The company didn't accomplish a complete inspection of the rental property that we moved into and as a result of this myself, my wife, and my child have been eaten by bed bugsNow we have to replace most if not all of our belongings to try and prevent the spread of the infestationThey are going to get the house fumigated at no expense to usHowever the fact they allowed us to move in with out ensuring the house wasn't infested with insects is completely unacceptable

They are crooks!!!!!renters be wareMy family had rented from this company for almost yearsWe had to move out of state for work, which ended our lease early (by one month)When we signed the lease years ago we were told by the son of the owners, that the early termination fee of $was only if they could not rent the house out with in the notice period
We gave them a notice, all be it short, but they still rented the house quicklyWe even had to let people into our home to tour it and answer their questions bc of leaving early
Even though they rented the home by the end of the month that we moved out, they kept all of our security deposit(1050-refund to us)Claiming it was a favor to us that they did not peruse the $early termination fee
They are crooks and they will lie and say whatever they think you need to hear to get you to sign a leaseI would have a lawyer look it over before you sign

My family and I contacted Blue Heron Realty in March of 2012 about a rental property. The home was advertised for $1800 /mo. After looking at the home and making a decision to rent we contacted Blue Heron again about signing a lease. We also inquired about having the refrigerator replaced as it did not match the kitchen and was about 10 years old. We were told that the advertised price was a "mistake" and that the advertised rental price should have been $2000. Knowing my family had been in a hotel for 6 weeks we really wanted to get into a home. We negotiated a rental price of $1900 and a new refrigerator. We were told to go to Sears and pick the one we wanted. We chose an $1800 unit which they promptly purchased.

Blue Heron was sensitive to our urgent desire to get out of a hotel so they let us move in right away with the promise that the home would still be painted and minor repairs would be completed. Upon moving in we noted with Blue Heron the kitchen was still dirty and that we had to clean cabinets and drawers before use.

Minor repairs were promptly completed, but the home was never painted. Touch-up spots dotted the walls for the duration of our stay.

We spent 2 1/2 years in the home. Always paid on time, took very good care of the home, completing minor repairs on our own and submitting work orders for larger ones.

With our job ending we gave 30 days notice that we were vacating. We moved our RV trailer to the drive way a month prior to moving to prepare it to live in. During this time the slide on the trailer extended over the grass about two feet. About two weeks before we moved both the pool pump and the sprinklers stopped working. We notified Blue Heron. Eventually right before we moved the sprinklers were fixed. The pool was never fixed.

The grass had started to turn brown in areas of the yard. However, frequent rain helped keep it mostly green while the sprinklers were not working. However the small 2 foot area that was under the RV was not getting rain, and it was not being watered because the sprinklers were not working. The area turned brown.

29 Days after moving out we contacted Blue Heron about our deposit. Per their agreement they have 30 days to return it. We were told it was being mailed that day.

When we received our deposit it was short $175. They cited we missed cleaning a ceiling fan and the damaged grass. Again the grass was not our fault as the sprinklers had not been working but the work order had been called in. Their claim that a ceiling fan was missed may be true, but where is the proof? We cleaned the home very well and it was in the best possible condition, not how it was provided to us 2 1/2 years ago.

Blue Heron's tactics may not be illegal, but their ethics are questionable. Not inspecting the home while the tenant is available, then claiming damage or uncleanliness and withholding part of the deposit 30 days after the fact make it near impossible to refute. Not honoring the advertised price and raising the rent before we signed the lease should have been the warning not to proceed.

I hope this review is helpful to others as they consider doing business with Blue Heron Realty.
