Review: The company is a gym, and has a term contract for membership. Part of the membership allows members to suspend their membership. Due to a change in my commute, I suspended my membership until I could get some time to start going again. After only a few months, they began billing me again for membership - with no notice. After a few months I noticed the recurring charge, and I was dissatisfied, so I called to cancel my membership. I was told that I needed to pay a $100 cancellation fee. I said that since I had suspended my membership, and that they had resumed it without notice, I had already paid more than $100, and they could apply that to my cancellation. They said that I'd need to speak to the owner, who was unavailable. I called back a few times, to no avail, and I left messages. After over a month of failing to get a response, I put a stop payment on the recurring charge, and left them a message informing them that I'm stopping my membership.
Several months elapsed, and now they are pursuing collections against me, saying that I didn't cancel by using a certified letter. I received no updates or notices prior to receiving the call from a collections agent, claiming that I now owe more then $400 (which can't possibly be right).Desired Settlement: I'd like my membership cancelled and the collections agent called off, I also want any additional amount that they are claiming dropped.
