Same thing happened to us. But I have seen this post before he got a second draw. He was told that he hadn't spent enough money to get a second draw. you could tell he was mad that was June 28th he hasn't been back, everything he done he had to do over and my husband had to show him how to do it. it was like we were paying him to do the job ourselves..
He has sent his brother to work and another man his brother fell off the ladder twice in one day they done about $2, 000 damage to a hardwood floors which I know no one's going to pay me for now. so he tells me that his brother has done cocaine all his life and drink hard liquor and has a weak heart so if this man is on disability why is he working here. please I hope everybody sees this I will tell it to Facebook I will tell it to God I will tell it to the devil everybody needs to know this man is sorry low-down no-good

Review: January 13, 2016

Complaint from [redacted] and [redacted]

vs

Bobby Pillow of B P J Construction LLC.

We hired BPJ to build a 40X60 garage on 12/20/14

Estimated start date:Feb. 1, 2015

Estimated finish date: April 1, 2015 Our building is still not finished and we are unable to get in touch with Mr. Pillow.

BPJ received the 1st draw of $13,600 on 1/15/15

BPJ received the 2nd draw of $13,600 on 1/29/15

Mr. Pillow asked for the 3rd draw early on 3/30/15 and said to make it $12,000 instead of $13,600 & he would take $4,000 off of the final payment if we paid this. We paid him but were never presented this in writing nor given an amended contract.

To date BPJ has completed the following:

Prep & dug footings

laid footings

built walls

installed trusses

covered walls & roof with OSB

hung sheetrock on an interior room, bathroom, & closet

Installed 1 fiberglass shower

We have had to hire & pay out of our pocket other contractors to:

pour concrete $7,152

install shingles & gutters $4,300

install vinyl siding, windows, doors $9,150

insulate walls $1,200

insulate ceiling $1,750

install garage doors $6,670

plumber $1,450

electrical & fixtures $1,500

painters $1,000

purchased vanity, toilet, hot water heater, molding, & had to install stacked rock to cover the 2 rows of cinder block that were left exposed in the bonus room where the sheetrock was supposed to go all the way to the floor

During all of this we have had rolls of wire stollen by people that Mr. Pillow had hired and it was not returned to us nor compensated for.

We have had to pay someone to fix all 4 garage door openings because Mr. Pillow build them too large for the size doors that we wanted.

The plumber that Mr. Pillow hired came and removed all of the faucets/fixtures that he purchased stating the Mr. Pillow wouldn’t pay him and he wasn’t going to finish the job until he got paid.

One of the insulation people hired by Mr. Pillow called us personally and threatened to take a lien out on our property if he was not paid, thus we paid him out of our pocket.

We had to contact the concrete company & finisher ourselves & set up the pour & pay for out of our pocket.

Mr. Pillow changed the finish date to July 2015 and we signed a copy but were never given a copy for our records.

Mr. Pillow sent 1 to 2 men out randomly to work on our garage. They would work for a few hours at a time and go home. One of the men told us that he wasn’t a sheetrock man but Bobby had sent him out here so he was “doing the best he can.” The sheetrock looks terrible. Mr. Pillow himself was rarely on our property at all.

We had to ask him to come back and install a 1X4 around a gap that was left between the ceiling and the wall. Not only because it looked terrible but because the insulation that we paid for was falling out.

There is an open hole in the sheetrock on the back of the shower that was left uncovered and pipes exposed that we are going to have to fix.

We also had a pool that was scheduled to be installed June 1 but had to be postponed until August because Mr. Pillow didn’t yet have the building under roof and there was no electricity run to the building that was needed for our pool installation.

We have been requesting to see the receipts from Mr. Pillow since August. His mailbox on his phone is usually full and we are unable to leave messages. We text Mr. Pillow and he does not respond. He has yet to provide us with receipts.

We started keeping record of our text messages to Mr. Pillow on June 11, 2015. Since then we have sent Mr. Pillow 44 text messages to which he has only responded 6 times. We met with our lawyer on July 26 and made Mr. Pillow aware of this, he had no response.

On Sept. 2, 2015 he said “we will be able to finish up the end of September, no problem.” We were pushing for the end of September because we were expecting the birth of our 2nd child in October and we wanted to be done with this fiasco. January 2016 and the building is still not finished.

Mr. Pillow responded to a text on December 29 and said that he had been on “medical leave and in a lot of pain” and that he would “send [redacted] out asap to finish.” Death, sickness, & injury have all been excuses used by Mr. Pillow over the past year.

After meeting with our lawyer we feel that it would only be a further waste of our money to pursue any legal action against Mr. Pillow but we are willing to go that route if need be. We have found out that he has filed bankruptcy at least once if not more than once and we’d hate to lose any more money than we already have. You cannot squeeze blood from a turnip.

We have spoken with multiple people during this whole construction saga who have also been treated this exact way by Mr. Pillow. This past year, dealing with Mr. Pillow has been no less than excruciating to say the least. The mental and monetary stress has been overwhelming. We feel that Mr. Pillow should have his contractor’s license revoked so that no one else in our community will get scammed out their money as we have.

We paid Mr. Pillow a total of $39,200 and all we have gotten are a lot of headaches and a sloppily built garage. Mr. Pillow on the other hand has purchased a new truck and had over a year of little to no work. In addition to the $39,200 that we paid Mr. Pillow we have had to spend over $40,000 out of our pocket to fix his mess and try to finish the job he was contracted to do.

We have tried to refinance our home so that we could get a better handle on all of the expense that we have incurred but this too was denied due to Mr. Pillow. The building permit that he purchased has clearly not been closed and the bank will not work with us until this is done.

Mr. Pillow’s sales pitch and written contract spoke of things like “marble top vanities and crown molding, all the way to final grading, sewing seed, and spreading straw.” What a joke. No one with his business morals should be allowed to work anywhere with anyone. He is inept, and untruthful. He is a scam.

Clearly we should have done more research before hiring this man. Especially since so many people in our area have now come forward with their own BPJ Construction stories just like ours. We are only able to find one other complaint about him on your website but we are hopeful that after hearing our story that he will never be able to do this to anyone again.

We feel that the lack of documented complaints are due to the fact that he preys on older clients and friends and acquaintances who do not either know how to get help or do not feel like it is even worth the trouble.

Thank you for your time and assistance in this matter. We look forward to a swift and just resolution.

[redacted] and [redacted]Desired Settlement: We feel that Mr. Pillow should not be allowed to have a VA contractor's license. We should also be provided all receipts for purchases made by Mr. Pillow on our garage and be reimbursed the overage that was paid to him including any charge for labor.

Review: Complaint also involves failure to complete contract agreement. I hired BPJ Construction for a bathroom remodel on May 22,2013. Estimated start date was the week of May 28,2013. Estimated completion date was 2 weeks per our written contract. Today is October 1,2013 and my bathroom is still not completed. This is the only shower that I have in my home. I have been walking to our garage every morning where we do have a shower, which has no insulation or heat. BPJ Construction worked long enough to receive 3 draws from me. The first was 2300.00 on May 22,2013 to start the job,the second was 2300.00 on May 30.2013.and the third was 1200.00 on June 7,2013. Since then has admitted to taking insurance jobs,a restaurant job and other types of jobs. He would show up at my house and work a couple of hours,or a couple of days and them maybe show up a week later and do the same all over again. During all of this time I have had numerous conversations with him about completing my job and he has assured me every time that he would get it done or there has been some kind of excuse whether it has been sickness, family or help and each time have I have been understanding, giving him every chance to get the job done. Prior to hiring BPJ, I had purchased everything needed for the remodel to include flooring, cabinet, counter top, faucets, shower fixtures and the only delay that I had was the shower pan which took 1 week, instead of the 3 days promised. All he has had to purchase is lumber, tile, grout and plumbing. The tile in the shower has not been completed, some of which has had to be taken down and redone. I do not have proper grout lines, tile is chipped and not cut correctly. I feel if he knew how to tile,it would have been done right the first time. I have called him numerous times over the past 3 weeks with no answer and his mailbox is full,so I can not leave a message. I believe that he has taken my money and has no intention of completing the job.Desired Settlement: BPJ Construction needs to be made responsible for this matter. Other contractors do not want to come in behind him and finish this job. I want my bathroom to be completed to my satisfaction or a refund of all money paid.

Response:

I am responding to the complaint ID#[redacted] that you received on 10/01/13.

This job has been a challenge due to working behind a previous contractor whom just covered up structural problems that should have been repaired major floor joist and sub floor problems in which I had to correct at my expense, which caused some delays and the customer was aware of this. We had to prime and paint walls 2 times due to the customer did not like the paint color that she picked out and purchased She decided she did not like the drywall behind the toilet walls x 3 She decided she wanted all 3 mini walls ceramic from floor to ceiling I purchased the extra ceramicst components and installed them at no extra charge as of yet. Prior to this 2 times the customer had messed up wet drywall that her 3 big dogs pushed her into wall Another instance she accidentially put her hands in the wet drywall. I corrected this at no extra charge to her. The cabinet base vanity that she special ordered had drawers in the middle her previous cabinet did not we had to reroute plumbing in the wall to make this work out that I have not billed her for any of the extras As of yet. She ordered a vanity countertop that was going to take appromitly 3 weeks to arrive. I ran the ceramic work as far as I could go at that time

I sent one of men out to work on bathroom in late Sept. customer informed him he could not work that day due to the countertop contractors would be working that day. My man had informed me that the customer was pulling off our masking tape off the edge lines of the ceramics ripping the paint off the walls and ruining our paint job. This is not acceptable and has upset me, and I am not responiable for any customer tampering with our work. The job is not complete I’ve worked enough on the job to receive 3 payments that we have earned, plus the extra materials & labor cost to me that I have not billed for, there is a remaining balance on the original contract once job is complete. I don’t think we will be able to satisfy her, due to her tampering with our work. I suggest she keep the balance and the extras not billed and find another contractor whom can have better luck satisfying her. I am sorry that it has come to this..

Respectfully

Response:

In response to the letter I received on 11-15-2013. After all the letters back and forth between the customer the Revdex.com and myself, I feel this is NOT acheving positive results for all concerned. Our energys would best be served on completing the bathroom, and resolving this matter once and for all.

After careful consideration, the customer and I need to put the past behind us and move forward toward completing the bathroom.

I propose to start the week of Dec. 2, 2013 work until completed, so that the customer will have full use of her bathroom before the holidays.

I will need to schedule a walk thru prior to Dec 2, 2013 for materials and work scope list, so that we can work effiently. Please let me know if this is acceptable as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Sincerely,

Bobby Pillow

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. .

Mr. Pillow walked off the job as of September 9th and would not respond to my phone calls and has left me with a mess. I took his advice from his first response and had another contractor look at what has been done. His conclusion was that all tile had to come down, due to the fact that it was not done properly. I will have to purchase more tile and possibly more durock to get my bathroom completed. I do not trust Mr. Pillow and he has only agreed to try and complete the bathroom now that DPOR is involved. He can refund money paid, since it will cost me that and more to complete the job.
