Review: We hired Blades Pro Lawn to dig foundation footers and grating for or new addition with the understanding from the owner (Aaron Hanna) that he could provide those services as quoted by him "I have done these many time". Our initial conversation was to have him grade the area to slope down and to dig footers. We gave him the initial deposit with the understanding that he would be there that following monday to begin his work. Come that Monday he never showed or called. We had to called him several times. He indicated that he had another job that got behind and he was headed on vacation, so we had to wait two more weeks for him to get here to start the work. When he finally began he started grating and pulling out the dirt from the side of the house and preceded to take it and cover the entire side yard with the dirt which wasn't top soil but clay. Our yard had 2 feet of clay dirt and he took that and smoothed it out. He dug up several bedrock and was suppose to have them hauled away but did not have it all taken away. He had two loads of gravel delivered (I witnessed) for the drive way and he moved it all to the area where the footers were suppose to be dug and he charged us double for the gravel. The gravel never made it to the driveway. He preceded to attempted to dig footers with the wrong equipment. The footers should only be 2 feet by 30 inches deep they were dug 4 ft + by 35"deep. We told him several times and for someone that said he knew how to dig them?? We told him they were not right so he went back and filled them back in and he tried a second time and this time they were crooked. So we had them filled back in and told him we will have someone else do them. In Short He could not provide the services as contracted by him. We had to pay another contractor to come and fix what he missed up and we had to spend more money getting the footers properly dug and regrade the yard. We attempted to call him with no success and we did finally talked to him with no resolution.Desired Settlement: We would like to settle with half of the money refunded to us. We paid a total of 3680.00 and are asking 1,840.00 of the money to be refunded. We feel and have proof that he did not properly provide all the services as promised. We feel this is a fair settlement!

Response:

July 25, 2014Dear [redacted]I have discussed this complaint 2 times with the customers prior to receiving this communication through the Revdex.com. Rather than dispute each allegation made in the customer's complaint, I will focus on the factors which affected the outcome of this job. First, there were 3 individuals giving me directions on the job and none of them were on the same page. Their objectives changed significantly as I was working on the job and since had provided the estimate before the job. Both gentlemen who are the homeowners provided conflicting direction, as well as one of their family members who acted like a superintendent and subject matter expert over their project. This family member interrupted me on an ongoing basis throughout the time I was on the job to direct me to do things the way he felt they should be done, often differing from the direction provided by one of the homeowners. This family member was arrogant, rude and demanding. He mentioned that he attempted some of the Services they'd hired me to provide and knew how to do what was there to do. I'm not sure why he was riot providing those services, since He advised he could do a better job himself. Given the differing direction of each of the 3 men, it was impossible to please any of them. Second, the job was in no way prepared when I arrived as the homeowners promised when provided the estimate, was told to expect the 2 huge rocks onsite would be removed by a crane and a large hole would be filled but neither of these had occurred. They could not find a contractor to remove the rock for a price they considered reasonable. They needed a crane and excavating company, but were unwilling to pay for that service since the job was "already over budget". Since the gentlemen homeowners were "friends" with my spouse and she asked me to do what could to help them, I mistakenly offered to help them through this situation rather than walk away and tell them to contact me when the site was prepared for the services agreed to provide. Apparently, they fest any services provided outside the estimate would be free of charge and argued with me on fee for the additional services, trying to articulate my expenses and accusing me of "trying to make money off of them". I don't realize was expected to work for free and incur experises for their job out of my pocket, which ended up being the case. Finally, the gentlemen homeowners gave to their neighbor most of the backfill onsite which was included in the estimate I provided and I needed to complete work on their job site. As a result, I had to pay for twice the materials needed for their job and apparently, I was expected by the customers to absorb this expense myself. I will offer the customers $500 simply as a good faith gesture, as well as a full and final resolution to their dispute. I arrived at the $500 offered which was the fee on the estimate for digging the footers which I did not complete for these customers. The family member who was directing me as I first attempted to dig the footers, stopped me and decided he would complete this task since he knew better how it was to be done. The gentlermen homeowners had moved their lines 2 times changing the layout of the project. This $500 will come out of my pocket since the completion of the job was a loss for my business and no profit or payment for the labor I myself provided was realized. Sincerely Yours,Aaron H[redacted] Blades Pro l.awn
