Blue Lotus Tattoo Reviews (1)

Review: On January 18, 2016 I went to Blue Lotus Tattoo in [redacted] to receive a piece from [redacted]. A compass in brown colors placed askew on my wrist. Shortly after arrival, [redacted] brought myself, my boyfriend, and his mom, back into the room to begin the tattoo. When I was trying to show her how to turn the tattoo so that it was slightly off center she was confused by what I was asking. I even took her fingers and tried to turn her hand, which didn't work so well either as she wouldn't move! Finally after getting the correct placement we sat down to begin the tattoo. For those who have had tattoo's previously (I've had 15 others) you may notice that a step was missing. Not once was my ID even checked and I never signed any kind of waiver of liability that is standard in the tattoo and piercing industry. She barely spoke as she worked and seemed distant (personality thing I guess). The end result was not of the quality that I expected nor that I would ever recommend to others. A small area of the tattoo is blown out, the lines are not all straight, and the tick marks are uneven. The color in the tattoo took very unevenly and the center of the tattoo badly scabbed – I can only assume that the needle pressure was inconsistent and areas of the tattoo overworked. I have never had a single tattoo scab on me or need retouching immediately after healing – this one does. As previously stated, not only was I not required to sign any disclosures but I was also not given any aftercare instructions. Her words were simply that I obviously knew how to take care of it because of my other tattoos. The tattoo itself was not a mistake, however the choice of shop was a HUGE mistake. From now on I am sticking with [redacted] at [redacted] – a local shop that does amazing work including fixing this one.

Because I do not live in [redacted] and was simply traveling to the area, I chose to file my dispute with the Revdex.com. My request is that I be refunded, in the form of cashiers check or original payment method if possible, in the amount of $66 ($60 for the tattoo and the courtesy $6 tip I left to be nice). Also, that the shop re-evaluate it's practices to ensure that ALL customers are given appropriate follow up and care instructions on ALL procedures.Desired Settlement: A refund of the $66 paid to the shop so that I may go to my regular tattoo artist in [redacted] to have this piece repaired (which at her shop is a minimum of $80).

Response:

I recently received a letter from the Revdex.com with a complaint from a customer that I did a tattoo on in January. I remember Ms. [redacted] and the appointment clearly. It is unfortunate Ms. [redacted] felt it necessary to file a complaint through Revdex.com and not contact me first I feel the issue could have been resolved easily. Customer satisfaction is just as important to me as the quality of artwork I let out my door. While tattooing Ms. [redacted] I did explain to her that the tattoo she was after may need some touch up work when healed, due to different factors going into it. The compass tattoo was very small so a tiny 3 liner was used to apply the tattoo which is slightly more abrasive on the skin then a shader normally would be for fill in. Also she chose a rusty brownish red tone instead of black which I also explained that would have some variation in tone when healed. At that time she seemed to be ok with it since the overall look of the tattoo she had picked out was that of a loose ink drawing that had smaller and thicker line work throughout along with ink splatter like it was drawn with a fountain ink pen. A style that has gotten popular in tattoos over the past few years. I then let her know that I offer free touchup after any tattoo I do is healed because I guarantee my work. Ms. [redacted] didn't seem to be bothered at all by my "character" while I was applying the tattoo. I do recall her taking my hands and maneuvering the pattern to the exact location she had in mind surprising me a bit but I didn't let it bother me. During the tattoo I made small talk asking where she was from, we talked about her being used to harsher weather being from up north. I asked how her and her boyfriend met since they lived so far apart and I found out she was just in for a short visit so I quietened myself allowing Ms. [redacted] and her boyfriend and his mother to chat amongst each other. Generally when a customer brings there own friends/family in the tattoo room it's for familiar distraction from the pain of the tattoo which I respect. As for the other issue of the Identification card and paper work; I recently hired on a new assistant and that problem has been addressed. We do take ID and have release forms filled out with every customer and have over the past 6 years that I have owned and operated Blue Lotus Tattoo. At the end of the tattoo Ms. [redacted] seemed happy with the outcome and I did state that she appeared to be knowledgeable in aftercare of tattoos. I asked her what she used and it was exactly what I recommended so I did leave it at that. Had there been any dissatisfaction in the overall experience I feel like there would not have been a tip left for me. I will still offer a free touchup, but with no refund. Like I said before I guarantee my work I've been a licensed tattoo artist in the state of Virginia for 10 years and have all the credentials for that and my business. I do not do any form of advertising, my business has been built solely on customer referrals and repeat customers. I am sorry for the ill feelings Ms. [redacted] has acquired towards me at some point after leaving my studio. She seemed to praise her tattoo artist back home during her visit with me so I am glad she has that back in her hometown. I will still honor the free touchup even though she may not be back in VA for a few months. Sincerely,Christinia DavieTattoo ArtistBlue Lotus Tattoo business owner
