I hired Blue Ribbon Painting & Decorating to paint the main floor, stairwell, ceilings, and exterior doors of my houseRick came to do the quote and was able to start the job about a week and a half laterHe quoted for all materials and days workedIt took days total to complete everything, but they did quite a bit of extra workEverything turned out amazing!! The house was built in and they made it look and feel like a brand new house on the insideI was billed exactly what was quoted and I found Rick and all of the workers I met to be respectful, professional, and friendlyI would recommend them to anyone who is looking to get residential painting done

Keep looking! Based on Contractor proposals presented August 25, 2011, a contract was entered into with Blue Ribbon Decorators in April 2012, to paint exteriors of townhouse units , each being story, at ***, through street at Avenue, Edmonton, AB., at a total cost for the project of $71,+ GST
Scope of work included: stain all siding, paint all stucco, paint soffits, fascia, etcpaint all iron railings, paint front entry and patio/balcony ceilings
Additionally up to but not exceeding, $was proposed as additional expense for any required board replacement, up to linear feetPer contractor memo June 14, work to commence July 30, 2012, to be completed by September 15,
Work commenced mid August
fronts and backs, as well as end stucco walls were completed before onset of winter weather whereby work was stoppedNovember 2, 2012, the Corporation was invoiced and duly paid $44,plus GST, = $46,for the work completed to date
Per memo of November 1, 2012, contractor indicated completion date of May/June 2013, whereupon balance of $27,would be due
The work to date was satisfactory to the Board, subject to a final walk through at completion of entire project
May 15, a memo was received from the contractor indicating he underestimated the cost of the project and would require an additional $on the contract, for a total project cost of $79,plus GST
The Board felt compelled to accept this increase for fear of the contractor not completing the workContractor did not arrive for work until end of August Due to weather and subsequent onset of winter temperatures, work again not completed
The work done at this stage was found by the Board to be markedly unsatisfactory
--Soffit/fascia trims were not completed
--Different color paints were oversprayed
--Railings were not completed as required
--Fuel from the mechanical lift was spilled onto roadway pavement, creating a large stain
In spring of 2014, the contractor initially promised a commencement date of June for completion of workThis was delayed via phone message to Property Manager to July 21, 2014, then inexplicably delayed again via phone message to August Due to the ongoing delays the Board decided July 17, to terminate the contract as it appeared this contractor was reluctant to complete the contract
The Board was able to secure a new contractor to complete the project at an additional cost of $to finish the remaining units as well as correct the many deficiencies and repair damaged property created by Blue Ribbon
The asphalt stain as created by the hydraulic fluid remains
Painting supplies were stored inappropriately and readily accessibleAs a result children got into and defaced the entire east perimeter of privacy fencing with black paint and caulking material, requiring additional cost due to repainting
Property damage due to the hydraulic lift: cement entry pad was broken from the weight of the liftTrees were damaged
Untidy work habits, coffee cups and other debris dropped carelessly on common propertyWorkers inappropriately used private yards for bathroom needs resulting in frustration and embarrassment for owners
Poor interpersonal skills exacerbated problems with owners

Rick and the rotating crew of Blue Ribbon Painting exhibited conduct unbecoming of professional painters on a daily basis.
We hired a professional designer to renovate and modernize our business. Complete drawings and specifications were provided to Rick K[redacted] months in advance of the project start date, and a quote was tendered.
Rick and his crew spoke exhaustively of their experience and skill. We began to tire of this quickly after their daily routine of complaining of all the money they were losing by (their own!) low bid. What was to be an approximately 10 day long job ended up taking over three (3) weeks long. Drawings hadn't been reviewed, nor had materials been ordered (due to Rick's admitted computer illiteracy, we ended up needing to order and manage items for him, at his insistence). Every single day of the job Rick and/or his crew showed up late, and often cancelled altogether, on appointed painting days due to sick time, numerous personal troubles, et cetera.
With Rick's proclaimed 40 years of experience, he should have no problem tendering and managing small projects, but his lack of attention to the project caused daily grief to my business. What was to be phased work was instead done all at once, causing major interruptions. He'd quoted on two coats of paint throughout, but complained that it was taking four or five. A painter with his experience should expect this when painting white over top of navy blue, or when painting with clear base paints.
Numerous items were missed on the drawings, so we found we needed to constantly be managing the paint crew. Finally, the panel fabric that was to be installed (the main portion of his quote) wasn't even started. Rick thought it was to be installed as he would a grasscloth wallpaper! After preparing the wall for wallpapering for days, he realized that it was to be installed on ... panels. At that point he walked off the job (we remembered him stating on multiple occasions that he'd never walked off a job...reading other negative reviews proved that to be untrue).
In all honesty, we were a bit relieved to have Rick and his crew walk off the job so that we could get professionals we trusted to finish the work he was unwilling and unable to do.

I hired Blue Ribbon Painting & Decorating to paint the main floor, stairwell, ceilings, and exterior doors of my house. Rick came to do the quote and was able to start the job about a week and a half later. He quoted 1800 for all materials and 2 days worked. It took 3 days total to complete everything, but they did quite a bit of extra work. Everything turned out amazing!! The house was built in 1970 and they made it look and feel like a brand new house on the inside. I was billed exactly what was quoted and I found Rick and all of the workers I met to be respectful, professional, and friendly. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking to get residential painting done.

Keep looking! Do not hire these painters.

Beyond unprofessional despite the whining and professing of 44 years painting experience by owner Rick K[redacted]. I understand that jobs can run long at times but we were quoted 5 days and 5 painters. We are beyond three weeks, still more work to do and in the middle of a very uncomfortable employee issue that the company owner has made our problem. Rick placed one painter in our home, that had not even been working for him long enough to receive his first paycheck, and left him in out home, with our keys, for days.

Rick did not supervise the job, [redacted]

Unbelievable. Stay away. [redacted]
