***, Re: ** ***
*** *** *** Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the complaint filed by *** *** *** with the Revdex.com of San Diego, Orange and Imperial Counties*** *** began the Medical Assistant Program at UEI College in San Marcos on March 18, and graduated on November 30, 2015. In her complaint, *** *** alleges the following:“First of I would like to say that the education that they are providing students is only going to set them up for failureThey teach classes on a death by power point, teachers don't closely monitor the classes, and you have students teaching other studentsI am a Marine Corps veteran and decided to go to this college in hopes to get a good education and a possible job opportunityWhen I did my internship I told them that I had thought about re-joining the military and did not want to seek employment anymore, the woman (*** ***) who was helping me with the job placement was more worried about their numbers and told me I could not do thatShe told me that if I turned down the job offer that that would negatively impact their numbers and that I should accept the job offer because I had already submitted on the paperwork that I wanted to get hired.” The programs taught at UEI College, including the Medical Assisting program, use a combination of lecture and laboratory instructional methodsA typical course in this program will combine lecture, discussion, applied demonstration, practical applications, directed self-study, website referencing, reading and writing assignments and classroom activitiesThe use of power-point presentations are only one of the instructional methods used to teach on a particular topicThese power-point presentations are intended to engage the student’s interest and are usually combined with a lecture and other research and/or reading assignmentsAt the end of a lecture, students are encouraged to ask questions and to have a discussion regarding the topics presented The classes at UEI College are in fact closely monitored by every instructor and other campus personnelStudent attendance is tracked throughout each class meeting and daily homework and assignments are graded along with all quizzes and examsIf a student’s attendance or academic performance falls below specific parameters, typically the student will meet with the instructor, the program chair or the Director of Education for academic advising. At UEI College, we realize that students learn in different waysA “Mentorship Program” was incorporated to help new students feel comfortable in the school environment where students are able to share knowledge and experiences with each otherStudents tend to feel more comfortable with other students who can understand and adapt to the curriculumThe students are not teaching each other, but are reinforcing or explaining in a different way a lesson that had been taughtThis is basically tutoring or peer-to-peer assistance to better understanding course objectives and outcomes. The campus Executive Director, *** ***, spoke with *** ***, Career Service Specialist and *** ***, the Director of Career Services and they both do not recall any conversation in relation to the allegation made by *** *** regarding placement rates, nor have they had similar conversations with any other studentLastly, *** *** alleges that she was told that she could not choose to not seek employment after graduationIn other words, she thought that the school wanted her to work in the field in which she was trained which is typically true for all students but not in this case. The Executive Director, *** *** spoke with *** *** and she does not recall any conversation regarding *** ***’s re-enlisting into the military and would not prevent any student from making this decisionWe are proud of our veterans and would support any choice they would make about school or their career. “Secondly, they over ran my benefits with the VA which I did not know about and I had to repay that backFinally, on February 16, I received a letter stating they were taking me to collectionsI did not get any kind of notice before this and mind you I had all my mail forwarded, this took me completely by surpriseI spoke with *** *** and she said she would take care of it and nothing so I have called them continuously and left several voicemails and nothingFinally I went and spoke with *** and she said she would route it up, although I do not believe her because she had initially told me thatSo I would like to have his issue resolved and make sure all my fellow veterans do not waste their money and GI bill like I did.” *** ***’s account was sent to a collections agency by our corporate office in Irvine, California on February 7, and a collections letter was sent to *** *** from the agency dated February 10, *** *** did contact Ms*** ***, a Senior Student Finance Advisor at the campus regarding this collections letterMsEsguerra then contacted the appropriate corporate collections personnel who then contacted the collections agency on March 1, to recall this student’s account and stop the collections processThis collection effort has been resolved and will have no effect on *** ***’s credit historyWe are providing *** *** a letter stating that the collections process has been resolved(See Exhibit 1) On March 8, 2017, we contacted *** *** and instructed her not to pay the balance due on the collections notice and that we will be sending her a letter that the collections process has been resolved and that she does not owe a balance to UEI CollegesWe apologize to *** *** for any inconvenience this may have caused, we thank her for her service and wish her all the best in her future endeavors. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me with further questions or is you need assistance. Sincerely, *** *** Director of Compliance

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me, eventhough my over ran benefits was not addressed I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolvedI will never recommend this school to anyone and especially veterans because of the bad experiences and lack of ownership in their areas of neglect, thank you for resolving the issue

[redacted]   CASE ID: [redacted]   Dear Mr. [redacted],   Thank you for giving us an opportunity to respond to complaint #[redacted], ([redacted]), from the Revdex.com (“Revdex.com”) of San Diego, Orange and Imperial Counties.  [redacted] started the Business Office Administration (BOA) program at UEI College Chula Vista (“UEI”), California on August 25, 2014 and withdrew on February 11, 2015. Attached is a copy of the Proof of Graduation document dated August 18, 2014 that UEI received from Ms. [redacted] for enrollment purposes into the vocational program (See Exhibit 1). This document states: Award name - High School Diploma: High School Assistance Service Adult General Education Program completed on August 17, 2014.  Ms. [redacted] graduated from the West [redacted] College Preparatory School (CEEB: 054-094).  Their mailing address is:  [redacted] West [redacted] CA 90046. Their current phone number is (323) 822-7900. The attached document verifies Ms. [redacted]’s proof of high school graduation and no further documentation was required to meet UEI’s admissions requirements.  UEI has never had possession of her official high school diploma. Ms. [redacted]’s high school diploma is held by West [redacted] College Preparatory School, therefore, she must contact them directly to obtain an official copy. Essentially, this is the same guidance UEI previously provided to Ms. [redacted] via its response to the Revdex.com on January 19, 2016.  UEI trusts that providing this additional contact information will assist Ms. [redacted] with her studies at [redacted].     Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.  Please do not hesitate to contact me with further questions or if further assistance is needed. Sincerely, [redacted] Director of Compliance

CASE ID: [redacted] Thank you for giving us an opportunity to respond to complaint #[redacted] from [redacted], from Revdex.com of San Diego, Orange and Imperial counties. This letter is in response to the consumer complaint the Revdex.com received from: [redacted], a Medical...

Billing and Insurance Coding (MBIC) student at the Gardena Campus of UEI College. Upon receipt of the complaint, an information gathering process was conducted to review the issues and determine the merits and facts of the complaints. [redacted] graduated from UEI College and is being denied her diploma because she has not paid her student loans. [redacted]’s diploma is being held due to her defaulting on her loan with Universal Guardian in the amount of $12,512.00. According to the Enrollment Agreement listed under “General Terms,” #9. “The Diploma will be issued after the completion of the entire program and all tuition and fees are paid in full.”  This enrollment agreement was electronically signed by [redacted] on 10/13/2014. However, withholding the diploma has never been issue when placing our grads, as we have made available to the employer, a copy of the diploma, (per the request of the student.) Student did not receive the proper classroom training. There were 21 students in [redacted]’s class.  The GPA in the class ranged from 3.13%-4.0%.  Of the 21 students that were in her class, 16 completed and graduated, giving the class a 76.19% completion rate. The 5 students that did not complete were dismissed for either having academic challenges or high absenteeism.  Student can’t get help from the Career Services Department to find a job. Noted in the Enrollment Agreement listed under “General Terms,” #2. “Placement assistance will be provided. However, no school can ethically promise or guarantee employment to any student or graduate”. We do provide placement assistance to our graduates. Of the 16 students who graduated from [redacted]’s class, 13 of them were placed, giving the class an 81.25% placement rate; 9 of the graduates were placed on externship resulting in a 56.25% externship to hire ratio.     [redacted] was first placed at an extern to hire site called Napa Center, she started there in June of 2015.  After a couple of weeks, Nicole Kelly received a call from the Napa Center, informing her that [redacted] was going to be released from the site because of her performance in general billing and office skills. We immediately scheduled a meeting with [redacted] on 6/22/15 at 10:30 to discuss finding another extern site.  [redacted] texted us saying she would be there at 11:30, by 11:50, she had not yet arrived. We found out later that [redacted] was in Victorville the day of her appointment and could not keep her appointment with career services as she had previously agreed to.  For her second extern site, [redacted] requested a dental pediatric office to do billing.  A couple days later, [redacted] was placed at another extern to hire site called, [redacted] (on 6/24/15). And with only 9 hours left before completing, [redacted] was released from her site, [redacted], due to her unfriendly attitude towards others.     A third extern site, [redacted] Orthopedic Medical Group (not extern to hire) was given to [redacted] so she could complete her remaining hours, which she did, at the end of July.    On August 25, 2015, [redacted] was sent on a “work” interview with Dr. [redacted], from [redacted].  We called and spoke with the employer to find out how [redacted] was doing, he said “she needs to pick up the pace because she works very slowly.”  But said he would give her a chance until the end of the day and possibly another chance tomorrow.   Dr. [redacted] ended up hiring [redacted] that day as a biller, 2 days a week, 4 hours a day. A few weeks later 9/16/15, we contacted [redacted] to let her know that Dr. [redacted] wanted her to give her more hours and work every day, with one day having to work in the Van Nuys office. [redacted] responded to this by stating: “not when they go to the Van Nuys office because it’s too far”.  Shortly thereafter [redacted] stopped working for Dr. [redacted], at some point during her employment she never returned to work.    Our Career Services Department will reach out to [redacted] to get her back in the office for additional support, guidance and assistance with finding employment.  At UEI, we are always here for our students and graduates and our goal is to see them obtain their dream of working in the field that they have been trained for.  We are more than willing to work with Christine [redacted] and she may contact the Campus Executive Director at the Gardena campus at (424) 246-[redacted].   Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter, please contact us anytime if you have questions or need further assistance

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I have asked the school numerous times for a copy of my high school diploma, I go to [redacted] and without this verification has cost me financial aid and not being able to continue school until I have it. I need to be compensated of paying out of pocket for my classes and I need the diploma sent to my current school so I can continue
Regards,
[redacted]
