Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # [redacted] Please add your rejection comments below One reason for contacting the Revdex.com is because of an impasse with [redacted] when I spoke directly with him twice on the phoneHe didn’t appear to be interested in hearing my complaints, nor addressing them as soon as possible, nor observing the damage done by his foremen to my property for himselfAnother reason for contacting the Revdex.com is to advise other individuals that Barry John Chimney Services betrayed the “trustworthiness” that Revdex.com pledges is a reason why companies should be accredited with themIn [redacted] ’s latest response, his tactic moves the focus outside the scope of the original complaintI am listing some of his comments as examples of irrelevancy or inaccuracy in regard to the issues I addressed in my original complaint and first response followed up by a brief responseExamples:Again, Mr [redacted] leaves the fact out that he spoke directly to the Office Manager before sending the email and that we were to cease all work, which was conveyed to all parties first thing in the morning when the crews came to workThe preceding paragraph of my previous response that [redacted] ’s responded to (provided above) clearly states that I spoke with the Office Manager, ***This is more of a relevant fact for me than BJCS to show that I made another attempt several hours after my first phone conversation with [redacted] to get an update from BJCS, before requesting they cease work by email a couple hours later after I had not received an update.Mr [redacted] seems to have little respect for the fact that I would put my company out on the Revdex.com as many small companies wouldn’t if they were going to do unfair practices and leave themselves open to such attacks as these This response from [redacted] is entirely irrelevant to my original complaint and also unfounded1) I hired BJCS in part because they are accredited with the Revdex.com, and I expected them to adhere to the principles of the Revdex.com2) The local competitors I contacted, also small companies, are accredited with the Revdex.comRevdex.com accreditation is almost as essential as being licensed and insured if companies’ want individuals to view them as trustworthy, credible, and responsible[redacted] ’s response is also irrelevant for why a company joins the Revdex.comAs the Revdex.com’s website states: “A recent [redacted] poll showed 85% of consumers prefer to do business with a Revdex.com Accredited Business - this may be one of your greatest assets.” And “For most decision makers, evaluating the trustworthiness of a business is one of the first steps in making a product purchase or service decision .A company of any size that carries the internationally recognized Revdex.com mark of accreditation inherits the added advantage of over years of trusted goodwill in all forms of commerce .Everything Revdex.com does is designed to strengthen reputable business, expose substandard marketplace behavior and protect the public.” Another avenue that is not held in much standing in the service industry, as Mr [redacted] knows most people will take more time ruin a company’s reputation rather than to complimentSometimes, but not always as in the case of BJCS’ competitorsOne would think reviews would be consistent from one company to the next, but BJCS is the only one with subpar ratings in the local area.I would also like to point out that Mr [redacted] did take to social media to point out his chimney issue and that a chimney company did the repairs I would like to point out this is on the “All About Franklin” site on [redacted] (see attached pictures) although he didn’t use my Companys name in the post there are very few Chimney Businesses in the Town of Franklin mine being one of them, so it doesn’t take much to narrow down the search as we were able to find it rather easily. This point from [redacted] is yet again out of scope to the original complaintI am not able to view [redacted] ’s photos if he did in fact post someThere is a group on [redacted] called All About FranklinBecause we were getting such a cold draft coming through my family room from the damage done by BJCS, I needed an emergency repair done to my chimneyI never used BJCS’ name nor ever provided what town the company is fromIn fact, I didn’t even provide my address My original post read in part: “Does anyone know if there are masonry companies that could patch a hole in my chimney this time of year? I'm new to Franklin and based on recommendations in this group, I went with a local chimney company that destroyed my chimney slant and then tried charging me $1,extra for their damage (along with several other contract violations).” Local could be Franklin, Bellingham, Foxboro, etcAll towns are locations I got quotes fromHad the All About Franklin moderator felt I was making it obvious who the company is, they would have taken down my postWhat is revealing is that many local companies were recommended except BJCS.Mr [redacted] has stretched the truth as far as he can to make it sound that I run a terrible business and that I am out to take advantage with every customer I interact with, which is so far from the truth [redacted] and BJCS have more reason to stretch the truth than I doMy motivation is merely to warn other individuals of deceptive and damaging practices as outlined in my original complaint [redacted] states that I am accusing him of taking advantage of “every customer [he] interacts with” which is quite an exaggeration and is irrelevant to my original complaint. He has stated that he received quotes prior to mine that were in the range of the additional cost of $we quoted for the Smoke Chamber repairs and then said it cost $(which I believe he posted on his [redacted] site)I have not posted on [redacted] or any social media site the chimney repair cost for the damage done by BJCSThe first part of [redacted] 's statement above incorrectly merges two separate events as if they are one eventI got before I hired BJCS with a quote I received for repairing the damage done by BJCS after they ripped a hole in the chimneyThey are two, separate events and irrelevant to the original complaintAnd I had written that the competitor's quote was similar to the BJCS estimate (before BJCS wanted to tackle on another $1,000)Besides not having permission to hammer a hole into my chimney, it should be noted BJCS still has not confirmed what additional damage they found. In conclusion, to respond any further is to waste my time and that of the Revdex.com moderatorsI did not expect [redacted] to suddenly apologize; his demeanor the first two times I spoke with him made that really obviousUnfortunately, I do not think my issues were adequately addressed or resolved by BJCSI am requesting the Revdex.com post my original complaint and close this since [redacted] is responding with points outside the scope Regards, [redacted]

Cracked/Broken Crown We removed and built a  new Cement Crown for the Top of the Chimney Remove and Repair 3 – 4 Courses of BrickWe removed a few courses of brick, relayed with new mortar with the same bricks we removed as these bricks were still in good condition.  We often use the same bricks if at all possible so that we don’t have a problem with the brick match or color. Repair Exterior of Shelf Slant Are The hole that Mr. [redacted] questions was us starting to do the repairs to the Exterior of the Chimney’s Shelf area.  At this time the crew found that there was more damage inside the smoke chamber and called the home owner out and brought this to his attention.   At that time he told both members of my crew that if requires more work and cost to repair correctly then the repairs should be made.  My Foreman informed Mr. [redacted] that it would be an additional $1000.00 to repair the inside of the smoke chamber and at that point the customer agreed to move forward.   That afternoon Mr. [redacted] called my office and spoke to me about the project and he wanted to know why it was going to cost more for the repairs & informed me that the crew installed a cap on the 2nd flue that they had left over from another job.  I told him that I would need to speak to my crew members to get all the answers to his questions and I would get back to him.  By the end of that same day he spoke to my office manager and stated that he was upset that no one got back to him earlier about his questions and that we were to cease all work on his property.   The following morning I had a meeting with the crew and gathered all the details of the project regarding the extra cost for the repairs and the cap that they installed.   I called Mr. [redacted] back that morning after I had all the details of the project. Once we began our conversation around the project and the previous day’s events he told me he never gave the OK for the extra $1000.00 for the repairs and questioned why there was a hole in his chimney, as well as why he was given a used chimney cap on the 2nd flue (which was at no additional cost).  I explained to him that was part of the original repair to the shelf area and the cap my crew gave him was not part of the original scope of the project (Note: the estimate 7147 has no reference to any additional cap only the Rain Cap that comes with the liner kit).   At this point in time he inquired about a larger cap that would cover the top of the entire top of the chimney and if they are better and I stated yes they are and he then stated may want to purchase the more expensive cap.   I then explained to him that due to his dissatisfaction with the project up to this point that Barry John’s Chimney Services, Inc. would repair the Top of the Chimney with New Bricks, as well as the shelf and smoke chamber waiving the additional cost of $1000.00 or if he wanted us to stop all work and hire another company.  He stated to me that he would need to discuss this further with his wife and would get back to me.  Mr. [redacted] called me back with a 15 minute timeframe and told me that they don’t want any repairs completed by Barry John’s Chimney Services, Inc. and that we were to stay off of his property.  I agreed to his request but that he still owes payment for the Liner Portion of the job we completed or I can return to remove the liner and its components and that there would be no monies owed.  Mr. [redacted] reiterated that we were to stay off of his property and that he was going to report my company to the Attorney General, as well as making derogatory remarks about my company on social media.  On Tuesday, November 21, 2017 my company received a Certified Letter stating that he wanted the hole in his chimney repaired at no additional cost and that I had 30 days to reply.  I did comply with his 30 day demand and sated that Barry John’s Chimney Services, Inc. would repair the hole at no cost but would expect payment for the stainless Steel liner that was installed to his water heater.  After he received this letter (which a copy can be provided upon request) he then took the next steps of reporting my company to the Revdex.com. I feel very strongly that there is no possible way for Barry John’s Chimney Services, Inc. to satisfy Mr. [redacted].   I’ve been in busy for over 35 years and have maintained a very high rating with the Revdex.com since being accredited in October of 2012, along with a strong customer base following in my local communities.  I have attempted to resolve this matter at no additional cost to the customer with each and every interaction with Mr. [redacted].   This being said my original offer stands that Barry John’s Chimney Services, Inc. will repair the exterior hole at no cost, but must receive payment for the stainless steel liner we installed for the original quote of $569.00 (please see attached estimate #7147).   [redacted]     Owner/President Barry John Chimney Services, Inc. 20 Grove Street Suite 5 Franklin, MA 02038

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # [redacted].
Had the foremen’s work occurred as [redacted] describes in his Revdex.com (Revdex.com) response, I would not have any reason to send Barry John Chimney Services, Inc. (BJCS) a Demand Letter and file a complaint with the Revdex.com. Unfortunately, the events as [redacted] describes them and how they are in actuality are two very different realities.  When I first called [redacted] to address my concerns, he could have agreed to inspect his foremen’s work on my property besides merely meeting with them. However, he wasn’t interested in hearing my concerns, as was evident by his continued interruptions as soon as I tried to speak. And he wasn’t interested in evaluating their work firsthand.  He repeated several times he needed to meet with his foremen first and that he would get back to me “as soon as possible.”  It felt like he was just trying to get me off the phone as quickly as possible.I have a Home Inspector report from April 2017 and moved into my Franklin house in June. The Home Inspector report’s recommendations and BJCS’ own suggestions directly contradict the actual work carried out by the foremen and [redacted]’s defense of their work, which he has not seen himself. I have photo evidence to support the foremen did not adhere to the suggestions of their estimate. BJCS owes me more for the damage to the chimney than the worth of the steel liner. And not all recommendations under this item were completed. [redacted] states I hired BJCS to repair 4 items. My complaint addresses 4 items specifically, but there are other items which are attached along with photos right after work was done on the chimney. Below are [redacted]’s points and my responsesMr. [redacted] hired Barry John Chimney Services, Inc.  to perform (4) separate repairs1.    Supply & Install a Stainless Steel Liner (which includes a Rain Cap, Connector, and Top Plate) down to his Water Heater. [[redacted]]: A stainless steel liner was installed, but this is an incomplete and incorrect job. The foremen installed a second hand rain cap that is smaller and worse than the one it replaced.  The mutual agreement was that a new chimney cap would be installed to protect the top of the chimney so the bricks would be less likely to crumble again from water seeping into the brick, freezing, and eventually expanding the brick and breaking it. [redacted] by phone said the estimate didn’t state BJCS would install a “multi-flue chimney cap.” The estimate didn’t state to install a used rain cap either. The Home Inspection report from April 2017 states: “I advise installation of a full sized rain hood/spark arrestor on the chimney by a qualified chimney professional.” Another chimney company also suggested a stainless steel multi-flue cap that extends over the entire chimney top – similar in price as BJCS.  I expected a multi-flue chimney cap is what BJCS was going to install under MATERIAL in their estimate. I have photos that show the original house chimney cap versus the one BJCS added. Either BJCS is being dishonest here or is incompetent.2.       Remove a Cracked/Broken Crown[[redacted]] [redacted], in listing item #2 above, only included the second part of the estimate’s item. The estimate states the foremen were to “Remove Top 3 - 4 Course of Chimney” (stated by [redacted] as #3 below in reverse order from estimate) and then “Rebuild Back-Up to Code with New Cement Crown”. The foremen did not rebuild the chimney back up to Massachusetts state code.  The foremen put a layer of cement on top of crumbling brick.  I asked the foremen onsite directly why they didn’t rebuild the chimney up to code; the foremen said the chimney top was fine as is and challenged the notion that state inspectors wouldn’t approve. I have photo evidence to show the foremen did not rebuild the chimney to code.3.       Remove and Repair 3 – 4 Courses of Brick[[redacted]] This point should actually come before point 2, as this suggestion is directly related as an action prior to #2. No entire courses of brick were removed from the top of the chimney. A few individual broken bricks had new mortar added in between them, which is not what is agreed to in the contract. Besides BJCS agreeing to remove and rebuild these bricks as stated in the estimate, the House Inspector and other chimney company agreed the top course bricks are in such bad condition they need to be removed and rebuilt accordingly. One chimney company showed me the brick in fine granular pieces on the top course of brick. I have photos that show the condition of the course of bricks and where the BJCS foremen added mortar to a few bricks. The Home Inspection report also has a photo with 4 arrows for each course of brick that needed to be rebuilt at the top of the chimney. BJCS did not complete this contract recommendation.4.       Repair Exterior of Shelf Slant Area[[redacted]] I have removed BJCS’ response since it was rather long and very inaccurate. Therefore, I have decided to add only my explanation.  [redacted]’s version of events leaves out key details and incorrectly states the order of events. Nearing the end of the work day on Wednesday, November 15, the foremen came to my front door after they installed the steel liner kit.  Because I was working from home, my wife answered the door and led me to the foremen.  They said the chimney was in worse condition than they thought. They said if they continued work, the new estimate would be about the same price as a gas insert.  They brought up an estimation of $4,000. Therefore, they recommended they not continue doing any more repairs to the chimney and that I shop for a gas insert.  They specifically referred the fireplace store [redacted] in Holliston, MA to pick out a gas insert. They also said there is another local fireplace store in Franklin, [redacted], but that I should avoid them because of a bad reputation. Then the foremen recommended I call BJCS back to install the gas insert once I picked one out.Immediately following this conversation, the foremen said the next steps involved them writing up a bill “for a few hundred dollars” in their BJCS truck parked in my driveway. I waited about 30 minutes in my living room, but when I saw they were still in their truck, I went upstairs to my office to continue working. About 30 minutes later, the foremen without notice or permission started hammering into my chimney. 10 minutes later they came to my door. They told me they had more bad news: the exterior shelf area would cost an extra $1,000. We all went over to the shelf slant area where they showed me the brick was loose and mortar was cracking. They didn’t seem aware that this was already a recommendation covered in the estimate. After the foremen left, I took several photos of the incomplete work as well as the damaged chimney slant shelf area. The foremen also hammered large nails directly into the side of my house to secure a board for a tarp. Now there are permanent holes in my siding. I compared the recommendations, price, and the additional $1,000 and realized BJCS were now around the same price as another quote. I started getting suspicious that this was a bait-and-switch sale: sell a cheap quote, get the project, and then pile on the cost once onsite.I first called [redacted] at 9:40am ET on Thursday, November 16 to address my many concerns [redacted] didn’t appear interested in listening to my individual concerns and said he would follow up “as soon as possible”.  When I had not received an update from [redacted] by end of the business day, I called and spoke with the office manager, [redacted] who said he didn’t have an update from [redacted]. After another two hours passed, I emailed BJCS at 8:13pm ET and requested his foremen cease work. In the email I included what I considered individual violations of the original agreement and/or property destroyed since [redacted] didn’t give me a chance to explain them during the morning call.  This is a much more reasonable timeline than [redacted] allotted in his Revdex.com response that I called him the afternoon on the same day the foremen damaged the exterior of the shelf slant area and a short time later spoke with his office manager and ceased work. This is incorrect. I have my original email response with the timeline in the email. The next morning on Friday, November 17, [redacted] called me and was noticeably irritated because of my email. Although he initially agreed to waive the $1,000 in regard to the exterior of the shelf slant area, he stated he would need to charge me around $400 for a new multi-flue cap which is what I initially expected would be installed.  Therefore, his offer to waive the additional $1,000 seemed disingenuous, especially since the estimate already covered the exterior of the shelf slant area (as well as the House Inspection report and another chimney quote.[redacted] is not correct in stating I inquired in one of the follow up phone conversations about whether a multi-flue chimney cap is better than a rain cap.  I am familiar with a multi-flue chimney cap because the Home Inspector covered this in both person and in his report. He also pointed to my neighbor’s chimney cap as an example.  The other chimney company also suggested a multi-flue chimney cap. I wasn’t just concerned the foremen had installed a used rain cap, but that they installed the wrong cap altogether.I never stated to [redacted] that I was going to make “derogatory remarks”.In conclusion, I have never filed a complaint before with the Revdex.com. I am doing so because of the unprofessionalism, rudeness, and crassness. BJCS’ 35+ years of experience and no Revdex.com complaints filed in their short history with the Revdex.com is irrelevant with regard to 1) possible human error and 2) my complaint.  Contrary to what BJCS states, they do not have a strong following and are not popular: two [redacted] “likes” on one page and ten [redacted] “likes” on another page (versus hundreds of “likes” with their competitors), 2.2 star rating on [redacted] Reviews and 3.5 star rating on [redacted] vs 3.5 or higher from local competitors.I feel very strongly that I cannot trust this company to repair anything on my property because it wasn’t just one isolated incident, but multiple.
Regards,
[redacted]

[redacted]                                         ... 175 Oak Street Franklin, MA 02038   Dear Mr. [redacted], After you responded to complaint # [redacted], Revdex.com received additional customer comments, in the form of a rebuttal, to your business response.   Dear Mr. [redacted],   Its seems we have come to an impasse on how the events unfolded and what was listed on the Estimate we provided and the work we attempted to do for Mr. [redacted]. He has continued to omit conversations in the way they unfolded to make to make it look as though we were unaware or every spoken to or had you issues addressed by me or my staff.    Mr. [redacted] also has gone as far as calling me basically a liar and a crook as he stated and I quote “I started getting suspicious that this was a bait-and-switch sale: sell a cheap quote, get the project, and then pile on the cost once onsite.”  There is no way for any company to determine how the interior of your Smoke Chamber was built which is beneath the Exterior Shelf Area.  He continues to attack my company and its integrity he’s come out and stated in previous correspondence that the area could be repaired for $300.00 now he’s stating that other proposals were at the cost we determined after opening up the shelf area for an additional $1000.00.  Mr. [redacted] also omitted the fact that even though my company was going to repair everything at no cost to him and fix the issue with his Smoke Chamber that is underneath the Shelf Area at no additional cost he’s maintain that we are unfair, unprofessional and rude.  A company that has these values ignores letters and phone calls and emails and tries to ignore the whole situation (and the email you reference and sent at 8:13 PM on 11/16/17 came after your conversation with the Office Manager at 6:00 PM stating to him that we were to cease work and he stated we would follow up with you in the morning with your issues as we did.  Comments from Consumer: Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # [redacted]. Had the foremen’s work occurred as [redacted] describes in his Revdex.com (Revdex.com) response, I would not have any reason to send Barry John Chimney Services, Inc. I have photos that show the original house chimney cap versus the one BJCS added. Either BJCS is being dishonest here or is incompetent. Please take the time and look at the pictures we provided it shows the before of what the top of his chimney looked like and you will clearly see that there is a flue that is flush with the crown with no cap.  In the pictures that Mr. [redacted] was so kind to provide is the crown with the Clay Tile being extended to the proper height with the 2nd hand cap as he likes to call it that we provided at no cost.  This is an extra cap that was not part of the original quote.  Now, look at the secondary flue that has the liner and is capped going to his heating system which now also has a cap on top.  If in fact the work was not done correctly his heating system would not be working showing the work was completed correctly.  Please refer back to the original quote there is no word of a Multi-Flue Cap on the quote on a Liner, Top Plate, Connector and Rain Cap which was installed. 2.       Remove a Cracked/Broken Crown [[redacted]] [redacted], in listing item #2 above, only included the second part of the estimate’s item. I have photo evidence to show the foremen did not rebuild the chimney to code. Please see the before photos for comparison and we already spoke to this in length in the previous correspondence. We stated we would rebuild with new bricks and to appropriate height. 3.       Remove and Repair 3 – 4 Courses of Brick [[redacted]] This point should actually come before point 2, as this suggestion is directly related as an action prior to #2. No entire courses of brick were removed from the top of the chimney. A few individual broken bricks had new mortar added in between them, which is not what is agreed to in the contract. This is incorrect. I have my original email response with the timeline in the email. Again, Mr. [redacted] leaves the fact out that he spoke directly to the Office Manager before sending the email and that we were to cease all work, which was conveyed to all parties first thing in the morning when the crews came to work. Therefore, his offer to waive the additional $1,000 seemed disingenuous, especially since the estimate already covered the exterior of the shelf slant area (as well as the House Inspection report and another chimney quote. As stated above the reason for the increase cost was due to the issue with the Smoke Chamber that is beneath the Exterior Shelf area.  In order for Mr. [redacted] to have a safe fire in his fireplace that area needed to be built back up properly which is where the extra cost came into play.  Again, something that can’t be seen prior to any repairs being stated to the exterior shelf area. [redacted] is not correct in stating I inquired in one of the follow up phone conversations about whether a multi-flue chimney cap is better than a rain cap.  I am familiar with a multi-flue chimney cap because the Home Inspector covered this in both person and in his report. He also pointed to my neighbor’s chimney cap as an example.  The other chimney company also suggested a multi-flue chimney cap. I wasn’t just concerned the foremen had installed a used rain cap, but that they installed the wrong cap altogether. I never stated to [redacted] that I was going to make “derogatory remarks”. In conclusion, I have never filed a complaint before with the Revdex.com. I am doing so because of the unprofessionalism, rudeness, and crassness. BJCS’ 35+ years of experience and no Revdex.com complaints filed in their short history with the Revdex.com is irrelevant with regard to 1) possible human error and 2) my complaint.  Contrary to what BJCS states, they do not have a strong following and are not popular: two [redacted] “likes” on one page and ten [redacted] “likes” on another page (versus hundreds of “likes” with their competitors), 2.2 star rating on [redacted] Reviews and 3.5 star rating on [redacted] vs 3.5 or higher from local competitors. Mr. [redacted] seems to have little respect for the fact that I would put my company out on the Revdex.com as many small companies wouldn’t if they were going to do unfair practices and leave themselves open to such attacks as these.  Seeing that we have been out there since 2012 and this is the first complaint my company has had to deal with I’m proud about that. He also, refers to [redacted] another social media avenue that we do not use as we are a small business and don’t have the resources to maintain that site.  So, I’m not surprised by the low popularity on that site seeing that we have no business page.  I’m also glad he tried to attack my company on [redacted] and [redacted] as if Mr. [redacted] took the time to read the names, dates and number of responses he would see that there was 11 reviews over the past 8 Years some of which using fake names and reviews.  Another avenue that is not held in much standing in the service industry, as Mr. [redacted] knows most people will take more time ruin a company’s reputation rather than to compliment.  I would also like to point out that Mr. [redacted] did take to social media to point out his chimney issue and that a chimney company did the repairs.  I would like to point out this is on the “All About Franklin” site on [redacted] (see attached pictures) although he didn’t use my Companys name in the post there are very few Chimney Businesses in the Town of Franklin mine being one of them, so it doesn’t take much to narrow down the search as we were able to find it rather easily. I feel very strongly that I cannot trust this company to repair anything on my property because it wasn’t just one isolated incident, but multiple. I could continue down the path of disputing the items above and my apologies if I haven’t addressed them all but I feel I have addressed them in length throughout this process.   Mr. [redacted] has stretched the truth as far as he can to make it sound that I run a terrible business and that I am out to take advantage with every customer I interact with, which is so far from the truth.  I would be remise if I didn’t state that I haven’t had customer complaints on various items and issues. I take every complaint and issue personally and address each one in hopes to keep every customer I interact with happy.  Unfortunately, this is not always the case point in hand with Mr. [redacted] he seems to think I am attempting to take advantage of him and lie about the whole process which in the very end I have nothing to gain only lose.  Again, I’ve stated throughout the first interaction I had with Mr. [redacted] that I would make all the repairs as well as the additional repairs to fix the Smoke Chamber properly and Exterior Shelf at no cost, as well as any other issues he wanted addressed. He has found that this is unacceptable and continues to state I can’t be trusted.  Mr. [redacted] continues to maintain that we did more damage to his chimney than the liner is worth. He has stated that he received quotes prior to mine that were in the range of the additional cost of $1000.00 we quoted for the Smoke Chamber repairs and then said it cost $300.00 (which I believe he posted on his [redacted] site).  All of this being said I maintain that the portion of the Liner job was completed and even if he feels as though it wasn’t the cost for the Liner & Kit is $569.00 as can clearly be seen on the estimate and he has stated that the repairs for his chimney was $300.00.  This leaves a difference of $169.00 that should be payable to Barry John Services, Inc. or a 3rd party can go remove all of the material and return it to Barry John Chimney, Services. Sincerely [redacted] Owner/President Barry John Chimney Services, Inc.     This complaint was filed on 12/20/2017 by [redacted]. Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # [redacted]. Please add your rejection comments below.
One reason for contacting the Revdex.com is because of an impasse with [redacted] when I spoke directly with him twice on the phone. He didn’t appear to be interested in hearing my complaints, nor addressing them as soon as possible, nor observing the damage done by his foremen to my property for himself. Another reason for contacting the Revdex.com is to advise other individuals that Barry John Chimney Services betrayed the “trustworthiness” that Revdex.com pledges is a reason why companies should be accredited with them. In [redacted]’s latest response, his tactic moves the focus outside the scope of the original complaint. I am listing some of his comments as examples of irrelevancy or inaccuracy in regard to the issues I addressed in my original complaint and first response followed up by a brief response. Examples:Again, Mr. [redacted] leaves the fact out that he spoke directly to the Office Manager before sending the email and that we were to cease all work, which was conveyed to all parties first thing in the morning when the crews came to work. The preceding paragraph of my previous response that [redacted]’s responded to (provided above) clearly states that I spoke with the Office Manager, [redacted]. This is more of a relevant fact for me than BJCS to show that I made another attempt several hours after my first phone conversation with [redacted] to get an update from BJCS, before requesting they cease work by email a couple hours later after I had not received an update.Mr. [redacted] seems to have little respect for the fact that I would put my company out on the Revdex.com as many small companies wouldn’t if they were going to do unfair practices and leave themselves open to such attacks as these.  This response from [redacted] is entirely irrelevant to my original complaint and also unfounded. 1) I hired BJCS in part because they are accredited with the Revdex.com, and I expected them to adhere to the principles of the Revdex.com. 2) The local competitors I contacted, also small companies, are accredited with the Revdex.com. Revdex.com accreditation is almost as essential as being licensed and insured if companies’ want individuals to view them as trustworthy, credible, and responsible.[redacted]’s response is also irrelevant for why a company joins the Revdex.com. As the Revdex.com’s website states: “A recent [redacted] poll showed 85% of consumers prefer to do business with a Revdex.com Accredited Business - this may be one of your greatest assets.” And “For most decision makers, evaluating the trustworthiness of a business is one of the first steps in making a product purchase or service decision….A company of any size that carries the internationally recognized Revdex.com mark of accreditation inherits the added advantage of over 100 years of trusted goodwill in all forms of commerce….Everything Revdex.com does is designed to strengthen reputable business, expose substandard marketplace behavior and protect the public.” Another avenue that is not held in much standing in the service industry, as Mr. [redacted] knows most people will take more time ruin a company’s reputation rather than to compliment. Sometimes, but not always as in the case of BJCS’ competitors. One would think reviews would be consistent from one company to the next, but BJCS is the only one with subpar ratings in the local area.I would also like to point out that Mr. This point from [redacted] is yet again out of scope to the original complaint. I am not able to view [redacted]’s photos if he did in fact post some. There is a group on [redacted] called All About Franklin. Because we were getting such a cold draft coming through my family room from the damage done by BJCS, I needed an emergency repair done to my chimney. I never used BJCS’ name nor ever provided what town the company is from. In fact, I didn’t even provide my address.  My original post read in part: “Does anyone know if there are masonry companies that could patch a hole in my chimney this time of year? I'm new to Franklin and based on recommendations in this group, I went with a local chimney company that destroyed my chimney slant and then tried charging me $1,000 extra for their damage (along with several other contract violations).” Local could be Franklin, Bellingham, Foxboro, etc. All 3 towns are locations I got quotes from. Had the All About Franklin moderator felt I was making it obvious who the company is, they would have taken down my post. What is revealing is that many local companies were recommended except BJCS.Mr. [redacted] has stretched the truth as far as he can to make it sound that I run a terrible business and that I am out to take advantage with every customer I interact with, which is so far from the truth.  [redacted] and BJCS have more reason to stretch the truth than I do. My motivation is merely to warn other individuals of deceptive and damaging practices as outlined in my original complaint. [redacted] states that I am accusing him of taking advantage of “every customer [he] interacts with” which is quite an exaggeration and is irrelevant to my original complaint. He has stated that he received quotes prior to mine that were in the range of the additional cost of $1000.00 we quoted for the Smoke Chamber repairs and then said it cost $300.00 (which I believe he posted on his [redacted] site). I have not posted on [redacted] or any social media site the chimney repair cost for the damage done by BJCS. The first part of [redacted]'s statement above incorrectly merges two separate events as if they are one event. I got before I hired BJCS with a quote I received for repairing the damage done by BJCS after they ripped a hole in the chimney. They are two, separate events and irrelevant to the original complaint. And I had written that the competitor's quote was similar to the BJCS estimate (before BJCS wanted to tackle on another $1,000). Besides not having permission to hammer a hole into my chimney, it should be noted BJCS still has not confirmed what additional damage they found. In conclusion, to respond any further is to waste my time and that of the Revdex.com moderators. I did not expect [redacted] to suddenly apologize; his demeanor the first two times I spoke with him made that really obvious. Unfortunately, I do not think my issues were adequately addressed or resolved by BJCS. I am requesting the Revdex.com post my original complaint and close this since [redacted] is responding with points outside the scope.
Regards,
[redacted]
