Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2016/02/09) */
The customer called us and described the problem with the vehicle said he heard a knocking and the oil pressure light is intermittently coming onWe suggested he get it towed to the shop not to drive it and he agreedWe told him if necessary
we would call a tow service and get it towed, he stated he had means of getting it hereThe next day the vehicle is drove to the shop and he says the trailer he was going to use was too smallWe offered to tow it to prevent anymore damage to the engine instead he drives it anywayUpon inspection of the vehicle we noticed that the oil was dark but fullThe engine did have a lot of noise in the lower end in the crankcase area that was very noticeableWe looked at the oil change sticker in the window and it stated that 5W-shell was put in on the last oil change when there was a sticker under the hood to put 10W-Pennzoil because that is what the manufactures specs call forIt should also be changed every miles which was also obvious was not done as stated by the service sticker and when compared to the odometer was miles over duethe miles for next service due was 45,mi and the odometer showed 48,miUpon further inspection we noticed that the oil filter, which had been on there a while, was way too smallThe factory oil filter is much longer and bigger in diameterWe showed this to the customer and stated that the warranty did not cover lack of maintenanceHe took the keys but left the vehicle on the lotHe called us a day or two after and asked how much it would cost to fix the engine and we told him that we wouldn't know exactly what was damaged until we got into itHe agreed to let us fix not under warrantyWe told him we were busy but would get it is as soon as we couldA week later we were getting close to getting it in he decided to get someone else to fix it for him and he got it towed to another shopWe feel that the amount he spent to fix the problem is on him since he did not maintain the engineThe job was initially done in April and May of when it showed up the engine had been hot, was leaking oil everywhere, running very poorThe coolant was low and so was the oil obviouslyWe disassembled the engine and sent it to the machine shop where it was discovered the heads were cracked and we had find another set, this took some time due to the age of the vehicle and casting # on the head not just anybody would have themWhen the engine was assembled we did put a new water pump on because the old one was leaking and the bearing in it was noisyWe also put motor mounts in due to the old ones were brokeWhen an engine is completely rebuilt, which this one was, there is new pistons, bearings, rings, oil pump and pickup tube, all gaskets and seals, camshaft and lifters, timing chain, etc installedThe machine work involved with this procedure is extensiveAll components (block, crankshaft, heads, connecting rods, etc) are inspected and replaced if neededThe customer was fully updated of what went on through the process and had agreed to the parts being replacedThe customer stated that the oil pump had failed and that we did not install a new oneThe oil pump was most definitely new, it is part of an engine kit when we get themThe oil pump had probably failed to the condition of the oilThe customer also states that the check engine light was on and thinks the oil pump was the issuethe check engine light was on due to a bad TPS sensor that on different occasions he refused to let us fix but did not have anything to do with the engine damageThe customer did agree to pay us to fix the vehicle againWe were very busy at the time but had intentions of working on itThe customer is the one that took it upon himself to get it towed to another shop for repairs and we do not feel we are responsible for the bill on the repairAttached to this statement I have pictures of that were taken upon inspection of vehicle
