On August 16, 2014, Bookman's on East Speedway, Tucson, advertised it was holding a movie showing of an animated feature and also advertised it would be providing free ice cream. I have been a Bookman's customer. I did some browsing in the store before heading to the event. The organization of the program wasn't merely bad, it was insulting and a disservice to the public. Before the stated starting time, Bookman's had already given out the very few ice cream treats it bothered to stock. There was no seating except the floor, so adults accompanying children had to stand. Admittedly there weren't that many adults; it looked like people just dropped off hordes of unsupervised children. The store did not require adults to accompany the tots. It was impossible to hear any of the soundtrack because the staff took no measures whatever to encourage quiet or to get the numerous children to seat themselves. The viewing area, moreover, was in a mere clearing on the sales floor, not in a room. My 3-year-old was stepped on by an older, bratty child, so we had to leave, both because my kid was crying inconsolably and because there was no point trying to listen to the movie soundtrack in the middle of the pandemonium. I think Bookmans should be ashamed of themselves for such a poor and unsafe job of organizing what was supposed to be a public event. Their managing staff must have rocks where their brains should be.
