Bluebird Montessori Schools

We are filing a complaint against Bluebird Montessori Schools in Toronto as a result of its extortionate and opportunistic withdrawal policy.

Having no success with any of the multiple daycares we had been waitlisted on for almost two years, we registered our infant son with Bluebird on September 21, 2017 with the intention of attending in February 2018. We withdrew that registration just a couple of months later on November 29, 2017, as we are moving out of the city. We have provided Bluebird with two full calendar months notice of our cancellation, as it requests. We understood that cancellation would mean a loss of our $1,500.00 deposit, however, Bluebird is trying to extort $1,950.00, a month of tuition, on top of that as a secondary 'penalty'.

Bluebird should not be allowed to extort this second 'penalty', which is particularly onerous, and was not specifically called out to us upon registration. If Bluebird wanted to be honest about the full penalty, it would have called out the deposit as being $3,450.00, rather than hiding it within various contractual jargon. It is well-known that child care in the City of Toronto is in high demand and short supply, and the market dictates that Bluebird will have no trouble filling a vacated spot with a couple of months notice. Its principal and owner, ***, admitted to us in an email that Bluebird's spots are 'very limited? and in 'high demand.? In other words, they should have no trouble filling this vacated spot. Yet, it is trying to extort from us this secondary 'penalty? without any actual proof of loss. In all likelihood, Bluebird will fill this spot and double charge for it.

Bluebird is looking to pocket $1,950.00 from our family on top of the $1500.00 deposit, while providing us with nothing, just because they think they can in Toronto's climate of high-demand childcare. This type of business practice is highly unethical and we are seeking a refund of the $1,950.00 'penalty'.
