Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:The owner’s response differs from what she told me during our visitSpecifically, she is now claiming that “not all patients who require surgery will also need work with a myofunctional therapist (physical therapist for the tongue).” However during our visit, she clearly painted a very different picture, that speech therapy is a required prerequisite for this procedureAnd she left me with no other options in the endI came in because I agreed to a $procedure, and instead got a bait and switch for extra services that I did not agree toI think this business is dishonest and misleading towards patientsThey purposely withhold important information on the phone beforehand, so that they could charge patients with unnecessary examination to extract more money Sincerely, [redacted] ***

I am rejecting this response because:The owner’s response differs from what she told me during our visit. Specifically, she is now claiming that “not all patients who require surgery will also need work with a myofunctional therapist (physical therapist for the tongue).” However during our visit, she clearly painted a very different picture, that speech therapy is a required prerequisite for this procedure. And she left me with no other options in the end. I came in because I agreed to a $400 procedure, and instead got a bait and switch for extra services that I did not agree to. I think this business is dishonest and misleading towards patients. They purposely withhold important information on the phone beforehand, so that they could charge patients with unnecessary examination to extract more money.
Sincerely,

Tongue tie is a common name used for a condition known as ankyloglossus. It represents a shorter than normal attachment of the tongue to the floor of the mouth. Tongue ties exist in many degrees of severity ranging from minimal impact on quality of life to a significant impact on eating, sleeping,...

and speaking. The tongue itself is a collection of muscles specialized in different movements (e.g. forward – backward, up- down, and side to side). When it is stuck or restricted in a direction, then it develops strength in other dimensions to compensate. At times the compensation of other muscles can balance the deficiency or restriction and there are concerns for the patient. Other times, the restriction is quite debilitating and can have significant impact. Because the tongue is a muscle, other factors that contribute to muscle weakness can contribute to the presentation of the patient.   Releasing the restrictive frenum or a frenulectomy is a surgical procedure. As in rehabilitation following other surgeries, physical therapy for tongue may be indicated at times to provide support for the tongue to learn new movements and strengthening areas that have been weak due to lack of use or restriction. Frenum diagnosis and treatment is in no way a cookie cutter field where one size fits all. Not all patients who have a tongue tie require surgery and not all patients who require surgery will also need work with a myofunctional therapist (physical therapist for the tongue). Treatment is individualized based on patient needs and treatment outcomes. Professional referrals are made to match patient needs with appropriate services in the best interest of the patient and family for long term success.   An examination fee is included in the tongue tie assessment.   In this situation, there was no payment made at the time of service. The request for payment moved through the normal channels without response from the guarantor.
