This letter is in response the complaint made by the Mr. [redacted] regarding a recent market transaction.
Thank you for the opportunity to submit our response.
Our record indicated that a refund for the contact lens exam was issued to our patient’s account, on the
same day as Mr. [redacted]’s request.
The following is the sequence of events. Please note that our patients’ names will be omitted to protect
their privacy.
On October 16, 2014 Mr. called to schedule exams for both his wife and daughter. At the time of
scheduling he was asked if either wore contact lenses and he confirmed that his daughter did. He was
then asked if she would be having a contact lens exam to which he replied yes and was informed about
the contact lens exam and it being a separate fee. After his insurance was confirmed we gave him a call
back and let him know that the insurance was authorized and that his wife was authorized for exam and
glasses and his daughter for exam and contacts. Daughter’s appointment was marked with a contact
lens exam request.
On October 21, 2014 Mrs. and her twenty-five year old daughter presented for eye exams. Daughter
wore contact lenses at the time of her exam and consented to having the contact exam, stating that she
would like to wear glasses full time and colored contact lenses for special occasions, this was noted on
her medical record, the patient was informed of the separate exam fee. Her mother was also present
during the contact lens fitting process, and helped the daughter choose between different colored
contact lenses.
Three days later, On October 24, 2014, Mr. [redacted] requested a refund, stating that his daughter did
not request the contact lens exam, so she was not responsible for paying it. Because Mr. [redacted] was
not present at the time of the exam, nor did he pay for the transaction, we needed to review our record
to confirm the facts. In the end, whether it was details forgotten or buyer’s remorse, it is our policy to
grant our customers’ request for a refund to retain their goodwill, which we gladly did.
The staff at Blink Optometry absolutely does not provide unwanted or unrequested exam services, nor
do we issue bonuses for “up sell”. We strive to provide excellent service and want our patients to be
healthy and happy.

Review: Hi, An appointment was made for Oct-21st, for Eye glasses, the office staff elected to add Contact Lens Exam and billed the account for $125.00. I have spoke with three different members of the office staff, [redacted], and [redacted], to no avail.My daughter only needed an Exam for Eye Glasses, yet, was charged for Contact Lens Exam fees. I would like the office to reimburse the fees charged. For future, would be in customer/patient interest, the office staff should not perform the exam unless clearly requested and well explained of all related charges.Dr. Tran is a trust worthy person, however; I believe the office staff is carrying out additional billing/ services for the patients. Perhaps the office staff is receiving BONUS on up sales.Thank you.Desired Settlement: I would like to be reimbursed for the $125.00 Fees charged for the Contact Lens Exam, which was not requested, nor needed.
