Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2015/09/15) */
I'll first start my response with I did not knowingly sell an illegal car nor did I lie to said customerDuring the sale of the car I pointed out the window tint saying it made the car a little more sporty, never once brought up that it is or
isn't legal, mainly because that's not something I would ever say because I don't know if it is or isn'tWe've since read the statute here and everyone at the dealership now knows that if we take in a car that looks like the tint is too dark we have it removed immediatelyOf course we would remove the tint, we've told the customer this, I've tried to set it up numerous times and the response I get is "I work everyday and won't be able to." I've made it known to the customer numerous that the removing of the tint would take no more than a day and we'd be able to provide her with transportation to and from work if need beWe're going to do this at our own cost trying to help the customer resolve this issueKeep in mind her "ticket" was a fix-it-ticket allowing her x amount of days to get this issue resolved which I've been trying to do for herFact of the matter is we'd still like to help her on this situationIf tint is the major concern my boss has stated he would pay for legal tint to be installed somewhere here in town
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 11, 2015/09/15) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Both my daughter and I specifically remember him stating it was a legal tint, because we all laughed about itSomething along the lines of "this one is sportier and the tint is even legal" this was when he was showing us several different carsThat is why we were so shocked when she was pulled overIt never even crossed our minds that it wasn't legal This is the first I have heard of them being willing to put tint on window at their costIf they are willing to pay for replacement with legal tinting it will go a long way towards helping this situationAs to having contact with customer, yes he had contacted her but at that time had a disfunctioning phone and had to replace it at which point lost his informationShe has since been contacted by him and she is working on setting up the removal

Dear [redacted]: Mr [redacted] was in the dealership multiple times to look at the vehicle he purchased and also took the vehicle to show someone during one of his visits.  He was informed verbally and in writing that the truck is as is with no warranty.  We did agree to fix a concern...

before he took delivery and did so by replacing the oil sender unit.  The retail book value of the truck is $11325 according to NADA.  Mr [redacted] made us an offer after his multiple visits and research of $8500 and we accepted his offer based on the condition of the vehicle.  The $9185 he claims to have paid is including taxes and fees.  We did offer to do any additional repairs at a discounted rate and that offer is still open otherwise the truck was sold as is and the agreed upon work was completed.  I do have a copy of the signed "as is" buyers guide, NADA book value and due bill stating we would replace the oil pressure sending unit with nothing else promise or owed to customer after the sale available if you need to review them.   Sincerely, Todd [redacted]Sales Manager

I am rejecting this response because: The book value of this truck is based off such a truck in CLEAN condition. The condition of this vehicle POOR. They jerry-rigged alot, including but not limited to: the passenger rear door inside handle, the broken center console lock/latch, the driver door is ready to fall off. They also led to me claiming that they "fixed the oil smell problem by replacing the oil sending unit" which is a bold faced lie. It smells worse and worse every day. The salesman also told me the tires were "new", they're below half tread. The sales sign said the gas mileage is supposed to 16-19 mpg average. I get 11 in town and 13 to 15 down the highway. According to NHTSA The truck never received the fix to a recall of the driver airbag inflator housing. NHTSA recall number 15V-313. The speakers on the driver side of the vehicle are all blown out, which will cost me approx $300 to have fixed, they tried to hide it by setting the stereo balance all the way to the passenger side. The fact is, they lied. About alot. It's gonna me a ton to fix all these issues. And he lied, I did NOT show it to anyone other than my fiancée, who was with me. If nothing else, I feel I way overpaid. The only way to fix the engine is to replace it. Which will cost me a large chunk of money.

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2016/02/17) */
The vehicle is 16 years old and the consumer was made aware that the vehicle was being sold as is and had every opportunity to inspect the vehicle prior to making a purchase decision. This is documented on the paperwork signed at time of...

purchase. I spoke to the consumer and offered to take the vehicle back in on trade. Apparently he has chosen this route instead. I would question the credibility of the mechanic who says this car could "buckle" at any moment. I have yet to see that happen to any vehicle in any condition in my 25 years in this business.
