Irregularities in amount owed
I was notified via phone today that I would be unable to keep my follow up appt with my surgeon, Dr. [redacted] until my balance was paid in full. I explained to the young lady that I received the statement in December 2013 after I had been treating on a weekly basis with the doctor and that I would gladly pay my account in full. The bill stated that the balance was $98.40. She proceeded to state that my balance was $582.75. I had the bill I received so I was furious needless to say. I spoke to multiple individuals whom stated that I was billed repeatedly for this amount and since it had not been paid, they were adding their so called "courtesy adjustment" back to my account and it had been sent to a collection agency. This courtesy adjustment had been made to my account due to the fact that they stated the Surgery Center was in network with my insurance company upon my asking. In fact they are out of network and adjust you fee to an adjusted amount as if they actually were a member of the network. During the time period of these so called statements being sent, I received only one bill previously and it was for the amount which had not been courtesy adjusted. I received my one and only bill in Early December. The bill Date listed on it was 11/21/13. Due to me seeing my doctor on a weekly basis for injections, I at no time was informed of the balance on my account. Therefore, I assumed that the account was adjusted and possibly combined with the doctors fee that I paid when I was told of the balance on another visit. Now the office is requiring that I pay the entire balance of $582.75 in order to see my physician. I told them that I. Would gladly pay the $98.40 tomorrow when I was in the office for my appt. but I was informed that was no longer the balance and I would not be able to keep my appt unless at least half of it was paid. Therefore, I had to cancel my appt.
