Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/05/15) */

By the time I had a chance to review this complaint, the issue had been resolved and the customer paid for and picked up his...

vehicle.
After installing a replacement engine along with a new starter and engine mount, we encountered a problem with the engine "almost" overheating. AEI knew that the engine itself was not causing the overheating and since the customer refused to replace most of the parts relating to the cooling system and he refused to pay for a diagnostic to identify why the overheating was occurring, AEI was in a difficult spot to resolve the issue. After spending many hours attempting to identify the issue, it was discovered that the vehicle came into the shop with a defective Fan Relay Resistor. This is part of the electrical system, not part of the engine. Basically, this defective part prevented the electrical cooling fan from operating at low speed. So the engine would not receive any auxiliary cooling assistance when needed and then eventually when the engine would come to the brink of overheating, the electric high speed cooling fan would kick in and bring the temperature down to a normal level. This then had the appearance of something being wrong with the engine when, if fact, it was a preexisting electrical problem.
Once the Fan Relay Resistor was replaced, the problem was resolved.
AEI bent over backwards for Mr. [redacted] in resolving this issue because there had been other delays in getting his engine replaced. AEI gave him a credit of $150.00 and also recharged his air conditioning for free. He was charged for the defective part and it's installation, but he was not charged for the many hours of diagnostics in identifying the defective part.
Mr. [redacted] indicates in his complaint that the overheating problem didn't exist prior to the engine replacement, but AEI strongly suspects that this is not true. You see, the engine never actually completely overheated, but it would often reach the "brink" of overheating before the high speed fan would kick in and bring the temperature down. Unless someone was closely watching the temperature gauge, you might never observe this occurring. AEI strongly thinks that this issue most likely resulted in Mr. [redacted]'s original engine engine failure. Overheating is the number one cause of engine failure.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 7, 2015/05/18) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I was completely satisfied with the resolution of this by American Engine Installations. They went way above and beyond to address my concerns and resolve my problems.
(Note: I have been trying to close this case for 10 days now and the website will not let me!)
