January 15, 2018Ms [redacted] The Revdex.comHoliday Drive, Suite 220Pittsburgh, PA 15220Re: ID [redacted] Dear Ms [redacted] ,On December 22, 2016, Ms [redacted] ***’s snowthrower was picked up at our facilityAt that time the invoice in the amount of $was paid in fullA copy of the invoice is enclosedAs you can see, Ms***’s unit was repaired with a new carburetor, fuel line and fuel filter as well as new, fresh fuelParts and labor for this repair was $plus taxThe balance of the charges were pickup at her house, discounted 50% because she had it picked up here instead of having us bring it back to her.In our recollection, there were at least two snows heavy enough to have used the snowthrower after December 22, If Ms [redacted] had followed the instructions in her Owner’s Manual, a copy of which is enclosed, she should have stabilized the fuel and drained it out after the last use before storing it for the summer months.Ms***’s son brought the snowthrower in for surging on December 22, 2017.The technician found rust and debris in the metal fuel tankHe also saved a tiny portion of the fuel line to show the customer that although the exterior of the line looked normal, when it is slit, it shows the deterioration of the fuel line because the system was not drained as recommended and fuel was likely in it over the summerThe tech cooked out the carburetor and tank in an ultrasonic cleaning machineHe then reassembled with a new fuel filter, fuel line and installed fresh fuel to test runEngine runs smoothly and no longer surges. When Ms***’s son came in to pick up the machine when it was repaired, he showed us the gas additive he uses, implying he had put stabilizer into the unit and drained the tank and carburetor as advised by the Owner’s ManualMs***’s son sked the Service Manager to guarantee his fuel preservative, a brand we had never heard of, and which was not purchased at this storeAs stated above, the fuel should be stabilized per the Owner’s Manual, but it should also be drained so deterioration of the fuel line doesn’t happen. There also seems to be some confusion about the fuel lineThere is only one piece of fuel line which is cut to install the fuel filterAs stated on her invoice, one foot of line was usedThis line runs from the fuel tank, cut to install the fuel filter, and the rest of the line is installed from the fuel filter to the carburetor.Because we were unable to make Ms***’s son understand that the problem was fuel related and not in any way related to the work done one year ago, he became very irateAlthough we offered a discount, it was refusedHe wanted the repairs done 100% gratis or he would see us in courtWe are unable to do that because it is not the fault of Blair Auto Service that fuel breaks downThis is a known situation by anyone that owns outdoor power equipmentIt is imperative that fuel be stabilized and drained before storageIt seems very sad that they are going to keep having the same problem yearly unless they change the way they are maintaining the snowthrowerMany of our customers bring their unit in when they are through using it in March just to avoid these problems when the unit is brought out for its first use in the winter. We are still willing to offer a discount as a goodwill gesture.Sincerely,Sarah *M***Office Manager

I hope you receive thisI read the letter from Blair Auto First of all just because there were two occasions that we had enough snow for the snow thrower to be used does not give them the say that I used itWe did have a heavy snow....my snow thrower is a smaller one and does not handle deep snowOn two occasions I had my driveway shoveled by passers bythen if there was not a snow which qualified for the snow thrower I did it myself. After the snow thrower was fixed December of I never put gasoline in it because I never used it....so I could say maybe they never fixed it properly to begin withI know what they say they did......but....As was said before.....my son put treated fuel in the tank to get it started to use it the first time after the repair in December Come on...he used treated fuel like he uses in all his gas powered machines...to say it was the TREATMENT is absurdThey will NOT understand there was NEVER any fuel left in the machine because I NEVER used it after it was repairedThey keep saying this was all because fuel was left in the tank. Thanking youMrs*** ***

the invoice is enclosed. As you can see, Ms. [redacted]’s unit was repaired with a new carburetor, fuel line and fuel filter as well as new, fresh fuel. Parts and labor for this repair was $176.54 plus tax. The balance of the charges were pickup at her house, discounted 50% because she had it picked up here instead of having us bring it back to her.In our recollection, there were at least two snows heavy enough to have used the snowthrower after December 22, 2016. If Ms. [redacted] had followed the instructions in her Owner’s Manual, a copy of which is enclosed, she should have stabilized the fuel and drained it out after the last use before storing it for the summer months.Ms. [redacted]’s son brought the snowthrower in for surging on December 22, 2017.The technician found rust and debris in the metal fuel tank. He also saved a tiny portion of the fuel line to show the customer that although the exterior of the line looked normal, when it is slit, it shows the deterioration of the fuel line because the system was not drained as recommended and fuel was likely in it over the summer. The tech cooked out the carburetor and tank in an ultrasonic cleaning machine. He then reassembled with a new fuel filter, fuel line and installed fresh fuel to test run. Engine runs smoothly and no longer surges. When Ms. [redacted]’s son came in to pick up the machine when it was repaired, he showed us the gas additive he uses, implying he had put stabilizer into the unit and drained the tank and carburetor as advised by the Owner’s Manual. Ms. [redacted]’s son sked the Service Manager to guarantee his fuel preservative, a brand we had never heard of, and which was not purchased at this store. As stated above, the fuel should be stabilized per the Owner’s Manual, but it should also be drained so deterioration of the fuel line doesn’t happen. There also seems to be some confusion about the fuel line. There is only one piece of fuel line which is cut to install the fuel filter. As stated on her 2016 invoice, one foot of line was used. This line runs from the fuel tank, cut to install the fuel filter, and the rest of the line is installed from the fuel filter to the carburetor.Because we were unable to make Ms. [redacted]’s son understand that the problem was fuel related and not in any way related to the work done one year ago, he became very irate. Although we offered a discount, it was refused. He wanted the repairs done 100% gratis or he would see us in court. We are unable to do that because it is not the fault of Blair Auto Service that fuel breaks down. This is a known situation by anyone that owns outdoor power equipment. It is imperative that fuel be stabilized and drained before storage. It seems very sad that they are going to keep having the same problem yearly unless they change the way they are maintaining the snowthrower. Many of our customers bring their unit in when they are through using it in March just to avoid these problems when the unit is brought out for its first use in the winter. We are still willing to offer a discount as a goodwill gesture.Sincerely,Sarah *.
