In October of 2013 we contacted Borchardt Builders with a work request to rehab art pillars in Kosciuszko Park that Borchardt had erected many years ago (and erected well). [redacted] gave us a quote and we applied for a grant to the Neighborhood Improvement Development Corp. to cover the building costs. When we got the grant at the end of October we informed [redacted] and said we only had until December 31, 2013 to complete the work. He said it would not be a problem. All during late October and throughout November we received notices from him that he was postponing the work. The last postponement was for December 1. He did not show up on December 1. Throughout the month of December we frantically called and emailed him, letting him know the grant was about to expire. He never once returned our calls or emails (over 20). On the last day of December we contacted another contractor who was willing to come and try to complete the work, if we were available to help him. We ended up working outside in below zero weather all day and night to complete it, so as not to lose the grant.
