We have discussed this matter with EyeMed Provider Services and our legal counsel.  Both have confirmed that it is the patient’s responsibility to make us aware of any insurance benefits that they have available and if they would like Braintree Eye Associates to submit a claim on their behalf.  The patient continues to overlook his responsibility in this matter.It is unfortunate that he continues to deflect blame onto Braintree Eye Associates.  We have already gone above and beyond what we were obligated to provide this patient.At this point we have no choice but to ask them to find eye care elsewhere.  We will be sending the patient’s records to them and will be happy to recommend another optometrist to service them going forward.  We cannot offer the family anything further in regards to this matter.

We have received the complaint.  All patient complaints are taken seriously and we want to assure you that the problem brought to our attention is being addressed.  It is unfortunate that we could not come to an understanding directly with the patient in this matter. In regard to patient...

insurance coverage, it is solely the patient’s responsibility to make us aware of what coverages and/or benefits are available to them.  We never refused the family’s vision insurance.  It was their responsibility to notify us if they wanted to use a specific benefit. As a gesture of goodwill, we have refunded a portion of the fees to the family.  Braintree Eye Associates was under no obligation to refund these fees.  We felt sorry that the family missed out some of their insurance benefits.  Furthermore, Braintree Eye Associates cannot recoup these funds from the insurance company due to timely filing restrictions.  The patient purchased and received contact lenses from our office.  Disputing the charges with the credit card company after receiving the product may be considered theft and we kindly ask that release the payment before further action is required. We have already gone above and beyond our responsibility to this family.

I have phone records of [redacted] refusing my claims, specifically the 2017 fees! I called to inquire and once again they were denied. In addition, it is not considered theft especially as this was recommended by my credit card issuer. Until this is resolved, they will not be released. Not to mention, as an in network provider, there is a legal contract to where in network providers have to submit the claims. According the Massachusetts state legislature, EyeMed policies, and in network laws. There is no reason as to why those benefits were not applied if my $100 contact benefits were! Why was Braintree eye associates able to check my coverage for those fees but not the fitting? It doesn’t add up. This practice is a mess, and according to online reviews, I am not the first patient or family who has dealt with these horrible practices.
