Boat Bumz scheduled my wife and I for sailing lessons, failed to contact when unable to deliver, and after a week still has not refunded my deposit.On 13 Jun 16 I arranged for sailing lessons for my wife and I with [redacted] School ([redacted]) in New Bern NC. My credit card was charged $430 for the 25% deposit. The classes were scheduled for 22 to 24 July. [redacted] also said he would be sending us books to our home in Ohio so we would have them before coming to NC. I made sure he knew we were leaving 16 July because of my scuba diving at Morehead City from 18 to 21 July.We left for NC without receiving the books.Since I had not heard back from [redacted] about time and place to meet for class, on Monday 18 July I attempted to contact him, no answer, so I left a message. Same on Wednesday 20 July.On Thursday 21 July, since I had not heard from him, I cancelled my dives for the day (no refund at that point, $130 lost), and my wife and I drove to New Bern to find the [redacted]., Since [redacted] had described where the marina was, I started there. I found the marina office, and from the man there was able to contact another sailing instructor, Mr [redacted], who was able to get me in contact with [redacted]. Finally now, the day before the scheduled lesson were to start, [redacted] told me he was in [redacted] and couldn't get back to do the lessons, so we would have to cancel, and either reschedule or work a refund. I elected the refund option since we have to get back to Ohio and don't know when we will get back to NC.On 25 July, my credit card still did not show any evidence of a refund in progress, so I tried again to contact [redacted]. Again no answer to calls, left message. I have not heard back from him. Repeated this on 27 July. I have 2 numbers for him, the first is the one I used to schedule the lessons with him (found on the webpage for [redacted] School): (XXX) XXX XXXX; the second is the one [redacted] was able to give me that then resulted in the contact where he said we would have to cancel: (XXX) XXX XXXX.At this point I have just 2 options, a Revdex.com complaint, and disputing the charge with my credit card company. I am attempting the Revdex.com complaint first. My damages from this episode are:Deposit for lessons: $430Lost day diving for lessons: $130Lost day diving for tracking down Place of business of [redacted]: $130Mileage 1 round trip Morehead Cityto New Bern to track down location and time for lesson52 miles: $28.08 (at IRS rate of 0.54/mile)Desired SettlementAt a minimum, I want the refund [redacted] said he would provide for cancelling the lessons without notifying us of that.I also believe he is morally obligated to cover my costs incurred as a result of having to track him down (in [redacted]!) when he had not contacted us with lesson dxetails by the day before they were to start (I missed 2 days of diving that were unrefundable because cancelled them, not the dive shop - I cancelled them because of the issues with Boat Bumz, aka E[redacted] School at 130 per dive, a further $260). In addition, contacting him required a round trip between Morehead City and New Bern.
