Good news, bad news. We had a small alarm service install and monitor our Santa Barbara home for a number of years, then they went out of business. We checked with other firms, had [redacted] (Mr. [redacted] in fact) come out to give us a proposal. They said they could take us over with no additional charges or extra installations, and we were happy with their service for several years. That was the good news.
Then the bad news. We sold our home and told the new owners how happy we had been with [redacted], and recommended that they continue the service. Then we called [redacted] to switch the billing, and received a very snippy and condescending letter sayinng that we did not cancel within the contractual time window, and therefore had to pay for the remainder of the year. Plus, they would not let the new homeowners pick up the service at the same rate. Needless to say, the new homeowners did not want to renew the service with a firm having such an attitude, I can't blame them. I wish I had read all the reviews on YELP before signing with them the first time!

Review: When I signed a 3-year contract with Draganchuk for a security system for my home, I was eager to give my business to a locally-owned company. I had no clue I'd be selling the house and moving to Northern California in December, 2013, less than a year after installing the system. I wrote a letter to Draganchuk letting them know the situation and I paid what I thought was a final invoice. Eight months after selling the house, I received a notice that my account would be sent to a collection agency if I didn't pay what I owed for the final 2 years of the contract, which comes to nearly $900. While I carefully read the contract while I was signing it, it was never explained to me that there is no recourse should I sell the house or need to cancel the service early. When I called to discuss this, I was told this type of clause is standard in all security system contracts, and that it is common practice to not have any means to cancel the contract before the end of the term. Apparently, I am not alone in finding this situation bad business at best and unethical in reality.Desired Settlement: I would like to negotiate a way to cancel this contract and not have to pay for service I am not receiving and will not receive at a residence I sold in December.
