Review: Answering their advertisement for a free 21-day trial of a pair of ReSound LiNX hearing aids, I made an appointment to see [redacted], Doctor of Audiology, at Brandywine Hearing Center, Wilmington, DE, on April 22, 2014. He checked out my hearing in both ears and after an interview with me about my hearing needs he arranged to order a pair of hearing aids for me to try out. ---

On Tuesday, May 15, 2014 I visited their office and was fitted with a pair identified as “61 Model” (type SY312e and SY312). I received scant instructions on how to fit them into my ears and to place the main part on top of the ears. I had difficulties in placing the hearing aids in and on the ears; I have been using an in-the-ear hearing aid for years without trouble, but never had an on-the-ear with tube into the ear gadget. ---

For the whole rest of the day I wore both and noted an enormous improvement in my hearing. In fact, all the traffic noises, the keyboard clicking and the newspaper rattling noises overwhelmed me so much that I called their office to ask for a special appointment to readjust the volume downward a bit. The secretary said my reaction was typical and I should wait for a few days to get accustomed with the new noises. ---

On the following day, May 16, wanting to make sure that there was no wax in my ear canals, I checked with Q-tips and found that there was actually some fresh blood in each ear. I did not wear the hearing pieces on that day, nor on the third (5/17), because the Q-tips still showed little blood stains. ---

By the 4th day, Sunday, 5/18/14, the Q-tips did not show any blood and I put the ear pieces in to continue testing them, since my wife and I were to attend a concert in a chapel. Before leaving home I felt too warm and pulled the light sweater over my head and placed it on the back seat. For the concert. we were sitting in the front row and I was not aware of too much or too little hearing. On leaving the church and entering the car, I checked for the correct placement of my aids and noticed that both of them were missing. An intensive search of the car revealed one of the two found inside of a sweater sleeve. The second one was nowhere to be found inside the car, on the walkway to and from, and in the church itself. ---

I called for an appointment with Dr. Michelli and saw him on 5/20 to tell him about the loss. He emphasized that there is no loss insurance and that it was all my responsibility. I would have to pay for the lost piece, not only the $2550, but the suggested factory price of ½ of $5450 = $2725, according to the agreement I signed on 5/15/14. ---

In the meantime I wore the one hearing aid I still had, and inspected it and the fitting over my ear. I checked the length of the fine tube from the battery compartment to the receiver and measured 4.3 cm, most likely not long enough. When inserted completely into my ear canal that small tubing pulled the main compartment forward, so that it could not sit firmly on top of the ears. It is my opinion that the receiver tube is too short for my ears and does not allow a good safe placement as intended. I should not be required to pay for inadequate equipment or wrong size that cannot operate securely during regular use.Desired Settlement: An admission by [redacted], that he gave insufficient warnings on the ease of losing these hearing aids, especially since I was only used to in-the ear hearing aids.

An admission by [redacted] that the hearing aids provided were not perfectly fitted for my (large) ears.
