal fittings and pipe heat up as well and transfer the heat to the plastic down the line Using metal also allows the pump to get so hot that it damages the seals, gaskets, and possibly the impeller The original system was installed by the original owner with him full well knowing that flooding, algae, and silt would be a problem The current screen was installed by him In reference to the $invoice from 8-18-2014, it has not been payed Mr [redacted] called my wife and was upset and short with her She did not argue with him because she did not know the circumstances involved I did not call Mr [redacted] about the invoice because I assumed he would pay it and I told him on 8-13-why the pump malfunctioned and melted the fittings In reference to the claim that I refused to come repair the new leak in October, I received a phone message from his son I called him back He said he was taking care of his parents place while they were out of town He said the fitting attached to the pump on the suction and discharge side were leaking I told that was the same problem that was repaired on 8-13- His son said the had pulled the screen out of the river and that it was dirty He said he cleaned it as best he could I told the fittings were melted because the pump got hot due to silt and algae from the river I told him that his parents had not payed the previous invoice He said he would talk to his parents and get back to me He did not ask me to make the repairs I did not install the screen in the river The screen was installed by Mr [redacted] I do not know of a way to efficiently screen the silt and algae from the river enough for a centrifugal pump not to have problemsI told Mr [redacted] that he needed to install a submersible pump if he continued to have problems A submersible pump does not required priming When the check valve is removed from a submersible pump, every time the pump cuts off the water in the system back washes and cleans out the impellers and the screen It also prevents the water lines and other parts of the system from freezing and busting I have numerous customers with submersible pumps installed in creeks, rivers, lakes, and ponds They all work great and last for many years The submersible pumps I sell and install come with a year warranty If Mr [redacted] wants to use river water for irrigation and he wants it warrantied, that is the type system he needs to have installed I did not give Mr [redacted] a written or verbal warranty because of the reasons stated in this reply and because of the problems this system has had in the past due to algae and silt not to mention the massive flood damage the river can cause I have been in business for over years I have never received a complaint I do very little advertising Most of my business comes from repeat customers and referrals from them In reference to the desired settlement, the suction line I installed is not leaking It is the fittings that are attached to the suction and discharge side of the pump I only repaired the fittings that were broken and melted the first time I worked for Mr [redacted] I don't feel that I owe Mr [redacted] anything If anything, he still needs to pay the $invoice and I cut him a break on labor already The new suction pipe is not leaking and can still be used with a submersible installation If the current system is repaired, it will malfunction again as soon as it gets clogged with silt and algae I informed Mr [redacted] that a submersible was the way to go if he wanted less problems with the system He agreed, but wanted the suction line replaced with the current system Sincerely, [redacted]

I ordered 300' of 2" schedule 40 PVC pipe and a 2" foot valve.  I went to Mr. [redacted]'s a second time on 7-24-14.  My worker and I worked from 9:30 AM til 2:30 PM to install the new suction line and foot valve.  It took 11 joints of pipe which are 20' long each to reach the screen.  That is a total of 220'.  We primed the pump and activated the irrigation system.  The pump with the new suction line and foot valve performed perfectly.  I told Mr. [redacted] that if the system failed again, he should install a submersible and that he could use the new 2' pipe that we installed.  I told Mr. [redacted] that the previous owner had lots of problems with the centrifugal pump because of the silt and algae from the river. 
 
In reference to Mr. [redacted]'s complaint that I overcharged him on labor,  I only charged him for 6 hours labor when we actually worked for 7.5 hours counting the combined trips and jobs.  I am attaching time sheets from my worker who uses a phone application to track his hours on each job we do.  I only charged Mr. [redacted] for 6 hours because I wanted to give him a break on labor so that he would hire me for future jobs. 
 
In reference to Mr. [redacted]'s claim that he called me on 8-26-2014 to repair a leak and that I repaired the leak on 8-28-14,  I did not work for him on 8-28-2014.  I repaired a leak for him on 8-13-2014.  I am also attaching a time sheet from my hand for 8-13-2014.  I invoiced him for that job on 8-18-2014 (See attached invoice).  The reason the job was not warrantied is because the pump got hot and melted the fittings attached to the pump just like it did the first time and many times before with the previous owner.  The pump got hot because of silt and algae that it sucked into the impeller.  I phoned Mr. [redacted] on 8-13-2014 and told him about the repair and that it did not loose it's prime.  I told him it was because of silt and algae.  Even though the suction line is screened, the pump is still able to suck algae and silt into it's impeller causing the pump not the pump efficiently.  The pump continues to run when the irrigation system is between stations which causes the pump to heat up and melt the fittings.  Mr. [redacted] says in his complaint that I should have used metal fitting to prevent the melting, but in my 41 years of experience,  the metal fittings and pipe heat up as well and transfer the heat to the plastic down the line.  Using metal also allows the pump to get so hot that it damages the seals, gaskets, and possibly the impeller.  The original system was installed by the original owner with him full well knowing that flooding, algae, and silt would be a problem.  The current screen was installed by him.

I did not install the screen in the river.  The screen was installed by Mr. [redacted].  I do not know of a way to efficiently screen the silt and algae from the river enough for a centrifugal pump not to have problems. I told Mr. [redacted] that he needed to install a submersible pump if he continued to have problems.  A submersible pump does not required priming.  When the check valve is removed from a submersible pump,  every time the pump cuts off the water in the system back washes and cleans out the impellers and the screen.  It also prevents the water lines and other parts of the system from freezing and busting.  I have numerous customers with submersible pumps installed in creeks, rivers, lakes, and ponds.  They all work great and last for many years.  The submersible pumps I sell and install come with a 5 year warranty.  If Mr. [redacted] wants to use river water for irrigation and he wants it warrantied,  that is the type system he needs to have installed.  I did not give Mr. [redacted] a written or verbal warranty because of the reasons stated in this reply and because of the problems this system has had in the past due to algae and silt not to mention the massive flood damage the river can cause.
 
I have been in business for over 20 years.  I have never received a complaint.  I do very little advertising.  Most of my business comes from repeat customers and referrals from them.
