The technician who came out to install a new part on my water furnace was friendly, knowledgeable, and had the part installed in just a few minutes. But it took months to receive an invoice, and when I did it was ridiculously high. It took many more weeks to get a response to my inquiry. They did reduce the invoice some but never admitted to price gouging, which is what they were trying to do. I will definitely not use them again, and would not recommend them. There are other companies in the area who are more reasonably priced and responsive. I should have done my research before contacting these guys.
Who knew heating could be this sublime? Fast, thorough, high-quality work and new ducting that came in far below the city's allowable leakage limit, all making for an incredibly comfortable house, room to room, even during weather in the 'teens. We had become used to our old leaky ducts, so when the gas/AC unit conked out, we had to replace it, and the change was remarkable.
We recently had a problem with our (new) furnace and it was the day before a very large snowstorm hit. We needed someone quick and neighbors recommended Boer Brothers. They came out that night and said they could fix the problem, but that we could NOT use our warranty because that would require ordering the part, etc. Even with 12 inches of snow coming, they were not open to any other arrangement to get our heat back except us paying a large fee to fix it. With small children at home, we felt like we had no choice but to do it.
I've learned since that what they charged was MUCH higher than it should have been. I consider it price gouging given the impending storm. I would recommend not using them. I contacted them after the storm passed and asked them if they would be willing to do anything to make this better, such as getting the warranty part now that the storm was over. They refused and I definitely won't be using them again.
I am so sorry that you had a less than optimal experience with Boer
Brothers and you feel that your cost was unfair and we were unwilling to
reduce that cost or to find a better alternative. I remember that one of
our best technicians had come about an issue with a gas valve. We were not
the ones who installed this system but we are always happy to help with
parts warranties from other manufactures. We did have a snowstorm
approaching so we were anxious to get you service before it arrived and
worked late I believe to make sure you and your family had heat.
As I recall we had given you the option to wait for the warranty part
which was only available from that manufacturer in several days time which
would have resulted in a lower cost for you, or to have us install a
universal type part immediately which would not be covered under you
manufacture warranty. Unfortunately, coming and installing a universal
part, returning and uninstalling it and then reinstalling the warranty gas
valve when it came in would have had a couple of issues. It would have
involved significantly more labor and thus not really a cost savings for
you and it would have resulted in a used part that we would not feel
comfortable installing in another customers home.
You did indeed contact us and request a lower price. After much
consideration we felt that we had operated in good faith, given the best
options available and charged a fair price for the work. We are very sorry
that you feel differently and we wish you the best moving forward.
