This company advertised, and verbally told me, that they had rentals available. I applied for one house, then was told two days later that it was rented out before I even applied. This should not have been allowed to happen as I had to pay $50 in application fees for a product they no longer had. They transferred my application to another house and later told me that, again, the product was rented out before I even applied. When I asked for a refund due to me attempting to rent something that they did not actually have available, they told me that the second house was actually rented to somebody else because they didn’t want to wait to get the information they were requesting from a third party. I paid for a determination of whether or not I could rent a specific property that was either not available or they could not be bothered to collect their own information for. This is poor customer service, but mostly I want my $50 back since the initial, advertised as available, house I paid to request to rent Was not actually available and they don’t think that is a good reason to refund someone.

Sorry for the late response to our case #***. With all the new release information about COVID-19 we’ve been busy! In regards to the complaint about returning the application fee for her and her cosigner, that money was used to process their applications. By running their credit and time spent reviewing past residency and employment history. At the time she submitted her application she was told that there were other applicants for some of the properties she was wanting. I explained that we process applications in the order they are received and it is first come first serve if more than one applicant is approved at the same time. The first property was rented the day after she put in her application. We agreed to move her application to her second choice which also had other applications on it. The second property was rented four days before her application was completed. We were waiting to hear back from her employer that she was just starting with to confirm employment. Also, to hear back from a Doctor confirming the need of an emotional support animal so she wouldn’t be charged extra fees for that animal. We got in touch with her once her application was complete. At that time we offered her her third choice, but she was already upset and decided to no longer do business with us. From start to finish her application took several days to complete.

Also I have decided to lose money and refund one of the application fees.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I was not told that applications were taken on a first come, first serve basis. I was also told that the houses were rented out prior to me submitting my application. When I brought this up to the company, they reascended that and told me that they did not mean that but instead the homes were still available. This company is not consistent with their responses. Additionally, they initially contacted my employer AFTER they rented out the second house I was interested in. Their wait for my employers response to get back to me is irreverent as the houses I was interested in and applied for were not available when I applied and thus not available when they contacted my employer. This company also had a letter from my doctor showing my need for an Emotional Support Animal. They had the proof their application said they required. Additional time spent on that should not be held against me, especially since I was told the homes were rented out before I applied. The product I spent my money on was not available. I specifically asked for two homes in the application for my background / credit report. That time and money should not have been spent for any other homes than the two I identified on my application. Since those two were not available, this report should not have been run.
