Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: [redacted] , I will do my best to respond to [redacted] ***’s claims belowFirst, we stand by every word in our claim and have documentation to back it up 1) [redacted] did claim his truck broke down, but that wasn’t the reason why we lost faith in his ability to complete the workRather, it was that he poured the footing too short and refused to acknowledge his error, much less fix itWhile issues of showing up to the job site with wrong tools, arriving late, leaving early, not showing up, etcwere disconcerting, the final straw was when we found out that he failed to install the footing correctly 2) We DID contact the county to ask why it passed inspection if it wasn’t poured to the designed lengthTheir response was they are not chartered to address workmanship, so they were not required to measure the length of the footingThe county inspection office recommended we contact a licensed professional engineerThis is how we came into contact with the engineer we hiredFor [redacted] to discredit the engineer’s evaluation is to call to question his professional credentials as a Virginia licensed structural engineerWe argue that the statement “any engineer can find fault with another’s work” to be flippant and unprofessionalWe felt that after [redacted] refused to acknowledge the issue that we needed a professional third party to provide an assessment, as to eliminate any difference in “opinion” between [redacted] and usThe findings from the engineer are FACT and the idea that [redacted] continues to refuse to acknowledge this fact is a testament to his lack of professionalism and lack of legitimacy for his claim that all work is guaranteed (quote from his web site and craigslist advertisements) 3) While [redacted] has “been doing this for years and can pour with his eyes closed” he outright refused to review our plans and incorrectly measured multiple timesIn the end, he failed to follow the design and poured the footing wrong 4) Re: the $payment he refers to below – our claim details the discrepancies in [redacted] ***’s charges to us, but 1) all the items he lists in his response were items the he explicitly stated were paid for by our original deposit, not the $2,500, 2) no materials were delivered or used for our project after we paid the $2,and any materials he purchased for our job could have been returned upon cancellation of this contract, 3) we stated repeatedly that [redacted] could come get his tools and provide our refund (that he said he would provide), but he chose not toThis was his decision and any statement to the contrary is not true4) His statement that he had to buy new tools for another job is interesting considering he left his tools in our yard and the day we scheduled to have him pick up the tools was the same day that he was supposed to return to our house anywayWe even moved his tools to the front yard to make them easier to pick up, but he never showed upWe have no use for his dilapidated tools, but we will attempt to recoup part of our financial loss by selling them if he fails to refund our money 5) I don’t understand his statement re: us consulting a lawyer who told us we couldn’t hold onto his toolsWe did not consult a lawyerHe is the one who assumed our money was his money and that his tools were not accessibleWe would rather have our money back than to hang on to his junk 6) Anyone who operates a business in Virginia without a license is doing so illegally [redacted] hasn’t had a valid construction license in Virginia since [redacted] cashed our checks at a check cashing window at the rear of a liquor store in MDWe have photographic evidence and the address of this locationNone of the above are the actions of a professional or reputable business personWe regret ever engaging with [redacted] and we are frustrated that despite our efforts to amicably resolve this issue, [redacted] has refused and has resorted to name calling, generalizations, and blatant untruthsOur biggest concern is that no one else fall victim to his “business” practices [redacted] , 3/16/

[redacted] is not telling you the truth about what happen. She called me and said the basement had a small leak still I came out and access the problem and determine that the leak was coming from under her air condition unit I told he she needed to have the unit disconnected and I would waterproof the section of the basement where the unit is free of charge all she had to do was let me know the day the unit would be disconnected and we would be there to waterproof the section where the unit was disconnected and it could be reconnected the same day. [redacted] told me that she had a contractor during some work at her house and she would see if he could disconnect the unit this was on 8/11/14 I haven't heard from her since I still have the text on my phone I don't know how to send it to you but I can bring my phone to your office on K St if you need to see the text. This has been going on for a long time I went to there house for a appointment when she first told me about the leak and they were not at home she told me they went to the gym I have that text on my phone also. The problem is not on me I have tried to resolve this problem for a long time she is the one dragging her feet on this not me I am ready as soon as she gets the unit disconnected.

[redacted] never gave us a chance to finish the job we were suppose to pour concrete on the 7th it was raining you can't pourr concrete in the rain. then on Monday the 10th it was raining again  that was when I looked on the computer and saw he had took I complait out on me with you'al. [redacted]...

took the complaint out on the 7th the day it was raining we never left the job we couldn't pour concrete in the rain.after I saw the complaint I couldn't believe he did something that dirty. We work out there 4 hours digging out the pad plus I brought formsnd we form it it was ready to pour we just need some dry weather. I don't know why he fired us but I have a truck load of concrete and pea gravel sand to pour the pad. I am sick with Shingles every since this happen I contracted Shingles on the 14th and the supply place don't give refund on material after you leave the yard with it. If I can use the material I brought on another job I will refund him 600 dollars if I can't I am going to have to dump it I need my dump truck. I think he found someone to do the job cheaper that is the onley thing I can think of why he would do this after we dug the pad out and form it we did all the hard work when I started the job he was crying about money. I realy don't owe him nothing but if I can use the material I will refund him 600.00 dollars.Nathaniel B[redacted]

[redacted] I dispurte every word that the [redacted] has in his rejection complaint I was fired because my truck broke down and I needed two days to fix it . I don't care how many engineers they paid to make a assessment of the footing or how many degrees they have there was nothing wrong with the footings my degree is 53 years of on the job exp in installing footing all over the United States. [redacted] never gave me a chance to correct the footings if there was anything wrong because I check them and layed  them out for block walls two days before he fired me he was standing there why didn't he tell me there was something wrong then and how would he know if I didn't know and I have a trained eye for footings.  I Guarantee all my work all he had to do was tell me he wanted something changed or corrected and I would have been glad to do it free of charge. Plus I have General Liability Ins to cover such things it doesn't make sense what he did. I even helped him save money by showing him he was going about building wrong I don't know who he had to draw up those plans for a simple 24' X 24' garage but they drew them up to cost him a lot more money than he should have paid. The material I brought was on the back of my truck at the mechanic garage I had it towed to I told [redacted] that after he fired me I told him I would give him the balance he said he wanted 2500 dollars and I better not come get my tools until I bring it so I didn't go on his property I brought new ones to work on another job all my tools were at his house in his back yard.I even offered to come out and talk with him and this engineer he hired to try and resolve this I never got a response back from him. He did me wrong as anyone can be done. The only thing I did wrong was doing business with [redacted] the material I brought I dumped at the landfill because they were 10" blocks nobody builds a 24' X24' garage with 10" walls I couldn't use them on any jobs and I couldn't get a refund because we broke the bands on the cube of blocks loading them. My tools  were in good condition when I left them there they were just used because we work with them in concrete and masonry. I am not going to keep going back and forth with this with these people I did nothing wrong and I owe them nothing.

After cashing my check for 1250.00 at my bank. I called to verify when he would come and continue the job, the next words that followed were filth and insults which were uncalled for out of a 70+ year old con artist. for anyone looking for some hard evidences can contact me for further investigation. I feel obligated to stop his schemes from robbing innocent citizens. Revdex.com should remove his A+ status which I was also misled by when I made the decision to call him for service in the first place.

My name is Nathaniel B[redacted] Jr [redacted] told me in DEc. that she was still getting a little water inside of her basement I told her I would come out and look at it and see what the problem was.
I made a appointment to meet with them and she was not home she told me her and her husband...

went to the gym so I made another appointment and her husband was there I told him that the problem was where the water was coming in was where the air conditional is I told her that I would fix the water problem but she needed to have the air condition moved so we could waterproof that part of the basement wall.
I tried to help [redacted] with her water problems she said she had I little money and I gave her a very low price of 1800.00 I waterproof the entire basement wall  over to the air conditional and under the steps leading down to the basement
I thought we had solved the water problem. When she gets the air conditional moved I will waterproof where it was removed from and then they can set it back I told her I would try and water proof the area where the air conditional is last Thur but we went out and saw it was impossible to do it without moving it  as soon as she notifies me the air condition is moved we will fix the problem.

Don't hire this company! I had a horrible experience when I used it. I was completely dissatisfied with the workmanship and the job was not completed as contracted. The work done was abysmal. No joke, a friend asked me if it was one of my DIY projects. At the time, it was late evening with dim lighting. Still, he noticed the bad workmanship. I felt like an it having paid nearly $4,000 for this work.
One important thing to know is that this business is NOT licensed, in neither MD nor DC. For MD, the license number published in one of the craigslist ads has more digits than assigned by the state. You can verify the lack of a license with both principality online.
Upfront, Nathaniel (Nate) B[redacted] Jr, the owner, exhibited normal business etiquette. Don't be fooled--he became extremely rude and combative later. After I paid the deposit, my business dealings with him went downhill. Multiple delays occurred before he completed the job. For each delay, he provided some ridiculous excuse.
Yes, this company provided me the lowest bid, but didn't perform the job as agreed. Thus, I paid more money for the work done than other bids received. Worst, I will need to have the work redone eventually.
I would not recommend Boyce Masonry for any kind of work. The owner is rude and unprofessionally. Moreover, the work done was sub-par. I'm not alone in my experience; checkout this blog: https://stevekelton.wordpress.com/.

To answer your questions:
What
is the current status of the project area?  Remains untouched since
Boyce Masonry last touched it?  We
found a reputable contractor to correct the work that Boyce had performed and
have proceeded with the garage project.
We literally had an open hole with incorrect footers poured in our
backyard and a 10’ pile of dirt in the middle of the footers, so we couldn’t
leave it like that. The financial impact to our project has been extremely
stressful for our family, but we are near complete thanks to the new
masonry contractor. We have done the rest of construction ourselves.
Did
you ever present the engineer's report to the county for a change in their
inspection determination? No, it didn’t seem prudent to us to seek a fail
in inspection after the fact. The entire process was stressful due to the
interactions with [redacted], and also significantly delayed due to Boyce
Masonry, so we pressed forward with correcting the footers and
constructing the garage.
As an aside, a quick google search
by me yesterday yielded the following complaint on google reviews, so upsetting
to see this company continuing to do this type of thing:
-
Tuck pointing was reasonable and per contract requirements,
but contractor cannot be trusted with payments. Company received an extra check
via mail that they has promised to tear up upon payment in person. They
deposited both checks anyway and refused to return the mistakenly deposited
funds that was beyond the contract price by double. If you use them, be careful
with your payments to them.
Please let me know if you need anything further.
Thank you,

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
[redacted],
I will do my best to respond to [redacted]’s claims below. First, we stand by every word in our claim and have documentation to back it up.
1) [redacted] did claim his truck broke down, but that wasn’t the reason why we lost faith in his ability to complete the work. Rather, it was that he poured the footing too short and refused to acknowledge his error, much less fix it. While issues of showing up to the job site with wrong tools, arriving late, leaving early, not showing up, etc. were disconcerting, the final straw was when we found out that he failed to install the footing correctly.
2) We DID contact the county to ask why it passed inspection if it wasn’t poured to the designed length. Their response was they are not chartered to address workmanship, so they were not required to measure the length of the footing. The county inspection office recommended we contact a licensed professional engineer. This is how we came into contact with the engineer we hired. For [redacted] to discredit the engineer’s evaluation is to call to question his professional credentials as a Virginia licensed structural engineer. We argue that the statement “any engineer can find fault with another’s work” to be flippant and unprofessional. We felt that after [redacted] refused to acknowledge the issue that we needed a professional third party to provide an assessment, as to eliminate any difference in “opinion” between [redacted] and us. The findings from the engineer are FACT and the idea that [redacted] continues to refuse to acknowledge this fact is a testament to his lack of professionalism and lack of legitimacy for his claim that all work is guaranteed (quote from his web site and craigslist advertisements).
3) While [redacted] has “been doing this for 53 years and can pour with his eyes closed” he outright refused to review our plans and incorrectly measured multiple times. In the end, he failed to follow the design and poured the footing wrong.
4) Re: the $2500 payment he refers to below – our claim details the discrepancies in [redacted]’s charges to us, but 1) all the items he lists in his response were items the he explicitly stated were paid for by our original deposit, not the $2,500, 2) no materials were delivered or used for our project after we paid the $2,500 and any materials he purchased for our job could have been returned upon cancellation of this contract, 3) we stated repeatedly that [redacted] could come get his tools and provide our refund (that he said he would provide), but he chose not to. This was his decision and any statement to the contrary is not true. 4) His statement that he had to buy new tools for another job is interesting considering he left his tools in our yard and the day we scheduled to have him pick up the tools was the same day that he was supposed to return to our house anyway. We even moved his tools to the front yard to make them easier to pick up, but he never showed up. We have no use for his dilapidated tools, but we will attempt to recoup part of our financial loss by selling them if he fails to refund our money.
5) I don’t understand his statement re: us consulting a lawyer who told us we couldn’t hold onto his tools. We did not consult a lawyer. He is the one who assumed our money was his money and that his tools were not accessible. We would rather have our money back than to hang on to his junk.
6) Anyone who operates a business in Virginia without a license is doing so illegally. [redacted] hasn’t had a valid construction license in Virginia since 2008.
[redacted] cashed our checks at a check cashing window at the rear of a liquor store in MD. We have photographic evidence and the address of this location. None of the above are the actions of a professional or reputable business person. We regret ever engaging with [redacted] and we are frustrated that despite our efforts to amicably resolve this issue, [redacted] has refused and has resorted to name calling, generalizations, and blatant untruths. Our biggest concern is that no one else fall victim to his “business” practices.

 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
** please view document[redacted]
To Whom It May Concern:
I contacted the Revdex.com due to Mr. Boyce’s lack of
professionalism and multiple missed appointments. Currently, I am typing this
response as it is storming and water continues to leak into the basement. I am
including these texts to further my case.

·
I contacted Mr. Boyce in December to let him
know the water was STILL leaking into the basement after he ASSURED me I would
have no more issues with water. He told me if I ever had a leak, to give him a
call and he would stand by his work.
·
I set an appointment for him on 12/11/13. My
husband called to see where he was since he did NOT SHOW UP. Mr. Boyce then
told my husband he cancelled and said he would be out Friday at 8. ( see below text document)
In this text, I decided to text Mr. Boyce first to act as a
reminder that he was to stop by since he canceled with no notice the previous
time. I gave him my husband’s information.  ( See below document). Mr. Boyce text back to say he was CANCELING
AGAIN and twice in a row failed to inform us. We had to contact him to know he
wasn’t coming, as we took off twice in one week to wait for him.
After canceling twice the previous week Mr. Boyce made his
own time to come out on Saturday without confirming with us. On Saturday
morning (12/14/13), He said he would be at our house at 8am. After waiting
almost an hour for him with no call of text, I left for the gym. I do not take
my phone into the gym so I missed his text that said he would  be more than TWO HOURS LATE FOR THE JOB
AFTER CANCELING TWICE IN THE SAME WEEK WITH NO NOTICE. ( See document)
I then text Mr. Boyce letting him know that we waited for
him for close to an hour and heard nothing from him and we would need to set a
new date. He told us he would be out of town and he would schedule with us when
he came back in town. We never heard back from him until I contacted him
several months later due to our basement being flooded.
On April 4th 2014, I contacted Mr. Boyce again to
look at the leak. I took off work to meet him.  He was supposed to arrive at 10am. I had my husband call him
at 9:55am to check his location. He answered the phone bewildered not
remembering about our appointment. ONCE AGAIN HE CANCELLED WITHOUT ANY NOTICE.
At this point I contacted the Revdex.com because I was sick of going back and forward
with his unprofessionalism and failure to show up. I am not interested in doing
any more business with Mr. Boyce and would like a refund.  To add insult in injury, Mr. Boyce
finally came out to check our leak and said he would have to put additional
cement on our basement around our AC unit. HE NEVER TOLD US TO MOVE OUR AC UNIT
WHEN HE DID THE INITIAL WORK. I would have had no problem moving it if she
would have mentioned it. He then told my husband it would be $500 for him to
add cement. I called him back and let him know I would not be paying him any
additional money, and if he missed a area to waterproof the first time, he
needed to repair the work for free as promised. He told me to move the AC unit
and he would finish the work.
At this point, I am not interested in him touching anything
else . I would like a quick refund so I can call a professional to finish the
work. We have been flooded 2-3 times since he did the “waterproofing” and have
had damage. I am finished talking with him and would like the Revdex.com to facilitate
the refund.
After receiving the Revdex.com complaint Mr. Boyce began sending me
disgruntled text. ( see document)
We waited for Mr. Boyce to
come out to make repairs, not only did he not call us so we are to assume he
never came by, no repairs were made and the issue is still unresolved. The last
test shows he read by text and decided not to respond

To [redacted] 99% of the complant that [redacted] has posted with the Revdex.com is lies. Her husband fired me because my dump truck broke and I told him I needed 2 days to get it fixed the truck broke down on 10/7/14 the next day after we poured the footing that Arlington County Inspectors...

passed. Boyce Masonry notifield [redacted] that I wouldn't be at work for two days I needed time to get my truck fixed and we would be back on the job as soon as it was fixed and I told him we had plenty of time to complete the job by the 10/16/14. The next day he fired me telling me he had hired a independet engineer to look over the footing that Arlington County Inspectors had passed and the engineer he hired to go against the Arlington County Inspectors that have Engineer Degrees that passed the footing that they were wrong. If he thought there was something wrong why didn't he call Arlington County Inspectors to come and check them out for free why would he pay someone 500 when he could have gotten them to look at the footings for free. any engineer can fine fault with anybody as well as any contractor if someone is willing to pay me 500 I will fine something wrong but that doesn't mean it was not done correct Arlington County Inspectors said they were right and I say they were right I have been durning this for 53years I can dig footing and pour them to drawing spec. with my eyes closed. And the dummy said he paid someone 1661.00 to fix footings that had already passed Arlington County Inspection I don't blame the guy I would have took his money too.  Any contractor can go to any job and find something wrong especially if the dummy is going to pay me 1661.00  After Arlington County Inspectors have passed the footers.
As for the 2500 dollars I mtold [redacted] that I needed 2500 dollars to finished buying materialfor the job because I had used up the deposit on Jacsk Hammer and Compressor Renter, Backhoe Rental 8 yards of concrete, landfill fees and labor. He fired me the very next day because he was mad because I told him I needed 2 days off to get my dump truck fixed and I couldn't do anything without it when my truck broke down I had 700 dollars worth of material I had brought for the job out of the 2500 he gave me I told [redacted] that and that there was not anything wrong with the footingings. Even if there was something wrong which it was not because they would not have passed inspection I told [redacted] that I would be glad to come out and go over the footing with him and the enigeer and if there was anything wrong I would be glad to fix it. I never  responded back.
All he had to do was let me get my truck fixed and we would have finisded the foundation. He never gave me a chance. Why would anybody go and hire someone to say something is wrong when it is up to Arlington County to do the inspecting and pass everything without Arlington County Inspectors passing the footing he couldn't have moved forward with the foundation. In there complaint they never mention that the Footings passed Arlington County Inspection I wonder why.
I told [redacted] I was coming to get my tools he told me that I better not come out to his house without his 2500.00 I needed my tools I left all my tools out in his back yard in order to dump the concrete slab that we took up.I needed my tools to go to work on another job I told him that plus I had spent 700 dollares on material that was on the back of my dump truck that was in the shop I had a small job I was going to do since he fierd me for no reason but my truck broke down. I then told Greg I brought new tools and he told me the next day after I had purchased new tools that I could come and get the tools I think after he had talked to a lawye and the lawyer told him it was wrong to keep my tools. The balance of the 2500 was used to purchase new tools that I needed he had all my tools in his back yard.I don't owe him any money he can try and spin this all he want he did me wrongvery wrong.
In all my 53 years I have never been fired off a job or left a job unfinished he should be asshame of himself for this complaint.

Review: Mr. Boyce was paid to seal off a leak in my basement. I paid $1800 cash at the completion of the project to which he assured me I would never have a leak from that area of my basement again.

Shortly after, I began to experience small leaks from the same area. I called him to the house to make repairs in December. He cancelled three times with little to no notice. The 4th time he decided on a date without directly consulting my household and no one was home when he dropped by.

This morning he made an appointment to come by at 10am. My husband called him at 10 am and he had no recollection of making an appointment with me. He then said he was sick and could not come.

I am no longer interested in going back and forward with Mr. Boyce when my basement is consistently being damaged due to water leakage. I would like a refund for the work so I can hire a new company to finish the work.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund to hire a second company to water proof my basement,

Business

Response:

My name is Nathaniel B[redacted] Jr [redacted] told me in DEc. that she was still getting a little water inside of her basement I told her I would come out and look at it and see what the problem was.
