Brakes for Less Reviews (%countItem)

Deceitful customer service practices concerning repairs about my car.
About a week before Thanksgiving my son took his 2008 Pontiac G6 to Brakes For Less. The car was making a knocking noise underneath the hood. Upon arrival he met a mechanic by the name of ***. *** assured my son that he would check it out and find the problem. A week had gone by and not a word from ***. The second week my son reached out to ***. During that time, *** advised my son that his car needed a new engine. A couple more weeks went by and no word from ***. My son went by the shop and *** said that he was working on finding an engine. Believing that *** was working to fix his car my son left the shop. The following week my son stopped by the shop again and this time noticed his battery was missing from his car. *** said that he removed the battery to keep it from going dead. As the weeks went by *** never reached out to my son. Now it has been a couple of months since the car was put into the shop. Discouraged and not knowing what to do my son follows up with *** again. This time to be told that they had tried eight different engines in the car, but none would work. On 5/14/19 my nephew and I went by the shop to speak with the manager concerning this matter. We ended up meeting with a guy named ***. *** told us that he owns the shop. *** admitted that he knew the car had been there for months but didn't know why. *** also told us that he had several similar complaints to ours. And *** also told us that his shop doesn't even do engines. Since my sons car has been there, it has been moved to an unsecured area, resulting in a broken window and stolen speakers. Also the keys have been lost while there and the battery can not be located as *** said he didn't know where either one is at. *** asked me and my nephew for a couple of days to locate these items and give us a call. It has been three days and no word from ***.

Desired Outcome

I would like my sons keys, his battery, his window and speakers replaced, and his car repaired.

On or about 1-1-2017 U was told by Mr. ***, the VP of Brakes for Less #48 that my vehicle had a leak in the high pressure line, which was replaced on 1-12-2017 but still my problem was not properly corrected. Therefore I was told the the power steering pump needed to be replaced, which was done on 7-12-2017, but this only made the problem much worse which Brakes for Less refused to properly correct.
Because Brakes for Less would not make the much needed repairs when they were much needed I was forced to have the repairs done by another Auto Repair Business.

Desired Outcome

I would like my money back for the repairs that were made by this other business. $750.00

Please note that we have just been made aware of this complaint with the Revdex.com. In answer to the complaint filed, on January 12, 2017, we replaced a power steering hose that had been leaking on the vehicle in question. On September 12th, 2017 we replaced the Power Steering Pump. We can't speak for what took place when the vehicle was brought back to Brakes for Less on August 2018, since we no longer owned the store. Looking at the estimates that were submitted, it looks like one of the pressure hoses had a leak and as with any hydraulic device if it is allowed to run low on fluid it will cause the pump to malfunction. Brakes For Less has never offered lifetime warranties on power steering pumps and we don't see any notation on the invoice stating that we were offering a lifetime warranty. Our standard warranty, except for brake pads is 6 months. We are sorry for the problems this customer has encountered, but unfortunately when you are dealing with a Fourteen Year Old car with 150,000 miles parts start to wear out and there is constant maintenance required.

As I've clearly stated within the Certified Letter, that was served on Brakes For Less, on 8/21/2018,I brought this vehicle to Brakes For Less because it had a small leak some were in the power steering. At which time Brakes For Less did tighten something up,but the problem only got much worse after they did this. Therefore I had to take the vehicle back, and was told that it needed a High Pressure Line, which they did replace. But however, this still did not properly repair the leak. Therefore I had to take this vehicle back again and was told that it needed a Power Steering Pump, which they did replace. But however this did not properly repair this vehicle, because it started to make a loud noise, which was immediately brought to Brakes For Less attention, right after the repair, before I left. But I was only told that it was nothing and would get better as I drove the vehicle. But however it only got much worse, requiring this vehicle to be brought back in every week, at which times they would work on this vehicle ,but still nothing that they did make it better. AI was told that they would properly repair it, and therefore I would bring in this vehicle every week, and was told that the parts had been ordered to make the much needed repairs. This was done many times, at which times I would leave this vehicle, only to return to find that no repairs had been made. Which only lead up to me serving Brakes For Less with the Certified Letter, after this vehicle had been there for about three weeks. After being told by Brakes For Less, to bring this vehicle in to make the repairs .Therefore a Life Time Warranty was not need nor even a six month warranty, because the problem was always as the record shows brought to Brakes For Less attention immediately, not days ,weeks or months later, which therefore deals more so with the professionalism of Brakes For Less, and not aa warranty, not how old this vehicle is, but if they had the professional know how and skills to make the needed repairs.

I took my car I wanna say about four months ago because my brakes locked up to brakes for less in Huntsville Alabama they charged me over 1400 bucks to fix it when I got the car back five mins in it locked up again they towed it back and did more work so it took 4 months to get my car back since then it has done the same thing I took it for three times nearly killing me on the road I really need a solution because this is beyond ridiculous some on specializes in brakes having this much trouble and not to mention I don't have money like that to keep spending on something that I paid for to be fixed.

Desired Outcome

Repair brakes.

Mr *** called our Huntsville store on about March 5th to advise he was having car problems. He currently lives in Decatur and we offered to service his vehicle in Decatur. Upon inspection, we determined the master cylinder was not functioning properly. We ordered a replacement unit, and installed it at no cost to him. He picked his car up approximately a week later, and everything is functioning as designed at this time.

Because it definitely took longer than what they are saying me living in Decatur has nothing to do with anything my car messed up in Huntsville, it took four months to get it fixed not to mention they broke my window and didn't tell me I had to find from glass all inside my car this is all from the Huntsville ala shop!

Took PT Cruiser in for key ignition repair car was there for over a month. they put wrong parts on car. Requested upfront $475 before they could get
$475 paid then they said it needed to go to dealership to finish programming. car was towed to *** Asked *** at brakes for less who will pay for the cost at Landers he said that they will bottom line they never fixed the car refused to give owner information refused to give us locksmith information and found out the $475 was their price they put two different programming pieces in which the dealership said we should get money back from them. They didn't do anything to vehicle

Desired Outcome

Refund $475. We had to pay 1,105 to *** to fix the mess they made in addition to having to take cabs to work and find rides for child to get to school. They lied their web page says 100% satisfaction. refund was refused and told to get the *** out of his office. They are frauds they do not possess high tech equipment required to reprogram key ignition. Also they were not qualified to fix the vehicle and should have said so.

Mr. had his car towed into our shop after he had broken it trying to start it after he lost his keys. He told us that he needed a new ignition switch, which we can fix, but upon investigating, we discovered that he had really broken the steering column. We told Mr. that we could replace the steering column, but that we could not program the key because we do not have the equipment to program keys and computers. Mr. agreed and brought us a steering column he acquired out of a junkyard. We could not use this one because it had a broken clock spring. Mr. then brought us another steering column. The next one was correct, and it had lock cylinder and key. We put the part on the vehicle as requested. Again, we told Mr. that we could not program the key because we did not have the equipment to do so and that it would need to go to the dealership or have a locksmith program it. At Mr. request, we called a locksmith to program the key, but the locksmith could not fully program it. The ignition computer module would not program to the vehicle so we informed Mr. that it would need to go to *** to finish being programmed.
At this point, Mr.' mother came into our shop and proceeded to scream and curse at our manager in front of customers and other employees. Our manager calmly asked her to stop cursing at him and when she refused to stop, he asked her to leave as this type of behavior is not tolerated in our place of business. We do not condone verbal abuse of our customers and expect the same courteous treatment from them.
We did the work requested of us and we do not warranty customer provided parts. I am truly sorry for any inconvenience Mr. experienced, but we are not responsible for how long it took him to provide parts or for what *** charged or the work they performed. Based on this, at this time, we are not going to give Mr. a refund.

Mr. should have received a detailed written receipt at the time of the service. If he did not, we are more than happy to provide another written description of any and all work performed by our company as well as the locksmith. However, we are also requesting a written evaluation from *** detailing what work they did on the customers vehicle which to date we have not received.

Customer Response • Jun 07, 2019

where is *** fee is his name on the receipt? what exactly did he provide where is that located? Does *** business need to added to the complaint? Is his business affiliated with yours? if he provided service why wasn't he listed and services & fee listed? I am understanding that *** provided a service not listed therefore you are accusing them of the basis of the complaint. I will continue to rebuttal until justice is served!

there was no detailed receipt provided by *** for less and when requested was declined. if you provided detailed receipt it should be in your records and no problem to providing a copy. once they provide what was done and the locksmiths info. I'll gladly provide you with the details of *** job. let's go to court you provide yours and I'll gladly provide mine and subpoena *** technician.

*** also used parts from two different steering columns which did not work prior to towing to ***. Please compare what *** did to what *** done.

I took my car to brakes for less for an oil change and tune up. The called back and said I needed a fuel injection cleaner. I dropped it off at 8:30 AM and they told me it would be ready at 10:30.
I came back at 11 and they were not finished. They said they had got the wrong parts. At 12:30 they said they had forgot I was there and they were short on mechanics. At 1;30 I paid my bill and picked up the car. They charged me 3.5 hours rather than 2. I checked my car when I got home and found they had not done work I had requested. My oil was still dirty and still had the same oil filter. I came back and waited another hour for the oil to be changed. They charged me too much and the car did not run better after the "tune up". Based on the oil change I wonder if they actually did any tune up and if they are even qualified to work on my Volovo.

Brakes for Less Response • Jun 28, 2018

Mr *** came in and asked us to perform an oil change, injection cleaning, and tuneup. We quoted him a price before we performed the work. Mr *** agreed to have the work done.

Admittedly, there was a miscommunication between the manager and mechanic regarding the oil change and we apologized, performed the oil change, and offered a store credit for his inconvenience, which he declined.

We appreciate Mr *** and his business
