Bradshaw Mountain Animal Hospital Reviews (7)

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the
business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this
proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference,
details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
My animal
was incorrectly diagnosed with a fatal disease. Having no confidence in their
treatment and test results, I have since had the kitten they claimed to have
Feline Leukemia tested 2 more times by another vet and both tests were
negative. This proves the care was inferior. I'm requesting reimbursement for
poor services that had to be duplicated by another facility.
Regards,

To whomever reads this complaint,This issue is simply a lack of understanding of the medical aspects of this case.  From the beginning and throughout the process these kittens were handled and treated completely under standards of practice.  “shot for ear mites rather than using standard...

ear drops”“a follow on treatment required 2 weeks later when the eggs hatch”Ear mites are a common problem for cats.  The shot that was given to the kittens was Ivermectin which is commonly used to treat ear mites.  In fact it is used in some of the ear dropsthat are prescribed.  This product is used at our clinic as it has approximately three week duration of action which covers the hatching of eggs that are not killed by any medication.  Occasionally a second injection is needed and would have been evaluated at the time of booster vaccinations.  Another reason we use an injectable form of medication is that most cats despise the daily treatment of medications in their ears that many of the drops require.  “one kitten was positive and we could retest in about a month or so”During our routine testing of these kittens one of the kittens did show a positive result for Feline Leukemia.  The test is designed to be very sensitive so it does not miss any positive kittens. This unfortunately does give occasional false positive results.   Because of this it is always recommended to retest the cat in 4-6 weeks to see if there is a persistent positive result.  A different confirmation test can also be run through a diagnostic lab to verify the presence of the virus.  This test is typically significantly more expensive to run than to retest.  These procedures are recommended by theAmerican Association of Feline Practitioners.“Dr. [redacted] could have offered to retest the kitten”The following day after this clients visit I spent a significant amount of time on the phone explaining all the aspects of the positive results for Feline Leukemia.  A retest was offered and also the diagnostic lab confirmation test.  “with no apology for the horrible care received and no reimbursement for their incompetent services”During my conversation with this, I did explain that the whole issue seemed to be a communication issue. I did also apologize for this issue at hand.  Appropriate follow up care was offered to the client and nothing else was heard from the client until a demand letter for refund was given.   I understand the emotional issues that the client experienced and her dissatisfaction of her kittens care.  However, medically, everything was done according to normal medical practice.  Communication and understanding did break down in this situation and apparently was not rectified through further communication with the client.  The choice to get a second opinion elsewhere and not follow up with the recommended care was that of the owner's and I feel was not my financial responsibility.   [redacted], DVM

At this time you are welcome to do whatever you have to do.  The client has an opinion and no medical or scientific data has or will likely change her mind about her position.  She is upset that I would not refund her money and that a test gave us a false negative.  I have investigated the process that was done and what was said to the owner and all protocols were followed and would meet any medical board standards. Please just make it known it is only the opinion of the owner and not the opinion of anyone with a knowledge of the testing done or the opinion of anyone with a veterinary medical background.  If any more information is needed please feel free to contact me.  Sincerely[redacted], DVM
