I became a customer of BofI's smaller company Bank X (which is almost exactly the same bank, in essence, with a focus on simplicity) out of a frustration with Wells Fargo and a desire to simplify my banking experience Through all the research I did on the company, I had very high hopes and was excited to get started Unfortunately, my experience was quite unlike the "on paper" version of the bank I opened my account over the phone with Alma Tornel, and requested to open a new Bank X account She was very sweet and very nice, but I had to repeat literally everything I said to her as if she wasn't listening or just had a hard time multitasking After a good hour on the phone, she incorrectly opened a checking account with Bank of Internet, and NOT Bank X, which caused quite a lot of confusion and took a few days to get resolved
Then, almost immediately afterwards, my account was compromised due to fraudulent activity I should note that I was still so new with this bank that I didn't even have my debit card yet, so somehow my brand new account number had already been breached Needless to say I became quite apprehensive to stay with this bank, so I closed my account
I do have to say that while everyone I spoke to at Bank X/BofI was always very nice and pleasant, I never once got a call back within the promised time and had to pester them to get anything done I felt bad about that, because I felt that I was being as patient as I could, but they really do seem a bit unorganized and sloppy It was an disappointing experience overall

Good internet banking, with a ponderous website navigationbut it is functional
Good phone support Monday - Friday during business hoursIF you need ANY phone support or a response via secure message on their secure website, basically ANY support during evenings or weekends - then forget about itYou will wait on automated hold hell until your phone battery dies, and their secure message will send you an automated message saying they'll get back to you
For credit/debit card services support, this is unacceptable! Support must be available 24/7/BofI, fix this if you want to grow into a real bank

Horrific experience. Opened up a bank X account and still have yet to receive a debit card in the mail (it's been well over two weeks) called to see if they would cancel that card coming or send a replacement overnight for the inconvenience and was told it would be a $50 fee lol. This "bank" is a total joke. Also was told on the phone that they thought I had already received the card so another representative had activated it for use!? What?.. If you're reading this wondering if you should open up an account with them, don't. You will find zero information or reviews regarding their practice and all I can say is it's been a sketchy experience with them. Closing account today and moving on.
