We hired Blue Star in August for a basic kitchen remodelWe gave them a check for $16,on August 5,We did not hear back from them until we began to email the company as to when they would be starting our projectThe project was started on November 21st,The project has not been completed and the work has been substandardThere has been multiple issues from damaged cabinets, multiple delays, a pipe cut and a flooded finished basement while these have been resolved but it has taken multiple phone callsThe current situation is that our kitchen remains unfinished : the electric is incompleted and the wires have been live for the months and are sticking our of the wall with painters tape wrapped around them, the grout work on the backsplash is cracking and the tile is uneven in place and different colors in other areas, the hardware to finish the project has not been ordered and the owner has changed our completion date multiple times and the company has been poor in com

Mark is your "go to" person for projects big or smallHe's always friendly, helpful and efficientHe listens well and is creative with ideas and recommendationsWe recommend him highly

I was not aware that I had to tell the client of a backlogA start date was never part of the contract. The new project manager was/is myself (owner)As I want to wrap this up for them, I have taken over the duties to do soIt was I that was coming out with some of our guysI was to be out there working, just as I had done a couple times previousI understand the home has been open for usWe were going to be completed by the end of the week, with the hardware being in questionI was not aware that Mrand MrsX were remodeling contractors that know how long something may take to do I also point out that they had no idea how many workman were going to be there to complete thingsWhere did I ever say that Mrand MrsX "do not understand the service industry"? I mentioned once that "hiccups" get magnified in a service oriented businessA second mention of service oriented business was referencing how employees don't always show up for workAnother contractor stating something is "substandard" is their opinionThey are not trade council personnel who have the education and ability to make that callThis could very well beI did not look into/refer to the receptacles when addressing the wiringIf this is correct, it is absolutely wrong to have them not button back up yet! It is also correct that the island does not have a receptacleYes, it does need oneI could only assume that our designer missed that fact and did not design with a receptacle thereThat is wrongA receptacle needs to be addedI did address this with MrX and told him not to make a claim on his insurance as it was our workman's fault for cutting the wrong pipeWe did repair the damage as notedI do not know where the figure of 27,being paid comes fromOur records indicate that a 16,and a 10,payment were madeAgain, as Mrand MrsX are not in the building field, I am unsure as to where they know that what they have paid so far "more than covers work completed and materials"It does notIt may have covered work completed and materials before the countertops were fabricated and installed, but not any longer. OKThat has been addressed OKThat has been addressed

I am rejecting this response because:
1,) We were not notified of any backlog2.) New project manager was never assigned in fact the project manager was supposed to be out on March 15,when we rec'd a call that no one was coming3.) Our home has been "open" to Blue Star since November 21,They were told via email that the project needed to be completed my the end of this week including the grinding out and the re-grouting of the backsplash which would not have been finished by March 17th 4.) Contrary to Blue Star's assertion that we do not understand the "service industry" is invalid as we ourselves are business owners of a very successful service industry that depends on completion of contracts on time 5) The work is "substandard" according the separate construction we brought in to evaluate the work done to date6) We had an electrician come in to check on the work completed and the outlets that are hanging out of the grouted backsplash are "live"If someone were to touch the wires they would receive a shockThere are children in the home as Blue Star is awareAlso, the electrician and the construction companies we spoke with stated that there should be an electric outlet in the island for it to be codeThere is not an outlet or an area for an outletBlue Star did not mention the need for an outlet or addressed the issue at anytime7) A "hiccup" included a water line that was cut that flooded our kitchen and finished basementWe were unable to get a hold of the project manager or the owner so had to file a claim with our home owner's insurance to have the damage evaluatedBlue Star did repair the damage in their own time8) We have paid $27,for the work done to dateWe are certain that this amount more than covers work completed and materialsWe feel that we have been more than patient in accepting the prolonged remodel and "hiccups".9) Blue Star was denied access after they stated that they would be at our home on Wednesday after a two and half week break then called on Wednesday 3/15/morning to say they would not be outAt that point they had failed to meet their promises10) While we did contract with Blue Star in August they never alluded to or stated that they had a backlogWhen we reached out in October and were told they would get back to us on a day and tine to start the project we stated that they had known we wanted the job completed by the end of summer and that we'd happily take back our deposit to hire another companyThey again did not mention their tremendous back logWe are willing to walk away with all liens and no further payment
Sincerely,

As Mrand MrsX identified, we did sign an agreement on August 5th with a deposit of 16,receivedYes, it was November before work commencedThere never was any conversation as to when the project would start as we had a backlog of work to finish as this project was "put in line". The
job still remains open as we have now been denied access to the site to finish the projectWe had our share of "hiccups" along the way as any business could experienceUnfortunately, they get magnified in a service oriented businessWe handled those issues as they arose and took care of everything that needed to beThe claim of substandard work is a farceQuality of work is dependent of the technician performing the workWe had some work that was not of the quality level BlueStar Construction would expectWe handled those employees and corrected any deficiencies in the quality, that is with the exception of the last one, as we are not allowed access to the jobsiteWe have addressed the fact that we need to correct something and have scheduled to be thereAgain, Mrand MrsX want to terminate our agreement in lieu of us taking care of the issueWe have also replaced the Project Manager for their project, as he was not performing up to par either. Some of the issues have been with product from the manufacturerWith Mrand MrsX's permission and agreement, we correct those manufacturer issues in an effort to save time on the project. The electrical wiring is one of the things to finish, of which are not "live".Communication with Mrand MrsX has been poor, again we have handled that through the replacement of the Project Manager.Scheduling of men to the jobsite is always subject to the individualWhen we receive a phone call that an employee is sick, in the hospital, car broke down, etc., all of us suffer in that changes then occur and we all sufferWe do not have employees sitting on the bench in the office waiting for someone to call in not available for work so they can spring into actionWe, by no means, like when this happens, but again it is a function of a service oriented businessI personally have offered and stepped in to "fill in" and handle completion of the project. As I feel for Mrand MrsX, I understandI am sure that I, as the consumer, would probably feel the same wayWe at BlueStar Construction Group can only apologize at this point and get men onsite to finishWe are only a couple of days away from the project being completed. As Mrand MrsX indicate they are "walking away from BlueStar", that is certainly their prerogative, but there is the matter of a fiduciary responsibility of themselves to BlueStarThe value of services performed and material/product on site, received by them, is what we are asking for to be paidWe have left "money on the table" for the items that are unfinishedAs I would much rather finish the project for them, I understand it is their decisionI cannot issue a lien waiver for "work and materials already completed" as I have not received monetary compensation for said services and materialsWhen additional payment is tendered, I would be glad to issue appropriate lien waivers

I contacted Blue Star to install outside lights on my homeThey were recommended by
a friendI was impressed by their professionalism, getting the job done, solving another problem, and offering a suggestion to repair a problem with a newly built garden shedThey installed shelving in the shed and did it all with a good attitude and took everything awayGreat clean up!
So impressed I am having them do an entire and extensive kitchen remodel
They have experience and a great follow-up

My husband posted a job request on a website for having windows added/modified to our homeBlue star construction group contacted us and came to our home to give us a quoteMy husband got a quote from one other company but ultimately decided to use blue star construction because they quoted a time frame for the project date of to weeks from signing the contractHe signed a contract with them and they deposited our $deposit on May 29, Based on their quoted completion timeframe, the project should have been done in JuneHowever, they came to measure for windows and they said window manufacture would take weeksWe were annoyed with the increased time frame but were understandingMy husband went and picked out which *** windows we wanted orderedBlue star said that the windows he choose were more than what our window allowance was so we would have to pay the differenceMy husband then called ***, the window manufacturer and they said the windows were less tha

Although the length of time Mark needed to get to my fence staining was longer than I wanted (his company was very busy in the fall), I received no other estimates in the meantime. I'm very glad he was able to accommodate me (and didn't forget about me!), and his coworker did a good job in just 2 hours. I'm not sure about the cost, but I have a feeling it's in line with the going rate.

I have used Blue Star Construction for several jobs at my home and have always been pleased with their work. They go about the job in a professional manner and I was impressed by the way they cleaned up the area before leaving for the day, even if they had to return to finish the job. I would recommend them to others.

They do good work, very professional and very dependable. Stands behind everything they do.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
It is the contractors responsibility and due diligence to notify the client of a time frame and to provide a work schedule. The company has not net their end of the contract in a timely manner. The workmanship in question was looked over by different contractors who are certified. I am sure that Mr. [redacted] feels he has done everything correctly. We disagree and feel that we have gone above and beyond to work with Blue Star. We have accepted the many "hiccups" and failures and less than satisfactory communication, excuses and lengthy time for completion. I am including on of the last responses we received from Blue Star that addresses the lack of knowledge regarding customer service. I am also attaching the multiple work schedules that show completion that has not occurred including the failure to order the hardware which should have been in for install before the last date of completion scheduled for 2/14/207 .The kitchen remained unfinished. We do not want Blue Star back as we have given them ample time to complete this project. We do  not want another or two or three to go by before we have a functioning kitchen. Mr. [redacted] was correct in his having "only" received $26,000 for this job. We have given them more than enough of our time and our money. Without client knowledge of the construction industry, I can see where someone may not understand when adjustments have to be made to many aspects of the company; employees sick, weather, product availability, etc. “Promises” sometimes have to be adjusted.  Any quotes you obtain will be your responsibility to accommodate, as you are terminating the agreement between us. The fiduciary responsibility of monies and project to date are identified in the previous email below. Monies due to us will need to be received in our office by the end of the day March 24th, 2017.  BlueStar Construction prides itself in providing quality workmanship and services/materials. Sometimes, do things happen that may not be 100%, absolutely! The sign of a quality contractor is if that contractor steps up and takes care of the matter. We have done that. We have “made good” on any quality issues. We have gone above and beyond that level in performing “extra” work that we were not contracted to do as well. We are now not being entitled to return to fix some items identified that need attention. That responsibility cannot lie on us if we are not allowed access to the jobsite. All workmanship and services/products provided have been of the utmost quality.  ere the response I mentioned:
Sincerely,

Mark Kaufmann, the owner of BlueStar, is very dependable and will do what he promises.

We asked BlueStar for a bid in order to compare their price with other companies we were looking at. A BlueStar employee came out and supposedly took extensive measurements. The BlueStar employee told us that they would require $1500 for their designers to prepare drawings in order for them to determine the amount of materials required in order for them to come up with a bid. After BlueStar sent us an e-mail saying that they had gone over everything with their designer, we picked up the documents at the BlueStar offices. The documents were filled with errors that favored BlueStar in determining the amount of materials needed. It also included a contract that they wanted for us to sign that day. We checked with an attorney and it indeed was a binding contract. Be forewarned. Double and triple check whatever BlueStar provides you.

It was an awesome experience. Mark and his crew were nothing but professional. Would recommend to anyone. Great company!!

Mark is very professional with his work. From accurate estimates to work that is beautifully done, to cleaning up after he finishes, he provides a great experience. He has done several jobs for us and we will hire him again any time we need work done at our house.
