We have tried to accommodate the ***s personal situation over the years. My ***, who also knew the family for many years, rented them a unit initially in Feb for $/ month (our established “discounted “ rate for a 10xunit was $55/mo). They paid monthly
through Oct when they stopped paying rent. We knew the ***s were going through some personal difficulties and opted to give them time. After over a year passed, we thought they abandoned their unit but in November they paid $on a $balance due.The ***s did not contact us again until February with a balance due of $1500. They paid $and we eliminated the $balance still owed. They left their items in the unit.In July 2015, they needed a 2nd unit to allow them to sort though their belongings and proceeded to switch to that unit, B20. See attached agreement. We did receive a payment from the ***s of $in Oct and then did not hear from them again until March 2017. At that time, with a balance due of $they paid $and again we eliminated the $balance as noted as a note on their 7/23/agreement.We did learn in mid that the unit had been broken into. The lock had been cut and put back on so to hide that fact for months after. Not having heard from the ***s since the previous year, we assumed the unit abandoned and they were not contacted.As for their items being affected by moisture, our units are not climate controlled and no items can remain perpetually unaffected in a storage unit not climate controlled. Our agreement which they signed clearly points this out.Through all of this all they had to do was call the storage phone # at any time which forwards to my cellphone. They did not.Oddly we understand the ***s position but feel that we have bent over backwards to accommodate them. We have given them reduced rate, time and additional financial discounts unlike any other customer.We wish them all the best.One thing I failed to mention earlier is that it has been our policy to have customers pay by check, money order, or cash by either US mail or dropping it off in the mail slot in our office door. We have had very few requests for credit card acceptance and dropped that years ago. As I mentioned earlier I am always available by phone and willing to schedule an appointment at a convenient time should someone want or need to meet. We are also in the process of setting up and new management / payment system and have subscribed to an online self-storage management system, *** Storage Solutions, and will be transitioning to that in the first quarter 2018. Their website will give you details of their services and I look forward for the added benefits it will provide.
