Boyer Well Drilling Reviews (1)

Review: In July 2012 Boyer Well Drilling installed a well and pump on my property. My complaint is that Boyer did not use the same casing materials for the 470 foot well and that the casings were not sealed properly. Boyer used mismatched casings including galvanized, PVC and steel. Boyer was to weld all the joints of these casings together (to prevent seepage into the well.) This project took 3 weeks and 6 days, due to Boyer's inability to have the materials on hand. I kept a ledger of the days, times and hours worked. I believe Boyer Well Drilling used casings from other jobs to cover this one. Boyer Well Drilling would work 2 to 3 hrs. on the well, then leave for other sites. Sometimes it would be days before any contact, and I would have to contact Boyer to see what was going on. The end result was THAT NOT ALL WELDS WERE COMPLETED, iron and mud was pumped out of the well. I called several times to Boyer's and was told it was just iron water and that was not their fault. The foot valve at the top of the well failed immediately and Boyer came out, replaced valve and moved the pump to 300ft. level (hoping for the water to clear). I showed Boyer pieces of black plastic I found coming out of the well, he said he didn't know what that could be. I found out when the pumped was pulled due to failure it was the impeller in the pump. The pump Boyer installed in July/2012 failed completely on 5/14/14. I called Boyer on 5/15 at all phone numbers, Boyer did not return the calls till the evening of 5/16, after another contractor installed a new pump on the morning of 5/16/14. At this time we discovered that not all welds were completed. I installed a iron and mud filtration system at great expense to overcome Boyer Well Drilling's errors. I later learned that a neighbor had the same casing problems with Boyer Well Drilling and had the same results.Desired Settlement: I would like to have a new well installed correctly, but I would settle for a refund to cover the new pump installation of $1,667.00. And to cover the cost of the iron and mud filtrations system $2,000.00 I had to install to be able to safely drink my water. The total amount paid to Boyer for the well and pump installation was $10,575.00.

Business

Response:

In response to the complaint that your business has received about our company, Boyer Well Drilling, from Mr. [redacted], we would like to respond by:

1. The different types of casing used:

Yes, we did use different types of casing. They were all different sizes due to the size of the well.

The 1st size of casing we installed was 6.125" of PVC SDR 21, with 260' installed. Once we installed this size we drilled to 340' and hit broken and caving formation, where we lost circulation thus we had to install 105' of 5.250" black steel casing. After installing this size casing we then drilled to 420 feet, where we also encountered bad formation and loss of circulation. We installed 105' of 4" scheduled 40 galvanized threaded casing. The mix match casing is due to the adverse geology of the well. The liner casings had to be advanced with pressure which is why they are steel casing and not PVC.

2. The welding of casing.

The 6.125" PVC SDR 21 casing was glued and installed into the well.

The 5.250 Steel casing was welded completely as we do on all of our wells.

The 4" scheduled 40 galvanized threaded casing was threaded tightly together.

Each column of casing extends up into the previous strand of casing 15 to 20'

3. The complaint of using casing from other jobs.

Each type of casing that we installed was new and all of the casing installed is state approved.

4. The complaint of Iron water:

Iron water is very common in this area. Our company does not guarantee the quality of water for we cant determine what is beneath the ground.

5. As for the service call,

I was working out of town and got the message the very next day. I had my service man to return Mrs. [redacted] call, which she informed us that she had already had another contractor fix the well. We had no other communication with them after the call. We would have gladly fixed the problem had Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] given us the opportunity.

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

1. Boyer Well Drilling explanation of different types of casing used was a

canned response. The attention to the welling drilling at our site was not at

level as described in their response. We were told by [redacted] Boyer that they

didn't have all casing available and that the casing was back ordered. This was

the response to why the well drilling was sitting and not being worked and that

Boyer had several drillings going at one time.

2. We do not accept the explanation of welding the casings. I have

witnesses that were present and they will state that not all the casing

sections were completely sealed/welded/glued. If I elect to call in well

specialists to camera video all the well casing joints, I will be taking Boyer

Well Drilling to court.

3. Due to the length of time for the well drilling to be completed, and the

fact Boyer stated he couldn't get the casings, we believe that the casings were

new, but not marked for our well drilling project. That in fact were supplied

from other projects, since they used three different types of casing in course

of 4 weeks trying to finish the drilling of our well.

4. Iron water was not what was pumped at first, we had clear water. Three

days later the well starting pumping red mud. Boyer stated that a spring must

have broken into the well. That was his opinion and Boyer Well Drilling raised

the pump 60 feet. This had no effect. Since we had a new pump installed in May

2014 we confirmed that the casings are not all welded or glued or screwed

together. We surmised that the unsealed casings are causing the mud/rust

problem. When the well pump runs it sucks the water, thus pulls the mud/rust

thru the failed casing seals.

5. The reason we did not wait longer for Boyer Well Drilling to return our

call in May 2014, is because of the history of contacts I had when the well was

dug. Such as: It took up to 6 days and many calls before we had responses in

the past, we had to take the initiative to hound Boyer Well Drilling to give us

explanations. After the well was installed and the problems started to appear,

Boyer Well Drilling was not responsive to our calls until we had a failure of

a pit valve. Which they did fix and they never returned any calls after

that.

Business

Response:

In closing out this argument we would like to state:

A lot of people in Mr. [redacted]'s area have iron water.

The well we drilled for Mr. [redacted], was installed according to the guidelines of the state of VA.

All materials used were state approved.

We did not have a contract deadline.

The confirmation of the installation of the casing is strictly the opinion of the contractor Mr. [redacted] hired in May 2014.

Settlement:

We are sorry that Mr. [redacted] is unsatisfied with the job. We would be willing to offer Mr. [redacted] $1,000.00 for his trouble. The amount he has requested is excessive as we have not done anything wrong. However, if this is not acceptable please forward court documents to:

As [redacted] has now retired.

We have continually checked with the Sugar Grove Post Office. The check has not been received by me or the Post Office as of Sept 2, 2014. I would hope that Boyer Well Drilling would put a tracer on letter with the check to find out what's happened. I would hope that Boyer would reissue the check since it is lost. If by any chance the first check would show up, I would certainly return it. Please include my Post Office Box [redacted], Sugar Grove, VA 24375 in the future correspondence.
