Review: hired to lay flagstone patio-walkway had used his services in past and was satisfied with the results. [redacted] previously had put in dc granite and it was suppose to compact done and be very firm it was not.(Found out 2 days ago it should have been sprayed with a glue that has been out for about 10 yrs .It tracked all everywhere there was no way to sweep or blow it clean. I call [redacted] and told him I wanted to redo the area and we dicussed various options and I decided that I would like flagstone.I brought the materials and hired [redacted] .He said it was all right to lay them over the dc granite and use the existing of bender board for edging ,within 2 days after the job was completed cracks appeared along the bender board and around some of the stone, one large stone moved when stepped on .He return and said that concrete edging would need to replace the bender board with concrete edging which was done, within days of finishing the job cracks appeared in the same places, all together he attemped 3 different times to repair the cracks by simply pouring mortar in the cracks.after the last attempt I wanted to see if by removing the old mortar and putting new mortar in if that would stop the cracking and he told me it would cost $500.00 more do and I told him I was not paying him any more.I did finally ask him at that time if he had ever done this type of job before job before and he walk away and said he would be in touch.He has not answered any phone calls. I have been getting estimates about repairing it and have been told that he did not do the job correctly.Flagstone on fairly large areas have be laid over sm rock with rebar and then concrete is poured and the stones are then laid on top this keeps them from moving .but first all the dc granite must be removed down in to the dirt.Estimates are from $3000.00 for just the labor to 14,500.for complete job.I was not wise enough to talk to other contractors who are more skilled or I would have know about the expense and what steps need to be done .Desired Settlement: I would like the flagstones removed and placed on pallets ,all mortar still onstones removed and all the dc granite removed and taken away.I want the expense of doing the job correct split 50-50 between us.Plus any flagstones broken in removal replaced.
