the concerns have been noted and we are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused the customerA check has been sent our for the full amount of the invoice and again I would strongly suggest to this customer to get a 3rd opinion form a reputable company that specializes in residential wiring that frequently does whole house safety inspectionsKent BBoy's Electric LLC

I am rejecting this response because:
I'm not happy that Boy's "technician" used scare tactics to try and frighten me into paying almost $30,for an unnecessary full house rewire He used the words "fire danger" multiple times, preying on the fact that I'm a woman with no knowledge about electricity which I freely admitted to him from the startHe then used what I said to try and sell additional services without actually doing anythingHe told me to turn off my central A/C and to unplug everything, he was trying that hard to convince me my house was in danger of burning downHe "calculated" the square footage of my house with a measuring tape, "rounding up" as he told meI pulled out my paperwork from my May refinance because he was saying I had a LOT more square footage than I actually doBut he insisted that my house was bigger than the appraiser calculatedSo now Boy's knows more about square feet, too? The Boy's "technician" showed zero interest in fixing the outletIt wasn't melting as he claimedThere was a loose wireThe subsequent electrician that I used has been in business for 32+ yearsLicensed bonded and insuredAs to the breaker box, it was installed in the mid-70's by the previous home owner when the foundation of the home was replacedThere IS a bright orange inspection sticker on the front which is pretty hard to missI then spoke with a Minneapolis Housing Inspector who explained the regulations on breaker boxes in bathrooms and HE said my breaker box would pass inspectionSo no, I don't accept Boy's explanation and I seriously doubt their integrityI want my money back because they didn't DO anything except frighten me

To Whom it may concernThis customer was exactly correct, they contacted our company to come out and did agree to the $travel charge to get an exact price (we do not give estimates we give an exact price)Our licensed background checked, professionally trained technician arrived in a truck
carrying over 20,parts to repair anything in their home and give an exact up front price for any service they wanted as promisedThe customer had outlets not working in their home so the first thing we need to do is figure out why they are not working, because wiring is concealed behind walls and ceilings we would need to run a diagnostic to find the problem (this can take several hours, we have even had it take days)This diagnostic was $the customer choose not to run the diagnostic but now knew how much the service would be to perform. So to recap we arrived in our promised time window, as promised we evaluated the home, age of wiring, size of circuit and gave an upfront price to proceedWe did everything exactly like the customer was explained to on the phoneWe will be refunding the $in good faith but I really do not know what else we could have done differently?Thank YouKent ***Boys Electric LLC

Our technician arrived at the home he was Hours late (the window if time was 11-1, we arrived at 2:30)Before we arrived the customer had talked to our office and we did apologize our technician was late and because of our on time guarantee we waived the $travel charge to come outWhen
we arrive at a home we do not have a “sales pitch” but we do show the home owner our price book to know how our prices work, our liability insurance certificate, our workers compensation insurance certificate, our Mn Dept of Labor and Industry electrical contractors license and our ratings (like Revdex.com)We feel these are not optional for the homeowner to “assume” all companies are in compliance and we feel it’s important to know how we come up with our prices. Our technician then talked to the homeowner about running a diagnostic on the circuit the outlet is connected toThe customer signed to go ahead with the diagnostic to find things: why the outlet is not working, is the entire circuit safe, what do we need to do to it keep working after the repair is complete on the item that was not working and how much will the repair cost to fixAfter running the diagnostic, the following items were foundThe insulation was starting to melt back from a very loose connection to the outlet; the wiring was installed fairly recently but was extremely illegal with multiple code violationsCode violations were as follows: was clearly never inspected, was obviously unsafe, was not GFCI protected, wires were not protected from damage in the cabinet, wires were just lying in the cabinet, wiring was illegally tapped off of existing wiring with open junction boxes with no covers, the wiring was also running a basement bedroom (illegal on a kitchen circuit)The customer would not let us in to look at that basement bedroom wiring and almost all of the wire used was too small for the circuit witch could have easily caused the melting insulationYes, we could not hand the light fixture because again the same illegal wiring existedThere was no box to hang the fixture so, even if we did do the work, the inspector probably would not have approved it because of the wiring we tied on toIf the inspector did pass it, our company then becomes responsible for touching that wiringThe electrical panel: It looks like it was installed 10-years ago with, again, too many violations to countMost importantly it was installed in a bathroom which hasn’t been legal for like years and had no inspection stickerTherefore, again, we know it was not done properlyOne option is to run a new circuit for the items the client wanted and thereby avoid touching the hazardous wiringHowever, the panel was totally full so we couldn’t even run a new circuit to any of the items This other “electrician” that was out, if he replaced the outlet in the kitchen either He/She didn’t do a diagnostic on the circuit so he/she didn’t know how illegal the wiring was or Wasn’t trained enough to know it was illegally done Or Knowingly repaired an illegal, not permitted, hazardous circuit in the home It is our company policy to never do something that will put the home owner, the technician, and our company in jeopardy just because someone else will band aid it for a cheaper priceA few other notes Customer stated as the beginning of the service call that her Ex-husband did all the wiring and she is concerned about itCustomer stated she knows she cannot sell the house with the wiring the way it is.Customer asked if we could give her a price to rewire the whole house While Boys Electric does want to give the best service possible we cannot do electrical work would put the Customers safety, technician’s liability and Companies liability at riskHaving said that I am not sure what else we could have done differently at this call if the customer wants to believe this other electricians opinion on her wiringBecause our company has a 100% satisfaction guarantee we will refund the total amount of $but I would STRONGLY suggest to this customer to get a 3rd opinion form a reputable company that specializes in residential wiring and frequently does whole house safety inspections
