Review: Contract # 15631 contracted to perform 6 items. item #4 was not performed as contracted. Item # 4 Pull shingle-Flash and Install Ice and Water Shield and reshingle. This item was requested to prevent water leaks mentioned in items # 1,2,3 & 6 of contract. Service for item#4 was not performed as stated in signed contract. No flashing installed . Glue was used to prevent leakage. Glue worked for a temporary fix.....2 years later problems with lack of proper execution of item # 4 as contracted has led to the same issues needing to be addressed in "fixed" items of # 1,2,3 & 6. Item # 5 of contract was successfully completed to satisfaction. We recently had 5 inches of rain in 1.5 days which led to the first awareness of the deficiency of repair. Roof inspection shows lack of flashing installed.....only glue applied. While I have been appreciative of the 2 years of respite from leakage....I was quite disappointed with the lack of service received as contracted. I have contacted the business, via their own website, within the past 2 weeks, upon noticing the fail of their improper repair. No response has been received. Original contract gave a price of 2500.00. I called with notification I could not proceed at the listed price...and a counter offer was made with no change to the contract. If additional information is needed I will get contracted price from my financial institution.Desired Settlement: I want my roof valley fixed as contracted. I will deal with the needed repairs, in house( items 2,3,6 on contract) that have occurred since the initial" repair" took place.

RE: [redacted]

[redacted] Dear Ms. [redacted] In response to Claim #[redacted], on October 13, 2015 the "desired settlement" requested by Mrs. [redacted] was fulfilled and the following work was completed: 1. Removed valley shingles on cut side 2. Installed ice and water shield 3. Reinstalled shingles to match 4. Placed tar on underside of cut valley shingles so water can't run under them again Thank you, Dennis C. B[redacted]BRAENDEL SERVICES INC.

We chose Braendel because we thought a big company would be professional and we had a big job.Upon initial visit they were very nice & positive they could paint our 2 story deck and porch deck with no problem. Then when they came they painted the decks in the rain. You can just imagine the mess we had. My husband was very upset and called. They said they would fix it. Needless to say they sent the same person back to fix it that didn't know enough not to paint in the rain.. That didn't go well because my husband wouldn't let that guy near our deck. Eventually they sent someone that knew how to paint. So becareful who you choose to do your work. Not all of their workers know what they are doing! I will not have Braendel back to do anything for me and I tell everyone about the job they did for us.

Review: In 2009 Mr. Braendel gave me an estimate of $5000 to paint a combined kitchen great room area to include ceiling and 2 coats throughout. I found that cost to be exorbitant. He "reduced" this cost to $3500 defending the cost based on 3 painters for 3 full days. Two painters arrived to do the job. One seemed experienced. The other obviously needed a lot of direction. The job was finished in less than 3 days but a few repairs noted in the contract were not addressed. A few weeks later I reported these personally to Mr. Braendel. There was no follow up and I did not pursue the problem. I returned to Erie to be supportive to three immediate family members who were terminally ill. The paint job was not a priority although my wife and I were chronically distracted by the irregular, uneven, streaked appearance of the ceiling. We attributed it to the natural light prominent in the room. Recently we have had the freedom to closely inspect the ceiling problem. There are VERY wide areas where there is NO paint, very poor technique and obviously not 2 coats, accounting for the very unsatisfactory appearance. I called Braendel's for an inspection which was completed and Mr. Braendel denied that there were widespread defects in coverage. He did offer a re-paint job at a cost of $1300, which implies he certainly perceived a problem. This is unaffordable for me and outrageous considering that the job was so poorly done initially at a premium price. I contacted an independent painter for an estimate. On close inspection he confirmed that the job was very poorly executed. Further, he refused to take the job saying that we should complain again to Braendel. I did so by phone and received a letter saying that the job could not be done at NO COST, which I did not request! I responded that I would be happy to have them repaint at a reasonable and fair rate. I have not received a response. Unless there has been damage, roof leak, or poor maintenance a ceiling should not require repainting in 5 years.Desired Settlement: A generous discount should be applied once a reasonable, up close inspection is done. I offered this in my recent letter and have been apparently ignored. If Braendel's is unwilling to repaint at a fair price, a reasonable refund should be issued so that I can hire someone to get this job done. If there is little to no paint coverage throughout this ceiling now, there certainly was none at the time of the initial job. The defects are very prominent.

Response:

Dear [redacted],

In regards to the above job that was completed in August of 2009, we do not guarantee any interior painting for several reasons.

After I inspected the ceilings last year, there was no fault of ours why Mrs. [redacted] wanted a fresh coat.

I would like to know what she is willing to pay to have us repaint her ceiling. At that time, I will make my decision.

Thank you,

Consumer

Review: Braendel Services, Inc. was contracted for interior wall repairs, priming and painting walls, previously painted trim and doors and ceilings in nine different areas of our home. Complaints submitted to the company in writing include unprofessional (sloppy. splattered) painting with spots of wall surface not covered, doorway trim and wall areas apparently not taped-off as some are missing paint while some have slopped paint in the wrong color. Although 100% cover up is included in the contract, there is paint splattered throughout the house; on finished/lacquered natural wood trim and surfaces, wall fixtures, various personal items in different rooms, furniture and floor areas throughout the home. Paint peeling from bedroom/bathroom/closet doors and trim were first noted a week after the entire job was "completed" and is increasing in the severity and the number of areas it has been found. One window was painted shut. All nails and fixture/picture hangers were to be removed and the area patched before painting. Two large hangers above a living room mantel were not removed and were painted over. The contract also stated 100% clean up. Throughout the home , where nails were removed, they were left on the floors, stuck in carpet etc. Along with the nails were dust from sanding, plastic, tape and other debris left in every room. None of the workers ( 4 individuals performed the work but worked in different pairs for the duration of the job) brought in equipment or supplies for clean up (i.e. shop vac but accessed homeowners mini vac, broom and dustpan, and paper towels for their own use. There was no significant clean up. Repairs and [patching was to be sanded smoothed, primed and sealed, however those areas needing repair were quickly obvious to the naked eye and are becoming more so.Desired Settlement: Full or partial refund to have work properly redone at a time we choose to have most areas of our home in a state of repair.
