The phone conversation with the owner never considered my suggestion for re-education as an option The concern was on the routes being set and that they didn't have drivers to accommodateHad the phone conversation focused on the driver's poor decision and not on staffing it would have put me more at easeThe first reply should have focused on the process that will help prevent this from repeating not on trying to make excuses or minimizing (they were just across the street )A follow up phone call emphasizing the training and plans for future training would have reassured us that children's safety is top priority not staffing needs and allowed me to honestly communicate this to my children to relieve any anxieties they have about riding the bus I ask for an empathetic approach.

During the first few weeks of school there can be many changes with routes, students and other details Unfortunately, one of our route drivers made a mistake by assuming a few students did not belong on his route The previous day there were a number of students that ended up on this
drivers route bus due to no fault of his The driver did let the students off the bus at the school he thought they belonged at (across the street), which unfortunately was not correct Despite the fact that this was an honest mistake by the driver we have instructed him to handle and manage this situation differently going forward

We take driving seriously and we have an extensive training program for drivers On occasion drivers may not follow the rules of the road and as we become aware of these issues we will address them directly with the driver Unfortunately, with the information provided we cannot isolate
this particular driver However, as we have routing safety meetings this will be addressed

To look into this further I need the students name and route number.

We have provided the driver with additional training.  In addition, we used this as an example for other drivers.  Lastly, we have quarterly safety and training meetings where this will be discussed as well.
