Brass Monkey Air Conditioninig & Heating, Inc.

My husband and I live in a rental in Florida. The AC unit stopped working and we had the property managers call someone to come look at it. It is only April and the days have been 90 degrees, which put our internal thermostat at 81 to 87 degrees, without AC. They sent Brass Monkey, who came out within a few hours. The two men who arrived were nice, polite, and well-mannered. They seemed easy going and personable. After they had finished investigating the problem, one man came inside and said that he had "really bad news, and we have a big problem". The problem was that the unit needed a new compressor and that both units (one in garage, one outside) were very old and needed to be replaced within the year to avoid continuous problems. I did tell them that I thought the unit was 10 years old, maybe older, but I do not know, because I do not own the home. They also said that they could not complete the work for another three days. I was concerned about the timeline, because I am a full-time student and stay at home mother. My children and I stay at home all day long, and the heat had been pretty miserable without any AC. I asked the property managers to call someone else to see if they could get it fixed sooner than 3 days. They called a different company. The man came out and replaced a small part, and the AC works perfectly now. He also said that the unit is only 7 years old and does not need to be replaced. I cannot believe that Brass Monkey was willing to overcharge by $2000, and make my children and I suffer through the heat just to make a buck. I have never experienced such distinct dishonesty in my entire life. They lied about everything! They said the unit was really old, which it is not and there is a date on the unit (I did not know until the second guy came). They said it needed a new compressor, which it did not. They also said the whole unit would need to be replaced, which it does not. I will make sure to spread the word about how dishonest these people were so they do not continue to rob others.
